I would rather want to see a card with the R480 for the AGP bus. These cards have been announced months ago, but yet nothing insight. ATI needs to get a mid-range AGP card on the market, the only attractive card right now for the AGP bus is the 6600GT (for those with an average income).

Dude, AGP is dying out. Why should companies make cards for older techniques? The next generation cards will probably not be available for AGP as they require PCI-E bandwidth. And if you got PCI-E there are still some good midrange cards like X600, X700 etc.

Because about 90% of the market still has an agp board and some of them including me are willing to invest in a new graphics card, however i am not willing to pay 350 euro for a X800 pro and i still refuse to buy nvidia, but if ati won't come up with something soon i will buy a 6600gt.

i read somewhere (slashdot) i think that there should be no increase in fps to be expected because of the architecture of agp...

Ollax - Lol, there's no need for 1024mb of video ram. 512mb (1x512 or 2x256) is more than enough even for the highest demands. BTW according to a very good local review I read regarding the new P4 Prescott 3.73ghz including SLI comparison, SLI only matter when using 1600*1200 or more. So It's pretty useless when gaming at 1280*1024 or less.

Dont care i like overkill and will never get caught outgunned! And the sli, correct me if i'm wrong works like this:
one card renders the upper half of the screen and the other takes care of the lower!
This means that i can run any game on the highest possible settings with a really nice resolution without ever having to deal with fps drops again
And offcourse, who knows what kinda games are being developed as we speak!

You guys got somehting wrong. SLI doesn't mean your ram doubles. Textures have to be saved on every card, so you still "only" have 512mb.

As far as I know its acutaly stripped, so each vertical pixel line is handled by a card, the next is handled by the other.. etc.. You can see this in action when using SLI there are options to show the stripes in different colours ! This caused a group of my friends much worry..
I just tested 2 PCI-E GFX cards (ATI 850XT 256mb and a NV 6660GT) on a brand new 3.73P4 EE.. Using the game Colin Mc on full GFX, the results show the 850 to be a far superior card.. no lag at all, where as the NV card showed a fair amount.. needless to say we put away the NV machine and stuck with the 5 ATI machines ! |
Thats not really fair is it the? 850xt is a better (more expensive?) card, you should at least have tried a 6800gt in all fairness!
I think the main problem for nv card in sli today is the shitty drivers actually, just give'em some time and thy'll be right up there

[quote="razor1394"]Some graphs made by Sweclockers. Don't look at the P4 graph as the new Prescott sucks donkey balls . For the little performance increase you get It's not worth MORE than DOUBLE the money of one X850XT. In some applications the performance is even worse than the X850XT.
Basicly the reason for this is that the sli driver still suxx ass, they will however et better over time and when i think of buying in august yhey will prolly be a bit cheaper and have better drivers:-)

Looks like the AGP cards are coming out now...
ATI Officially Releases New RADEON X850, X800 (AGP)
Quote: |
While PCI Express is rapidly replacing AGP in the new computers from makers like Dell and HP, the majority of end-users still uses older machines with previous-gen interconnection and even wants more powerful graphics cards as the time goes.
ATI’s R481, R430 Chips Attack AGP 8x Market
ATI Technologies, the world’s top developer of visual processing units, on Monday unveiled its long-awaited RADEON X850 XT and RADEON X800 XL products for computers that feature AGP 8x, targeting the so-called upgrade market. The new graphics cards hardly bring any innovations in terms of technology compared to the company’s previous-generation RADEON X800 lineup, but enable wider choice for customers looking for high-end Powered by ATI graphics cards.

Here is some more info on the new nVidia card:
NV48 is NV45 with 512MB RAM
Quote: |
DESPITE EARLIER claims, Nvidia will introduce one more card codenamed NV48. It won't be an exciting part of the phenomenon hardware thang, as Nvidia will use NV45 chips and will plug 512 MB of memory at the card. Actually, this time NV48 is the codename for graphic card more than it is for the chip. Clocks will remain the same it will be the same card clocked to 400 MHz core and 1100 MHz memory as it is with NV45, Geforce 6800 Ultra card.

New 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce 6800 Ultra Extends Performance Leadership and GeForce 6200 for AGP Lowers Price of Next Generation Graphics
CEBIT – HANNOVER, GERMANY—MARCH 10, 2005—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, today expands its award-winning NVIDIA GeForce 6 Series of graphics processing units (GPUs) by unveiling two new products: a 512MB version of the performance-leading GeForce 6800 Ultra GPU and a new lower-cost AGP version of the GeForce 6200 GPU which brings Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 technology to even more affordable price levels.
“Whether you are an extreme gamer or someone looking for an amazing upgrade, NVIDIA has the right product,” said Ujesh Desai, general manager desktop products at NVIDIA. “These two new products further validate our commitment to bringing leading-edge performance and features to both the AGP and PCI Express markets.”
Working with leading DDR manufacturers, the NVIDIA 512MB DDR3 GeForce 6800 Ultra GPU provides faster frame rates at higher resolutions and color depths and double the memory for geometry data and textures. The 512MB DDR3 GeForce 6800 Ultra GPU also features SLI technology to deliver an ultimate gaming supercomputer for the extreme gamer. In the mainstream space, the new GeForce 6200 AGP GPU brings Shader Model 3.0 functionality to the $79 price point.
The two new GPUs deliver breakthrough technologies, each providing new levels of performance and visual quality.
