These miniwheels are awful, and very uncomfortable. You might try one in a store for a few seconds and think it's not that bad, or even worse, look at a picture on the internet and think it's great, but it really isn't You'll end up using the analog sticks, and for that, a 360 pad is more recommended.
and even if the mini wheel was usable...i'd much rather have the excellent triggers from the 360 pad for throttle control than maybe a bit of extra steering sensitivity
This guy is using the Thrustmaster Run'n'Drive and it seems quite precise to me, only saw that from ppl with real steering wheels so far. Anyone with experience?

I'm sure it's precise, but you can achieve that with a 'normal' gamepad just as well.
I don't see how using this would be comfortable, with that thing all the way in the middle on the first one. Last but not least, I doubt it will be handy for making quick turns from left to right.
Get a real wheel, or use a normal gamepad. I race similar to the guy in the video you linked, and that's with a normal gamepad (Rumblepad 2).
And you should ignore Mortibus, he likes going against people
Also, that "HL2 gun" you're talking about Mortibus, isn't a "HL2 gun" in the sense that it was made for HL2, was just demonstrated with it!

It isn't handy for quick turns at all. Not only does the mechanism not work well or fast, the thumbs are just not capable performing similar motions you make with your entire hands. So you will end up having to turn it with your entire hand (the other holding the controller).
You use two fingers for the wheel, not only the thumb. Look at the nipples left on the wheel. You push the upper one down using your pointing finger to steer left and push the lower up using your thumb for right. I still think its much more precise than the analogue stick where you really only use one thumb, especially if you are a retarded XP user like me...
Why do they use it for RC Cars Controllers if it sucks so badly? Look what they use here:
They do not use sticks like they use for air planes.

Notice how the guy in the RC video uses his entire right hand - you can't dedicate either hand with such a gaming controller because that would mean you lose control over most of the buttons on the controller - so no camera changes, no horns, no hand brakes, no gear shifting, no look behind, etc.

And the "no fingers free for horns" etc argument is lame, your fingers are not fixed on the wheel and there are the sticks as well if you need to play with hooters while driving. Okay, so let's assume you're using 2 fingers on your left hand for the wheel, which basically means the remaining 3 fingers there will have to be in an awkward position to press any button, right?
Now, there's 2 choices for your right hand:
- You use an analog stick for throttle; means you got 2 fingers to press the shoulder buttons, and you can take your thumb off the throttle/brake to press the other buttons. Yay, there goes a good portion of your car control already, since in any proper racing game you need to steer, manage throttle, shift and possible hit the (hand)brake at the same time.
- You use buttons for throttle/braking, which, if you're such a precision whore, is not exactly accurate either. Does give you 2 more buttons you can easily press without having to sacrifice throttle/brake entirely though.
So your choice come down to not being able to get 100% control, or sacrificing accuracy for the sake of buttons - you say yourself you're a precision whore, so having a digital throttle isn't desirable.
You're completely contradicting yourself really. A gamepad with 2 analog sticks gives you full freedom on steering and throttle, whilst still allowing you to press buttons without twisting your hand
Mind if I ask what these things cost? To me it sounds like you need a proper wheel, there's a few wheels out there that are quite cheap and will probably fulfill your needs just fine
I ordered the Thrustmaster for 24 Euro. I dont think u get a decent wheel under about 70 euros and i dont have the space on desk anyway. Beside that do i have my feet anywhere but not on the ground while gaming.

I currently use 3 fingers for buttons on each hand and the anal.thumbs to steer and acc/break. I have fingers on 3 buttons on each side, without moving them. Using the wheel i would lose one finger on the left side but its only the pointer at the shoulder for shift and you never need shift up/down at the same time, me at least. I can use the middle one for that. I do not use manual clutch so far. I dont use a xbox controller. Mine got 2 additional buttons on the downside for the ring-fingers, like the new with wheel. They are hand-breake and look modifier.
