Well, my copy of AC2 will arrive on Thursday/Friday, so I'll let you guys know how it works.
Also, of course this DRM is crackable. Ubi said themselves that in case the servers for activation and playing are turned off, they're going to release a patch removing the protection, so there must be some kind of a gap the pirates can use.

You bought it after everything you said here
Check page 20, I already explained it there. I had preordered the game on 25th January already.
I was considering to but it myself. It is substantially cheaper if I preorder, and I did want to play this game, so it seemed worth it to avoid all the hassle with waiting for working cracks for that thing, considering that buying it later would cost me about 20 USD more.
But the idea of supporting that kind of protection system made me hold off on that, at least for now. It's not a problem for me, but as I've said before, I don't like the idea in general.
Also, looking at the release calendar, I think there are plenty of games coming out to keep me distracted
To be fair, they want to prevent second hand games being sold, as they're the exact same thing as piracy to the publisher/developer.
That's why I'm going to do it if there will be no cracks. Publishers like Ubisoft don't deserve money. I know, games like AC wouldn't be here that way, but who cares.
Also how do they intend to stop reselling games using account? Since MW2 I always bind game to blank account so it is possible to sell if I don't like it anymore. That's essential thing to do for people that (think they) will resell their game later...
Ubisoft confirmed that the DRM will be implemented in Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, as well as Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, The Settlers 7, Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic, Ghost Recon and other upcoming titles.
Ubisoft confirms their controversial new DRM scheme that requires a constant online connection will be used in Splinter Cell: Conviction, Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic, Assassin's Creed 2, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, and the new Ghost Recon game, reports Softpedia by way of PC Gamer magazine. They offer a quote from a Ubisoft spokesperson: "It's hard for us to say, yes, from now until the day that we all die all of our games are going to include this but most will." Thanks Shacknews.
I will laugh hard when the cracks go out and the ones that "invent" that DRM get their heads decapitated out of the company...

I'm sure they'll remove it after Silent Hunter 5 and AC2.Or, even better, they'll delay the other titles.
I don't think they'll back down. If it fails they are more likely to stop developing for PC altogether.
The first game sold something like 40 000 copies in the US, it just won't be worth it if it sells even less now.
Maybe because 90% of the US plays on their consoles while sitting on their fat asses?
Remember the console fanboys screaming "OMG, CRYSIS ONLY SOLD 100K IN US, WHILE HALO SELLS IN MILLIONS". Well guess what, the same month after they counted the Europe sales, they reached 1 million
Besides, even a profit from 40k sold games is still better than NO PROFIT at all.

It's simple:
They release their pc games? -> Fail.Big losses.
They cancel their pc games? -> Fail.Bigger losses. No profit at all.
So they'll back down, accept their FAILURE and DISRESPECT to their customers and again..fail.There's one way for them.Epic fail.
