Why are you glad you waited? Unless you qualify it your comment is pretty redundant.
|
I'm glad I waited as people seem to have problems with it and by the time its in the bargin bin they should be patched up, I dont understand what you mean when you say qualify?. |
Because you already mentioned the fact you were going to wait for it earlier, only to interject afterwards; 'I'm glad I waited' without specifying why (or what had changed to validate your earlier statement).
Now you have that's fair enough, because I also have run into the same issues with audio skipping (which can often, but not always, be remedied by pausing the game and waiting for the HDD to stop thrashing) and a loading screen with no ending in sight. I think I must have stared at Madisons eyes for ten minutes before I gave up and called it a night. The first half of the game was fine for me but then these started cropping up towards the end... and yeah it's a bit of a pain, but it honestly hasn't affected my judgement of the game.
I am very, very surprised that (to my knowledge?) not one single review mentioned it. Since if I had any complaints about the game then it would relate to these technical aspects for sure? Hopefully it gets patched as you say, but you'd think they'd have ironed it out before release.

Yeah that's definitely true. Had to pull myself away from it a couple of times.

You don't think it was the 220mb update?
People who un-installed the patch found the issue going away.....
I haven't had any issues and am in a PAL country, I don't know if that is relevant.....

You can uninstall the patch?
Though, I started the game from the beginning to show it to my gf (who actually was really into the story and like I mentioned before she normally never watches me play anything) and haven't run into the problems I had the first time round (sounds stuttering, video freezing).
So I'm not sure if uninstalling the patch is still necessary :/

I never installed the patch and I had the problems. I don't understand why it's so variable though, they should lock it down. Either way, I finally completed the game. I will say that was a fantastic experience from start to finish, with my only real reservations for the very end.
Obviously spoilers within;
Spoiler: | Namely how Spiderman spoiled the game without spoiling the game *shakes fist*
...but the resolution with the killer was quite anticlimactic and unconvincing. Almost felt rushed and there wasn't enough time for it to sink in or be expressed.
I also lost one of my guys (Jayden) and he just seemed to disappear, there wasn't much fanfare when it happened. There was a scene at the end to commemorate him at least, but I think they needed to make the transition between those special events that can happen more transparent since I felt the same jutter when I failed to wipe away all the prints at the typewriter shop. It can take you out of the moment if you suspect you've done something that's not considered canon |

I don't know about Heavy Rain but yes some games do let you uninstall patches - or worst case scenario you just delete the main installation and let the game reinstall and opt out of the patch download.

The problems seem to be effecting first release and slim consoles, not sure about the in between consoles. Its not a small bug is it! its a big nasty selection of them by the sounds of it, not acceptable in my books. I'd rather wait and let the bugs get ironed out and by the time someone would have dropped one in the second hand bin or they will be in the £25 selection.

Point is I neither have a release console nor a slim one O.o
Though stuttering hasn't happened again so far and I only had one freeze.

Had those sound bugs 2 or 3 times first time in the 1. chapter (or 2 times there). Never crashed or anything only those sound holes.

Could those who are having issues state what console they have and firmware please?
Just interested in puzzling out what might be the problem.

I thought it would effect more consoles than Sony reckon, wasnt sure, maybe its to do with firmware or something then.
Either way not acceptable.

Try, that's all anyone can do.
Or we could do what you recommend which is nothing.

I would think it's a problem with the way they are caching stuff, and any commonalities between users suffering the problem is a red herring - but I'm just talking out of my jacksie so take that with a generous pinch of salt. For the record I have a 40GB PS3, latest firmware - no Heavy Rain patch installed and no peripherals plugged in.

For Heavy Rain I have no issues on a 256gb slimline with latest firmware. But you're probably right about commonalities being fishy......

For fucks sake, how much am I going to have to download before I can play this fucking game?
I fucking knew the second I got the PS3 it would going to be a cunting headache. 600+ fucking patch, plus installing, wtf I bought a cunting console not a PC. (and yes I know live games have patchs but I have yet to find one that is as big as 600meg)

Well every other console I have had I put a game in, and it plays.
yes the xbox has minor patches, but they take 30 seconds / a minute.
WIth the ps3 every game I have put in seems to require a patch (usually a large (ish) one) then I see forced install's.
Sorry but 2 patches (if the poster before be was right) within a week of a game coming out is a joke.
and this is the interweb, so I am in my rights to moan randomly about everything :Y

not the ps3 fault but the developers that though every ps3 cell processor is the same ... when the slims have a faster 45 nm processor that is gimped to old PS3 standards ,so they consume less power and generate less heat

Probably more to do with the Xbox 360 basically being a PC in a box where as the PS3 isnt.

Most people don't seem to be having any problems but then again I have only completed 45% of the game.
But as Ispep said:

Here you go again flaming and trolling, isn't it any wonder you get banned posting deliberate spoilers on launch day ruining the game for people who have just bought it?
I mean do you actually own Heavy Rain or played it through?
Why do you keep posting and trolling in these threads, commenting negatively on games you don't even own or have ever played but to cause trouble?

The worst patches are the ones EA puts out. Stealth patches you're required to install in order to play online but which don't contain any real content unless you pay for the new DLC. To be honest it bothers me as well - the last thing you want to do when you get a new game is sit down and download a patch - but there's nothing stopping you doing exactly what I did and declining to install the update. It's not essential.
Also the patch is 250~MB not 600MB.

Played this on my older 80GB ps3, downloaded the patch, beat the game, no problems (maybe like 1 or 2 minor stutters), it was fucking epic, I loved every minute of it, MOAR!
