Looks like there's a lot of restructuring involved. Some updates here.

Subscription based with micro-transactions and a cheap plastic controller that boosts the price of Modern Warfare 3 by $60.
Seems to me that IW vs Activision went sort of like this:
IW: We need 2 years to put out a good product.
Acti: Sure, we'll half-ass it with another company in the between year KACHING.
IW: And we're thinking about doing this game that's set in the future --
Acti: By the future you mean 2012 and your next installment of MW, yes?
IW: No, it's this great new idea we have, with --
Acti: Okay that's fine. You're both fired. AND we're giving Call of Duty to the guys who got dumped after Dead Space. Yes, we're so evil we feel the need to give away your game to another developer as well as sack you. Ahaha. Ahahahahahaha!
Activision. Because EA aren't evil enough.

It also confirms rumours dating back to January, when sources told VG247 that Sledgehammer – found by former Visceral bosses Glen Schofield and Michael Condery – would be creating Modern Warfare 3, and not Infinity Ward.

Yeah, I have an unusually strong wish to see this blow up in their faces, they are getting way too greedy, stomping over everything. Although it is a business, you are supposed to be aggressive to profit. Kotick did say that he plans to make game development a serious business, this appear to be the first steps. They want to became the largest, the meanest etc etc... Umbrella in the making.
Also reading Kotick's name always bring a smile to my face knowing what it stands for in russian, makes him seem so harmless...that bastard.

That's what I expect them to do too. IW was founded by former EA employees who made Moh:AA and left. Now if these guys, who revolutionized online-shooters with CoD:MW, look for a new job chances are that EA will take a closer look (like with Double Fine - Brütal Legend).

we have choice. we choose not to pay for these games. everyone else has the choice to NOT pay or play the game
problem isnt capitalism, problem is human nature. the majority of us will settle for shit as an alternative to not getting anything at all. our standards slip. thats why i always laugh at boycotts or when people say 'vote with your wallets'... that shit doesnt work, and the ONLY one who will suffer will be YOU, not the company, because there are plenty of others out there who will keep buying the product, and sending the 'wrong message' about what people 'want', because they would (all together now) RATHER HAVE SHIT THAN HAVE NOTHING AT ALL.
the problem is people.
im just thankful we have a way out. piracy  we dont give them money for shit, we can still 'enjoy' the shit (for whatever enjoyment there is to be had), and best of all? we invested NOTHING in the game, so have no problem yelling from the rooftops about how shit it is... unlike those who pay for it, many of which desperately try to defend it so as to justify the money they paid for it. ahh piracy, however did i survive the first 14 years of my life without you.

gaming... its all business. obviously activision reached a point where they saw that IW was more of a hindrance than an asset, and stepped in... whats to understand?
now what I find interesting in all this, is the lawsuit. those 2 dudes claim they have an agreement to control over the franchise and the company... activision, like most major companies, wont make any major moves without talking to their army of lawyers... so somewhere along the line, activisions lawyers saw that this would be a safe deal and that they could win in court if it came to it...
