I am hugely disappointed, mostly because I had high expectations.
This series seem to lack any strong characters (except for maybe the CO) - and the lack of focus in the narrative makes it seem like they didn't really know what to do with it.
One of the reasons why BoB was so good was because we got to know the main characters to a point where they actually were real. A lot of it due to focusing on the characters in training camp in the beginning, seeing them grow into paratroopers.
I can honestly say that I barely can tell the characters apart here, there is no one that I really empathize with, and the way that the enemy is depicted; is that of unintelligent drones that run mindlessly into machine gun fire, and make the odds seem very tipped in the favour of the americans, in spite of getting bombed every day, not having any supply lines due to lack of naval support, etc. - not even the jungle seems very harmful here, thus far in the series.
All in all, it's pretty average story wise, whilst retaining the authenticity in the combat scenes and overall quality in costumes, effects and atmosphere.
It's hard to live up to the success of Band of Brothers, but I expected more from the same team.

it angers me that i have to agree with this
bob was very character based, which is an odd thing to say when there's like twenty characters in the mix, but you got to know and love them all quick
i barely know any of these guys here
it's very thin
there's lots of character scenes but none really stand out.. i don't know if it's direction or acting or what
still, the action is up there on the same level so i'll end up watching this for just that

I agree with fisk as well, there's little characterization in play. It's more like a war show without characters. I don't feel like the 'interviews' at the start of each episode has the same impact as the ones in BoB - and I seem to remember BoB had some 'interviews' at the end of each episode as well?
The main character is the only one I slightly care about, the rest I can hardly separate from each others. It's a big mess. And the japanese are background statists, that's all.
While I agree the battle scenes are realistic, most of them have so far taken place in pitch black. Very hard to get a feeling for what is actually happening and what the actors are expressing.
It's an ok entertaining show, but it ain't close to BoB.

I still hope that it has some nice twists to it in the future, so far it is entertaining indeed and well made but it's true that I couldn't give a shit about any of the characters.

pfft first episode was shit , 2nd episode was shit , 3rd episode was still shit.
you act as if its been good upto this episode.
im not even the only one of the opinion that its shit and doesnt live upto the hype and the budget lol hope they spent the majority of it after these episodes or it was a waste

I find this sequel to BoB amazing.
If it was for the fact they were covering the american-japanese conflict, it would be a 10/10
Now its 9.5/10
