I was a little put off myself. Unfortunately, this isn't the only review that lists this as a con.

I have no doubts it'll be a solid game nevertheless, especially after some patching.

The "wimpy weapons" are probably meant to be like that, so i dont see how it could be a con, you can't have too powerful weapons or it wont be scary enough.. Its usually like that in those kind of games (cryostasis, prenumbra).

There is a difference between a real challenge and having to empty a clip just to take down enemies to superficially make the game longer.

Also, is there a chance that the reviewer didn't know that the regular ammo and the underground weapons are actually pretty shitty(as it's intended, they mentioned this in a couple of videos)?

Seems that our neighbours from the console arena are enjoing the game, and I particularly appreciated this part:

Quote:
this feels much more like a pc game than a console game, engrossing story, very nice engine with impressive lighting - looking great so far

re: Console version

You know I think this series works better in a tighter environment.
When I played Stalker I felt a little overwhelmed by the size of the world, Metro 2033 seems to amplify the strengths of the Stalker series while it's weaknesses dissolve.
So far I am enjoying the game much more than Stalker, it will be very interesting to see and play the pc version which in my mind can only perform better.

I think the sandbox feel is the series biggest strength, and i suspect, will think this is Metro's biggest weakness, its also supposed to be quite short Sad seems like a cool game nonetheless!

METRO 2033 is a sci-shooter set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world which
combines action, horror, and role-playing game elements.

An action-oriented combination of horror, survival, RPG, and shooting,
all based on a story by Russian author Dmitriy Glukhovskiy.

The whole world lies in ruins. Humanity is almost annihilated. Due to
the high-level of radiation cities became unsuitable for living. Humans
have yielded the supremacy on Earth to a new species. Creatures mutated
by radiation are more adapted to the changed world. There are only
clusters of humans left on the planet ... At least, that's what the ten
thousand survivors camped out in the various sections of the Moscow metro
must believe, since they have no evidence that they are not the last
ones alive. And now, even this way of life is being threatened by the
evolved evil from outside. As Artem, you set out from the first
invaded colony, fighting through a society of divided by desperate politics,
ideologies and economies to warn the rest and reach
the Polis stronghold before everything is destroyed.

It's a Steam game (As covered earlier in the thread.) this is just a sort of preload at most until it can be unpacked and even then it would perhaps need a actual crack to work and there might be missing files, still it's something.
(Have it pre-ordered so I'll just use Steam as a pre-load, still having this disc could potentially give access to the unencrypted files earlier.)
