Lower the distance slider to 20-30 and magically you'll have the same ugly looking game as before but with a gain of +10-20fps Smile

That distance slider is absolutely THE biggest performance killer.

Unbelievable, after I switched from XP(32bit) to Win7(64bit) the huge stuttering I had is finally gone Surprised
The overall framerate is still bad though, but at least the game is playable... Smile

1.0.0.4 is indeed the latest patch (Cockstar changed the version numbering. This is "patch 5" after "patch 4" was 1.0.4.0. Go figure)

As for mods? JBeckman seems to be the go-to guy for that Very Happy

Heh, not really, I use ENB 0.77b and "RealCars" along some minor tweaks like VisualIV but very customized.

For utilities I use the GTA IV Native Trainer 0.5 or what it's version was and XLiveLess alongside SecuROM's own GTAIVLauncher.exe or SecuLauncher as it's called as of the latest patch. (Just delete the old file and rename and use that instead.)

Oh and this is the link for that car mod, looks pretty good.

(Only parts of it though, doesn't replace the car names.)

Most of this can be found on the GTA IV forums and GTAGarage.

EDIT: Some ASI scripts as well like first person perspective and a file protection remover so it doesn't interfere with the patch.
(1.0.0.4 blacklists 1911.dll, any modifications to handling.dat for MP - although "liveless" disabled that anyhow - and some other file modifications and doesn't load altered data for those files properly.)

just bought this on steam.... it's a 15GB download, i start downloading the game and after a few minutes steam says the game is 100% ready... what the hell.... and obviously i can see my router is still downloading stuff.... how do you fix this?

The crack is basically just for the launcher, so you have to replace just that.

Yeah, I replaced the original launcher with the GCW launcher. It just asks me to activate the game, it's not supposed to do that is it?
