Overrated politically correct bullshit award as usual.
Personally I think Hurt Locker was a pretty dull movie with little characterization and story. But that's usually how it goes with Hollywood Awards... once a movie gets best directing the ole' academy farts starts to pile on more awards. Same shit every year.

avatar should have won best picture. i dont know if it should have won best director or best script, but by that token hurt locker shouldnt have won best script either, not by a long shot.
that said, i dont mind hurt locker winning, because i think biglow is an awesome director, and its got to see her getting the recognition. just a pity it was THIS movie though, because i didnt think that much of it.
avatar should have won editing though, i mean wtf.
also, glad UP won. i knew it would, but as a huge fan of monsters inc, its great to see docter get his oscar, hes incredibly talented.

If Oscars really meant something I would be disappointed, but since it isn't I say: meh.
Cameron must be weeping in his bath filled with cash
Oh, yeah, I'm glad Christoph Waltz got one

Its a decent film, but as far as story goes and all that its vastly overrated

but thats what the script categories are for... and fair call that it isnt worthy of best script or something, but best film is much more than that - its about the overall experience... the best use of the film medium as a whole.. and yeah, hands down, id say it was the best film experience of the year... certainly better than hurt locker.

The only REALLY well-deserved Oscar this year, IMO, would be Christoph Waltz' Best Supporting Actor.

Yes, the statuettes are yours so you give them to whoever is your best buddy at the moment. Whatever.
What you can't change Academy, and rightfully so, is the fact that "Avatar" IS the best movie of the year, whether you like it or not. The people voted with their wallets, and as the poll here on IMDB showed, they voted without their wallets too. From any angle, "Avatar" is the best movie of the year.
The way I see it, the Oscars should award groundbreaking achievements in cinematography. Well, if you can't see the achievements of "Avatar" I think you should not call yourself an "Academy" but an "elementary school".
Glorifying the adrenaline habits of a soldier in an occupied country, while murdering the rebellious locals, is not a good movie - it's a travesty. |
That imdb post pretty much sums it up. Totally agree.
And at least all other 'technical' oscars should have also gone to avatar...

That sounds like one heart-broken fan. He was probably all dressed-up in his Navi costume and his blue body paint and rubber hose tail. And now he has only imdb to vent his fury on.

I agree 100%.
Obviously The hurt locker was made with Generation Kill in mind, whereas Generation Kill had an excellent story and tons of remarkable characters (Ray, Brad, the godfather etc.), while the hurt locker had a pretty banal story and not a single interesting character.
And the main character just played an upgraded role from what he played in 28 weeks later.
So no innovations here, and no "best movie of the year".

Fair enough, I still disagree, but I can see what you are saying. (Havent seen Hurt locker myself so am not gonna comment on that)

Hurt locker was nothing special IMO. Avatar had great effects and achieved to create a believable world but the story and script were absurd and banal.
Inglourious Basterds was a nice movie and I would've liked to see it getting more recognition! But the only one who was robbed here is Waltz himself! He was the main antagonist in this movie and thus not a supporting role but a main character. He was 10 times more important to this movie then brad pitt, as he was the one who combined all the stories. So he would've deserved the oscar for the best main actor and not in a supporting role..

Oh I lol. Everyone deserved an Oscar. HL deserved it. Boal Deserved. Bigelow deserved it.
Hurt locker had it going for it. Great audio design. Great editing. Spectacular visuals.
Movie has been on track since 2008. It had traction. It won a shit load of amazing awards. Couldn't pick up a publisher. It's fucking lol. All in all it deserved all the recognition it got.
