I'd say it could well be worth a DVD-DL. I mean, hell, what isn't worth a £1 blank DVD? Play it and judge for yourselves, but be warned; AVP, you are one ugly motherfucker.

Ok, well INSIDE the Refinery (you guys might recognise the area; it's the MP demo map) the atmosphere has gotten a lot better... it's claustrophobic, aliens come out the walls, facehuggers lay in wait for you (annoying as piss actually, because fighting one off takes almost all your health bar. I'm popping stims like sweeties right now) and it's more tense.

Aliens are still slow and facehuggers are hilariously slow, they move like crabs and almost never pounce - so you can outrun them easily Sad The only reason the game is getting harder now is because of the AMOUNT of aliens coming at you, and when they die; they explode in a burst of acid which pretty much kills you instantly.

Still ugly as sin though.

So yeah, finished the Marine campaign - it does get better and I guess you could say I enjoyed it. It's not a festering pile of shit anyway Wink PC version should be better, though the voice acting will still be the same, lame, crap it is now. DEFINITELY play through at least on Hard, because any lower setting would be way too easy.

I'd guesstimate around 6-8hrs gameplay on the Marine campaign, depending on whether you scour the world looking for the datapads. I missed 1 on the first level (God knows how Sad) and 3 on the Jungle level, for 63/67 total.

Why? Because I happen to disagree with you? Well cry me a fucking river, you big baby. Oh and no; the Marine campaign isn't scary, or even creepy in the slightest. Hell - it doesn't even get you with cheap scares like jumpy moments. It's a shooter, first and foremost, and by the end of the game it's just swarms of enemies.

Not even remotely chilling. In order of scares;

AVP>AVP-Jaguar>AVP2>The Tweenies>Teletubbies>AVP3.

I am enjoying the game so far not as great as i was hoping for as i enjoyed the other 2 and really enjoyed the jaguar one, but it is still a fun game and i find the marine game play scary and heart pounding, waiting for pc one to see if it looks graphicaly better.

well I've played it now, and my earlier criticisim about Brit developers not cutting it against the yanks, kinda holds firm.

We have some talented guys in the UK (I used to work as a senior manager at an Empire Interactive studio now part of Rebellion), but not the same big hollywood passion for games like you guys do over the pond.

Can't help feeling if this had been handled by Epic or Activision, this could have been sweeter. ah well...

yes but these are rare exceptions. GTA admittedly although based in the North of England are far more American outward looking than most in the UK.

Rare? well Banjo, Pinata, influential, but can't imagine these guys developing Hollywood blockbuster style movie games, and Elite, Innovative yes, but very very eccentric and British.

Fable is again very impressive, but is a different genre, to that which I'm referring.

I think you've misread my implication. We have lots of talent as I first stated, but not the blockbuster cool of state side developers, seen in games such as Gears of War and so on which a game like AvP is very reliant on.

Remember Inferno from DID, the epitome of Geek UK Sci-FI.

Still like I say just my two pence regarding cultural differences (and not talent and innovation, which your refering too) from some one who's worked a long time with UK dev games talent.

Regarding the article, you should check out Tom Watson who chairs Gamers Voice on behalf of the UK Government. It's a very active and cool community of government officials who support and play video games.

Hahaha.., did I? Who says i was talking to you? I meant creepy atmosphere not scary or something. They have to do better than that.

Brave boy! Tell your mom, she will be proud of you not pissing your pants anymore. To prevent a response like this I thought 'yes' delete it but there you have it.

There's only three emulators on the 360 right now and those are SNES, NES and from what I've seen; a rudimentary MAME port. There are rumours of other emulators in the works, but since I don't have a JTAGed machine I haven't really bothered keeping up.

Anywaaaaay.. no, there are no Jaguar emulators on the 360, but there are some on the PC.

Project Tempest: http://pt.emuunlim.com/
Virtual Jaguar: http://icculus.org/virtualjaguar/ (the best one)

Both can run AVP, though both are a bit glitchy.

finished the marines campaign, it gets better in the second half, some parts are fun-but still a very average game.
the scare factor is totaly ruined by the gameplay, you can knock down aliens at close combat and run to regen, benny hill style. Seriously wtf, a marine running like a fag with 5 aliens after his ass, knocking them down, running in circles -_-

The fight vs the predator was a joke, was bored to tears...
What a shame to make a game like this with the avp franchise, hope we won't have to wait another 10 years to get another -better- port.

NO comparison, the game is fugly.

This thread is one of many that shows the dreadful downward spiral recently of the NFO forums.
My opinion is they are not being monitored nor moderated successfully.

This game is like an upgrade of the first AVP game that came to PC. Which is an downgrade from AVP2 which I think is a much better game. The facehuggers in the first game I still have nightmare about, they were instant death in AVP1, here you can just throw them off your face which make them not even close to scary. The most scary moments from the first one was when you saw an oppened egg and you knew there was a facehugger somewhere in the dark, on top of that, if it killed you, you had to restart the whole level. So the atmopher was much better in rebellions games, but AVP2 had so much more "game" and so much better story.

This game just feelt like it came a few years late...

Completed Marine campaign on Hard, way easier than I thought. Health packs are spreaded around pretty much everywhere. Only weapon I found really ineffective is the flamethrower; they burn for a long time before they explode, and it doesn't seem like it really slows them any down either. Mainly used sniper and shotgun Wink Grenades on the machine gun is pretty nice too Smile

/predator campaign^^
