What do you think about maintaining a thread with the list of PC games who originaly used some kind of copy protection, but it got removed by a recent (or not so recent) patch.

Let me start:

Arcanum - since any unofficial
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword - since 3.19
Civilization IV: Colonization - since 1.01f
Colin McRae DiRT - since 1.22
Command & Conquer: The First Decade - since 1.03
Diablo 2 (and LOD) - since 1.12
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey 2 - since 1.03
Far Cry 2 - since 1.03
Gothic 3 - since 1.70
Heroes of Might & Magic V - since 1.60
Neverwinter Nights (and expansions) - since 1.67
Neverwinter Nights 2 (and expansions) - since 1.23.1765
Prey - since 1.4
Quake IV - since 1.2
Sacred Underworld / Gold - since 2.28
Shadowgrounds - since 1.05
Supreme Commander - since 1.1.3280
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance - since 1.5.3598

The Witcher - since 1.5

I believe X3 Terran Conflict also got its protection removed.

Arma 2 needs a valid serial#. Many of the others too. Only disc check removed.

A serial isn't copy protection. It doesn't prevent you from copying a game or running without a disc check.

A serial is classified as copy protection. Go read and educate yourself;

Not to mention FADE. AFAIK it's still in effect and that's as much of a copy protection as any.

I personally don't consider a game as unprotected unless you can install it and play it fully without it needing a crack or serial. That would exclude things like Diablo 2, SC etc. I can't comment on all the titles but The Witcher is one I know is totally open now but it's only SP.

More useful - to some anyway - might have been a thread with games where you can play SP and MP without buying the game. The stickied GFWL thread has a few and obviously Borderlands, CIV 4. come to mind.
