I don't like this article......seems that if they tweak the response time and bump the graphics quality up a little.....it actually may fucking take off.....

So, I can play console games with this? Meh, still not worth it imo

Actually, it depends, now that I think about it, IF, I could buy this unit for cheaper then an xbox (own a ps3). And it actually works, I MIGHT consider buying it, becuase there is only two games I want to play on xbox, and thats Lost Odyssey, and Peace Walker

Err, so you're going to carry a mouse and keyboard around with your iPhone? This whole thing is silly, it's impressive, but I feel sorry for any investor that's wasting money on OnLive.

Piracy or not, Don't know about you guys, but I actually buy a game at full price now and then when a REALLY good game get's released (For me that would be Dragon Age, Mass Effect series and AvP series), but I am a pirate but nobody will convert me with shit like Onlive because when I buy a game (or a dvd) I wanna own it so I can put it on my shelf and play it 20 years later if I feel like it, or simply have it in my collection.

I'm already fed up with the way cable tv subscriptions work in my country (90% of the shows is shit while the pricing is pretty high) and I won't tolerate to be forced to subscribe to something similar like OnLive when I want to play some games.

In short, with subscriptions, companies got their customers by the balls as they justify their high pricing with crap explanations like "look at all the content you are getting" while shoveling Shitty Entertainment down our throats. And it's not like we have a legal alternative (when it comes to TV)

Honestly this will not sell as well as they're making out. PC gamers are an entirely different breed than console kids. We like to keep our saved games to OURSELVES to do with what we please. Not leave them on some remote server to get ddos'ed or hacked/stolen/corrupted. It seems on the surface of it that what they really want is to eventually charge you for server space for all of those saved games. And emulators? Yeah..imagine having to pay 25 cents to play Mame, Psx2, Pj64, etc. They want to do the same thing Ubisoft is doing..stream everything and then charge you later for "excessive" save game usage. Um, yeah..that'll work.

NO SALE.

I believe people with low end PC's MIGHT use it, but overall, I don't see the real need for this crap. When I buy a game I want to own the copy of it not watch it while playing it on a PC miles away.

This OnLive technology could be possible in the future, and is not the "end" of computer games, but the opposite. If piracy is completely avoided, games will be very cheap or free; so everybody will buy without complains. Anyway, rendering graphics in my computer looks more believable; just downloading/uploading some encrypted data, making piracy impossible <- this is the final goal anyway, no need of going beyond that point.

I'd use this, if it was only $15-$20 / month and no other charge, so instead of upgrading my PC all the fucking time I can get a month or two of this service occasionally, play the games I want and be done with it. I don't care about owning games.

Of course it would need to have no horrible lag, decent video quality and not eat all of my already limited bandwidth.

Actually you know what I probably wouldn't use it. Razz

i can't imagine how much it'll fail if it isn't like steam where you get to keep your game purchases.

paying for subscription fee as well as holding each game ransom by charging for it... just too brilliant.

People said the same about Xbox Live ($10 per month/$88 per year+ charges per game) and yet it still is successful

Uhh.. no. It's not the same thing at all, because if you buy a 360 game; it's YOURS FOREVER. If you suddenly stop paying the Gold fee for Live, you don't lose access to that game. You also don't pay a "rental" charge on top of your games either.

As for the price? It's £28 for 13 months. Not £58.

I highly doubt that mate. When Steam was approaching, one of the things they (Valve) were pimping, was the fact that games would be cheaper because the middlemen would be removed from the cycle. No need for CD/DVD factories, transport, storage, retail stores, so the prices will be lower.

But they arent. The prices are the same now as when there was no digital distribution.

OnLive is crap because of the subscription + fee per game. If you cancel your subscription and lose access to your games, will they return the money you spent on the games? I dont think so.

Worse, is that prices are actually considerably HIGHER on Steam than in retail outlets.

I can see the potential in this service but it won't take off with the terms they announced.
Simply put paying 15$ plus games and no assurance of maintaining the games if you cancel service is too much for anyone to accept. They should persist accounts so that anyone can resubscribe at any time. Games would have to be considerably cheap for anyone to be willing to invest in this

This is a true problem for cloud gaming and I think companies should really look careful to consumer concerns. Cloud gaming can lower piracy a lot but they need to have an acceptable policy.

Another issue with the pricing is that in 3 years you'll have wasted $540 in a gaming service. Not much more value than that. People are still getting value from their 3 or 4 year old console or PC.

Garbage

I'd rather...And call me a fucking idiot...go out and buy a game or HEY use Steam rather then have to pay $15 a month and buy the game...

Maybe next time I got to Blockbuster I'll sit down and explain how they can make lots more money, On top of charging customers the rental fee..Why not charge them FOR THE MOVIE! (which they have to return in a week) It is perfect and so convenient.
