Jesus christ this game is full of some seriously cheesy bullshit encounters. I'm sorry but someone casting Blizzaga and Wateraga within 2 seconds of each other is beyond stupid. Especially when your Sentinel seems incapable of doing their fucking job. The AI in this game is great - except when it comes to defensive roles - give them a job other than offense, and they will sit there casting Poison over and over again, when you're screaming at them to cast Imperil so we can get some magical weakness action going on.

And if anyone cares to know, you get to choose your party (not your lead) about 25 hours into the game. Huzzah. But seriously, these boss encounters are great - but I don't give a fuck about ANY of these enemies. Like at all. There is a moment in the game where a "grand" revelation is made, and it really just comes off as "so what. . .I know nothing about this guy - why do I care?" I really want to sit down and have a conversation with the story designer of this game and ask him what the hell they were thinking. 20 hours of

Yes when you reach chapter 9-10 i'd say its half of the game. Unless you are doing the speedrun you'll have around 40h at the end of the game (IF you skip monster hunting missions)

Yeah it would be really nice if you could de/activate skills in de menue.
Btw. what is quite nice is if you use Libra on an enemy the AI will use the information found it seems. For example if its weakness is water they will use water based attacks. Or if it deals heavy physical dmg, protect has a higher priority and so on.

Yeah, Libra (or fighting against a previously scanned enemy) helps enormously. The AI actually uses that properly, and even the autobattle command for your main character will choose the correct skills.

For all its difficulty in sorting out a correct strategy for fights, it's painfully obvious that the game has been streamlined to excess.

Mash A button. Getting pwned? Press LB, change to a different paradigm, mash A button. Win! Fanfare!

Its not the money man, its that every bank card I try to use is getting frozen atm because ive been using them abroad Twisted Evil (Seoul)

lloyds tsb debit cards, Ive had a message on my online banking from lloyds tsb stating that all of my active debit cards are frozen while they investigate "suspicious activity overseas". I rang them this morning and got put on hold for 45 mins to be told they froze my card until I confirmed some transactions.. because several people use my business account cards it appears I have to wait until my accountant can sort it all out.. which isnt until thursday Sad

It means 3 game preorders got canceled including this, bah Razz

Gamefly shipped my rental yesterday. Hope I get it on release date, so I can see what the hype is all about. Looks like Yakuza 3 is also ready to be shipped soon...love Gamefly(for 15 bucks a month, its the best service I have found!!!)

Fuck you SE. Fuck you up your unfair, sadistic, asses. I haven't had to ignore or run from an enemy AT ALL throughout the entire game.... until now. That stupid motherfucking bike at the start of Chapter 7. I've got no shrouds left with which to auto-initiate preemptive attack, so there's no way in HELL of beating him.

Both characters are fully levelled as much as their grids will allow, but they just don't hit hard - or fast - enough to bring the bike into stagger, so after three attack "rounds" he uses Gatling Gun and it's an instakill for Lightning.


THE ONLY FUCKING ENEMY I'VE HAD TO AVOID! Fuck you SE.

yeah these bikes are pretty mean, I managed to beat one IIRC but later on there are encounters where there are more enemies than just the bike so that was like impossible.
Oh and do not use up your smokes on normal enemies. Smile They are best used right before you enter into a boss battle. And you can use more than one at once.

I've beaten all the other enemies so far, but this new variety of bike is just fucking nasty Sad I've had to sneak past it and continue on... something I did NOT want to do!

As for the shrouds; Well I'm out now, but I *didn't* know you could use them on bosses! Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for when I get more.

so I played a few hours now... the presentation is by far the best aspect so far. the combat looks nice but for now it's just way too simple, as someone else mentioned all you do is mash the X button until the battle is won, but that's ok as we all know it gets better later.
it's obviously very impressive graphically, but I don't really like the characters too much.

the names alone are just really bad... I wonder why they fuck up shit like that on such a huge franchise.

Hope? Snow? Vanille? dear god why?
Lightning is probably the only character I like so far.. everyone else just throws stupid cliche'd comments out there. "Heroes don't run from fights!" says Snow before charging into a boss battle.... that's just lame.

also as if the 2 most annoying characters in an RPG ever, the 2 kids in lost odyssey, weren't enough, there's another 2 annoying kids right here.

note that I didn't watch any trailers apart from the very first one and know nothing about the characters or locations, so I'm sure you all knew the names and laughed your ass off about them a long time ago.
that's just me ranting there.. I still like the game so far but I just wish they'd go for characters who act like adults and make decisions that make sense. we had them in the old final fantasy games and it was awesome.. hopefully we'll get back there some day.

here's hoping that resonance of fate will satisfy my need for a more mature storyline.

You can try to outheal the gatling gun, that worked for me one time (guess I got lucky since 2 other times I died).
But honestly that's why capping the crystarium sucks, why aren't we allowed to level if we are too weak to beat an enemy.

have a sentinel, healer and a comando/ravager for the bike with gatling gun and it should be cake. Just change to that setting when you see the text

Aye, I'm around 13hrs in and - so far - I still prefer FFX. Still, at least as the story/graphics/audio goes, this is not the worst by far. I am thoroughly enjoying it and each smackdown a boss gives me just strengthens my resolve to come back with a winning strategy and whup his narrow ass Very Happy

lol I remember fighting the last boss in 8. It took like a fucking hour and a half to beat. I was like WTF is going on die already!!!!! I paused and took breaks during the fight.

I'm still waiting for XIII to get verified on ABGX. But I am really disappointed to see what people are saying abut it. I was expecting ground breaking type stuff, but looks like its not. I will still play it, but probably wont beat it.
