There is actually a small cool off period after a certain amount of times you spot someone, where you are not allowed to use it, to avoid spotting spam.
With that said, I did in fact had issues where I couldn't spot when I clearly should have been able to. It is especially noticeable when the enemy is up close..at range it is forgivable.

It does happen though doesn't it?
Or can you only spot people from a certain distance?
Don't think so though as I've spotted dudes from far away loads.

I haven't even played the single player, but the multi will see a lot of action for a long time I'm sure. Sadly, you start with pretty shitty weapons though, so the game definitely rewards you for more time played. As you level and get newer unlocks, you are a at a serious advantage over those with the lowbie weapons. I'm only lvl 10, but picked up someone G36 LMG (I think that was the model) and I instantly noticed a huge advantage over any of the previous weapons I was using, getting a quck 7 kill streak while I had it. I've heard the M60 is total domination, but I've got a long ways to go still. Overall, this is the best military style multi I've played since COD4, easily outdoing MW2. |
Singleplayer is definitly worth a playthrough. Story is very solid from start to end and its quite entertaining to play (aka fun )

Pixieking wrote: | Also, question: How important is clan membership for multiplayer? My clan mostly plays CS:S and L4D, and I doubt I can convince them to buy BC2 anytime soon. Will that matter? |
BC2 is, in my opinion, very nice for competitive play (clan wars, 4vs4, 8vs8 kinda stuff). Especially Rush /squad rush is very team/competition oriented. And unlike mw2 (i checked numbers on esl page and its PATHETIC in terms of participents http://www.esl.eu/de/mw2/ ) im sure it will have a good number of people competing.
As with any FPS, pubs are usually low- early mid skill only anyway, unless you find one of those few elite servers (if you play/ed cs you know what i mean). but usually you'll just end up getting annoyed (i usually do, because of the freaking lack of progression of average skill level on Pubs. I mean seriously, i can take a break of 2 years and still end up 1st-3rd all the time on cs/css/bf42/2/q3 etc servers after hving played 2-3 rounds (and i only consider myself mid to low high skilled usually, far from really "pro" or "god" like). Anyway, if you like a challenge you WANT to play in a clan in competitions for sure.
Theescapist wrote: | Punk buster is such a shitty anti cheat programme.
They should use everything for online games as they do for team fortress 2.
They have it all sorted.
I'm still getting booted by punk buster.
And now it is saying I've been kicked by the administrator.
All i done was get in a heli, go to a far red base with another dude in the heli.
Smoked some enemy and then i get kicked?
Must be a punk buster error?
That or the admin is a total ass. |
admins cannot do pb kicks/ban. Only regular kick/bans.
fissesvin wrote: | BTW Sometimes my "engineer score" is going up sooo slowly. Can i only get it by repairing stuff? Some levels have few tanks to repair.

everything you do "on foot" will add to the class score (kills, defends, repairs, savior etc etc)

like i said above, if it has PB message in kick/ban, its NOT a admin behind it. Lots of people reported problems with PB not automaticly updating, check that on pb site (www.evenbalance.com) and sometimes (from experience) it can be a timeout error (fw blocking pb etc etc).

if an enemy is partially obscured by something (tree, rock, building etc) it doesn't always trigger the spot (keep in mind, server gets the message a few milliseconds (ping) later, so enemy may be hidden completly by then. Most of the time it works fine tho, so its not really a big issue IMO.

i never had issues with punkbuster, and i am very sure at the latest since MW2 no one will try to claim VAC is any better at preventing cheating than PB does

Well, that's for all the MP games I play.

There is a cooldown of the spot ability.
I don't know how much, but if you spot something, you can spot something else almost immediately, but if you fail to spot something, you can't spot again for around 5sec or so..

If you have the PC version and you've made an account with the cd-key, you already have them. There's no need to put in an extra code on PC, as you have to buy the game new for an unused cd-key anyways.

it's in documents/BFBC2/settings.ini
the entry is Fov= at the end of the file.
