See game dev's demos do sell games (and consoles)

I thought the controls were clunky though, but I can live with that.

Game got a 9/10 at Eurogamer. Seems to be a very positive review at a glance, only with the obvious caveat it's not for everyone tacked on the end. Have to say that before the demo I was slightly worried, but looks like that was premature.

It's quality not quantity that matters - but what games do you actually have? Maybe we could recommend some.

---

Another review by Kotaku is very positive also;

Quote:
Heavy Rain is a strong effort by Quantic Dream. It succeeds as a game that doesn't need the constant killing and chaos that so many video games depend on to be interesting. It may ultimately be a murder mystery and an exploration about the lengths to which players might push the characters they control. But Heavy Rain is, at its frequent best, a game about emotion and subtlety, a game that doesn't condemn choices as bad but instead allows them to be different, allows them to be meaningful and allows the player to feel. This is a game for grown-ups or anyone who wants to feel like one.

I have no doubts that it will end up gathering dust.

I just like the 360 more. I cant stand the playstation controller, I find PSN slow, and games that I play are generally multiplatform.

However, my mobile (cell) phone contract was due for renewal, and I just got a free PS3 with a new contract (the phones a peice of shit, but I have my old phone that I bought to cover that)

Free PS3, Cheaper line rental and a spare phone I figured what the hell.

I want to play GOW3 (and may get the GOW collection), Little big planet is fun enough, Heavy Rain and I may have a look at Uncharted 2 (although I didnt like the first one)

360 will still be the main console in the house, but I now have all three so I am covered on the exclusive front.

I also wont cry as much when my 360 RROD's on me Very Happy

EDIT //

I will admit though I am interested in its media capability, I have a BluRay player, but I want to play with downloaded stuff and its gotta be easier and better than the 360

Got my review copy today and i must say i love this game. It kinda has the same atmosphere that the movie Seven has. It's dark, depressive and hunting for a serial killer in these conditions are chilling Smile
The controls needs abit tweaking. I often have to do stick movement twice before i get a reaction. Buttons works fine. The gfx is insanely well done and the best on any console yet. Incredible artwork. Not to mention the great animations done in this game. High quality indeed.
The story seems nice but there are some scenes that doesn't seem logical although the scenes are memorable in any way, but some just don't make any sense. But i haven't finished the game yet so it might make sense later. I already manage to get a character killed in the game and how that impacts the story is yet to be known for me.

In short... one fucking awesome game and if you love a good thriller/detective game you are going to go nuts over this one. I loved Fahrenheit and played it several time... This one is waaaaaay better in any way. One could call it an interactive movie but the term just doesn't justify it either. I feel for the characters in the game and i go fucking nuts if something happens to them. The interactivity works as Quantum wanted to. You get feelings for them either good ones or bad ones.

I really miss my old reviewing job. I used to get all the new games a week early to review them and post it on a blog, it was awesome. Who do you write for dude?

That's very odd. In the 2 and a half years that I've had my PS3 I've never had a slow download. Infact, I always download at 35mb/s or more whether I'm downloading from the EU or US server.MUCH MUCH FASTER than I've ever had from xbox live.

I'm hardwired into my router though, I don't use wireless for gaming and I hear that the wireless in the PS3 is shit.

I tried it hardwired (router is next to the TV) and wireless and it took forever to download the 3.15 update (or whatever the latest is)

Also patching games takes forever.

It may be a regional thing though I tried downloading through the uk playstation site and it was chugging along at 50kbps, the following say I was getting my maximum of 800kbps.

But I have to be honest and say that overall I find Xbox live snappy and fast.

However, I will say that I am willing to take the hit on speed during peak PSN times because it is free, so I wont moan about it too much Very Happy

OK, I'm lying slightly and you've just reminded me of something that I always forget about. I cannot explain it but for some reason, updates always download slowly for me. Everything else is lightning fast.

I didn't notice it. I was too distracted by the blur and cumbersome controls.

I find Live quicker, maybe it just has smaller patches, but overall I find live far quicker.

Its not the end of the world and its free so you cant complain Very Happy

Nah, it's obviously a network issue, I find leeching demo's, patches or mp game-play faster (game dependent of course) on PSN than XBL.

PS3 doesnt need a better GPU though since the cell handles alot of the rendering stuff also. The sum of its parts, and when used right the PS3 is a superior machine. We're starting to see it more in first party games, because most 3rd party games unfortunatly are ported across and are not designed to run originally with the PS3 architecture in mind

Update was a hell of a lot quicker on my new system, so maybe it was network congestion before (My end was fine because I tested it using the xbox and PC)

Either way its here, I just have to wait for Heavy rain to come out now :d

Fahrenheit was fantastic up untill the part where everybody turns into NEO and starts dodging bullets and doing chinese cart wheel flippy things and all that sort of silly stuff, I hope this game doesn't go down that route. I haven't actually followed anything from this other than the very first tech demo trailer with that woman in the kitchen, lol.

Just played the demo, first impressions very very good. The graphics are stunning, animations and the character details are superb. I played the sleazy place scene like a complete dick on purpose just to see how they react, then played it nicer, and the differences where huge, even getting into a fight with some douche.

Crime scene was also good, atmosphere so far is great. This is what Fahrenheit should have stuck to Smile it reminds me a lot of the "Se7en" universe, very gritty but at the same time incredibly welcoming and believable. The weather effects are great and it gives a really strong somber feeling about the environments.

Just pre-ordering the collectors edition now, good stuff!
