Lol. They will get bored, eventually. |
If it really is 4chan, I seriously doubt it. |
I mean, the FUbisoft. They blame hackers and stop porting games to pc.

I wonder if they actually are geting atacked or is it just because there are too many players playing.
I mean even the wow servers were laggy during the first months because there were just way too many players who bought the game.

The sad thing is, right now it's the players who are getting screwed over, not Ubi. And later on, it will give publishers more ammunition against the pirates and more justification for stricter DRM policies - showing this as an example of how really "evil" the pirates are, not just some people downloading games.
It will also create more hate from legit users towards the pirates, since it looks like they have "if we can't play - no one can" attitude.
Or they might stop development for PC - again PC users will get screwed over.
All in all, this would be a better situation if Ubi screwed up on it's own, not as a result of some attack.

If this IS an attack -- and all I have is Ubisoft's word that it is (lol) -- they asked for it with their smug bullshit. If they acted professional and designed DRM that didn't fuck over their own customers, they'd probably be selling more units right now.
Yeah, it is childish in a way, but Ubisoft is acting childish too. I'll be over here laughing at Ubisoft for creating DRM that they can't protect for their own customers. If they're smart they'll just scrap it and release a patch to let everyone play without their shitty servers.

Well, they said that playing will cause no problems, but trying to start a game might... what you've said confirms it.

Look at the perspective. Pirates aren't upset because they can't play ac2. Because every one can live without one game.
The real problem comes with the fact that it can set a precedent. if indeed this game cannot be cracked and it shows that publishers have found a way to copy protect games 100% proof.
Then from now on every publisher can do what ubi does and it would be the end of pirated games.
Personally I do buy games but i also pirate them. I can't afford to buy all the games and even if no game would be available for free, i still wouldnt buy them all, because i literaly have no monney to do so

this DRM, even if it prevents piracy, in my eyes, is a flop. a fail. a loss. if the DRM prevents piracy but evokes controversy, bad publicity , angry costumers and a game that doesnt work every time u try to run it is NOT A GOOD DRM!!!!

Any copy protection that will delay a game for even a week will provoke controversary.
Why? Because pirates are afraid to have a world where no game will be pirated.

As someone who doesn't care about AC2, I think this whole thing is hilarious. Pirates are mad, customers are mad, Ubisoft is looking helpless and pointing fingers, and the whole industry watches to see where it all leads.

i never meant a controversy among pirates. screw pirates (and yeah i pirate games too more often than not so screw me as well. my statement stands). i meant convtroversy among the potential buyers. among the press. in the official forums. everywhere.
i hope the game sells well. i hope that the DRM holds for a lil longer so UBI terns some profit but the buttom line is - a DRM with THESE kind of side effects (mainly the inability to play and making gamers face hackers who hack into the DRM's severs preventing gameplay altogether) is NOT a good DRM.

You also have to consider that DRM actually does it's job. It was supposed to make those people buy the game, who can buy it, but don't because it is also freely available, while buying doesn't give you any benefits. Some people on this forum have already bought it, I am sure there are many more.
It only remains to be seen if the benefits will actually be large enough to offset the losses made by those who didn't buy because of the DRM, and resources spent on developing and maintaining it.

I did not mean a controversary between pirates. But the pirates are the ones who do start the controversary.
For instance when starforce was out, maybe 5% of people had problems with the program on their pc, yet it was made a huge deal out of it.
Was it because the program was that bad? Or was it because the game was uncrackable at the time?
Now ubisoft has made this protection where you play on their servers.
There are plenty of games like this where you play on servers
Wow, Eve, AoC, linage etc.
In these games there are periods of time when the servers are down, or when the lag is so bad that you can't play anymore. Yet do they get bad publicity? Of course not. Why? Because people know mmos wont be cracked d if they da they dont offer the same fun as they do when you play with 1 milion other players.
Yet now a game like ac2 started all the hussle because they do the exact same thing an mmo requires you to do wich is to log online

But it's a SINGLE PLAYER GAME.
If you play an MMO, you understand there will be times where you can't play.
With a single player title, people expect, and rightfully so, to be able to play WHENEVER they want.
NO LINKS TO ILLEGAL STUFF IN SIGS - DLC IS ILLEGAL TOO

you can also state that MP games like MW or BF require u to tollerate bad connections but these games, as a genre of MP games, ive u large benefits that are not available otherwise. u accpet the discomfort because u know it isnt possible in any other way.
more than that - the online experience of MMOs and MP games is BETTER when u connect online!!
a singleplayer game is EASILY possible without online connection and it IS MUCH BETTER when no online requirements. we can all agree that AC2 would have been a better product without this online requirements but we can't agree that MW2 was a better product without online.
that's the difference!
and i might buy AC2 as well but not because i cant wait. it's because i want to play it enough due to it being a good game and i dont mind supporting the devs and the PC platform. i want to support the PC platform. if the online issues are resolved and i feel like im no longer taking a risk with my purchase - i will buy it gladly.
of course when a crack comes out - i will jump on it with both hands to rid myself of the DRM.
