You don't delete that file when you use Razors crack.

Well, I had exactly the same thing. When using Razors crack, if you delete that file, crash halfway through the logo video. If I don't delete it, I don't see the video(black screen) but the audio interrupts at exactly the same spot where CTD happened before, but instead of crashing it skips to the main menu...but i don't see it - still black screen.
Now if I use skidrows crack and delete the file - it works fine... weird

Might not CTD because of it but was PhysX updated?
(The Install folder, also has DX Feb 2010 redist and VC++ 2005 SP1 ATL)

Installed everything there was in the Install folder... still no go with Razor. May be you need to reinstall PhysX like someone here suggested.

It's a redist, doesn't matter if you use ATI or NVIDIA, it installs core runtime files that are needed for PhysX driven titles, still you already installed it so it's something else causing the problem then.
(Drivers? I use a beta 10.3 variant that's dated February 10th 2010 at 8.71., there's a older February 5th leak as well with the driver number 8.71.3)

It's quite good so far but I'm not very far, right after that image I took (Previous page.) the group got swarmed by a large pack of mutants, playing on the "hard" difficulty level so I die in two or three hits and ammo is very scarce.

okay, got it to work.
Avoiding all the crashes and errors, here's how it was: Used razor files, except for the .exe, which was Skidrow's. Moved the content file. It's the only way it runs for me right now.

20 - 30 FPS isn't really "smooth" but I kept it anyhow, I'm a bit stubborn, heh. and yeah I could only adjust presets short of tweaking part of the user.cfg file directly.
(Motion blur helps, uses that semi-strange blur like in Cryostasis or Lost Planet though where things get quite fuzzy.)
EDIT: Older quad-core CPU (6850 got it rather cheapt though.) and a 4890-VaporX 2GB GPU with 4GB of RAM. (Dedicated soundcard as well but it doesn't affect performance much, XonarD2X)
EDIT: ATI would need to create a profile for the game though, 10.4 I guess or a hotfix for 10.3 at the very least a hotfix for Crossfire after 10.3 should be created as they now have that CF application and can create such profiles separately from driver releases, doesn't help single card users much though.
(5800 and similar might work fine due to raw speed however but could probably be even faster.)

Performance is somewhat inconsistent. Running on E6750 @ 3.2, Ati 5870, 1080p No AA 16xAF Very High, DX11.
I tried running with 4xAA at first, seemed ok for a while until I ran in to the first encounter... Fps dropped to 10-15. turning off AA didn't help much - stayed somewhere in the lower 20s.
But right after that it went OK, even in the next bigger encounter. Fps was at 30-60.
Interestingly, the game feels smooth even at a very very low FPS, it just slows down. It's still unplayable, but it doesn't feel like low FPS in other games. Even 30 feels quite smooth.

Why are some people and reviewers complaining about the shooting elements? Sure it's not CoD with endless of amunition everywhere and swarms of enemies to kill every second, imo that's a HUGE plus because that kind of gameplay bores me to tears.. It's like a scripted STALKER with a bit of Thief thrown in.. Not as good as STALKER of course, but a must play nonethess. Extremely atmospheric and awesome attention to detail. Looks great on "High" settings.

Using razor release completely, and the game still crashes after the intro logo. Proper my ass...
There was only one 'vcredist_x86.exe' file in the redist folder, installed it just in case, no change.
EDIT: noticed the missing installers in the instelled game folder. I'll try those.

Well the shooting part feels a bit weak in terms that you doesn't feel right in presentation. Well, actually it is probably a bit more realistic than your usual action movie firefight, but after the likes of BC2 and other similar shooters it sounds and looks a little downplayed.

The sound in BC2 is truly awesome, best i've heard probably! But i dont find anything wrong with the "feel" of the weapons so far, hardly something to complain about at least, its not even supposed to be like in CoD or whatever, it's supposed to be like STALKER etc..

This is the user.cfg you need to modify, for those who want to:
X:\Users\<usrname>\AppData\Local\4A Games\Metro 2033\user.cfg
