I really don't get all the hype surrounding this movie... It was just another fairytale masked by extreme CGI which, alltogether was too much and kind of fake. It's not that the cgi was shit, no, it was the fact that it looked sort of cheap. Some scenes in TF contained a lot of more realistic aliens.

But that's just my opinion.

thanks to this movie not i can fully apreciate the masterfull skill of Titanic , no troll , seriously , that movie is just well made with a grea atention to detail and complex characters (well .. way more complex than in Avatar) .

A 2D movie for a 3D experience , oscar worthy shit right there Laughing

Don't agree about Titanic being acutally good, but Avatar could be the most overhyped movie ever. It feels like a spiritual successor to Transformers 2 rather then to Terminator 2.

As my second sentence points out, I don't mean revenue or number of nominations but quality of the movie. Avatar is often said to be the best movie ever which is bullshit. It was a nice popcorn flick that didn't leave much traces in your mind (except for maybe "OMG these effects were so expensive"). It doesn't stand a chance competing against District 9 for Movie-of-the-Year.
I don't say it's a bad movie and it definitely is miles ahead of Transformers 2 but the hype AND success is not justified.

i thought the same , tho i revisited it and appreciate the effort put into the overall detail , he had to sell the story somehow to be honest and he did a good enough job of recreating the whole tragedy . Sure it's a shitty love story cause most people eat that shit up , ripped of some parts from the first german (nazi) Titanic movie .
Also love the cinematography , some cut footage had some stellar looking scenes . James Horner didnt rip himself off , etc

In Avatar the CG isnt even that good when not in 3D , in 2D it's plain CG , extremly obivous CG at that , unlike say DISTRICT 9 .

btw , some of you will love this , i recommend watching his Phantom Menace review for moar lulz Laughing Laughing

i dont give a fuck, ill still watch it

Agree. Nuke my ass...glitches!?! Cough..well you hardly notice that...biggest reason p2p if you ask me "scene is dying - too many p2p grps"..lol Very Happy

Quality ain't that good but it's ok, film ain't that good but it's ok so = ??? If you want dvd quality, wait - if you just want to watch this (and don't give a flying f... about scene vs. p2p), this is version to go atm (others can be ok but at least this is....something).

Is there a point to downloading any of these releases besides the DVDR?

I'm not sure if the one I downloaded off usenet is original or an xvid--> dvd job....

They do this a lot. Many so called "untouched DVD-screeners" on usenet turn out to be transcodes from XviD source.

there are good dvdrs out there though. But the guy who did the original dvdr (the one all the releases are based on) apparently screwed up in making it. So if you want to make a dvdr you need to fix his errors first.

i avoided this movie JUST BECAUSE everybody went to see it and told me how i had to see it as well. Especially people who never actually have any taste at all.

And yet i liked the movie. It has its pitfalls and some scene really do look crappy. But those are far the minority and the movie itself is well-paced, gorgeous looking and has ripley in it.
Looking like a dryad in one scene.
I dont need more than that. Laughing
Actually if they made a movie only consistiing of sigourney weaver looking like a dryad and nothing else, i d be sold, hahahahahaha

chiv: Avatar 2009 DVDScr H264 AAC-SecretMyth, (Kingdom-Release) is probably good, i got one of the good dvdr's myself though.

Edit: just checked it out, its good. But not better than the dvdr. The best version imho is the dvdr (p2plovers, all the dvdscrs are based on that dvdr afaik) although that one is split up into 20 or so parts so find a dvdr that has fixed that issue without re-encoding the thing.

Avatar goes 4D in Korea

Korean firm adds dimension to 3D movies

SEOUL -- If the 3D "Avatar" is not enough, how about 4D?

The 4D screening uses more than 30 effects during the 3D film's 162 minute run, including moving seats, smells of explosives, sprinkling water, laser lights and wind. Despite the much higher $15.80 ticket price (an average ticket costs $6.90), screenings are regularly sold out.
"We (started to) prepared the 'Avatar' 4D ride last summer," says Tom Oh, prexy of 20th Century Fox Korea.
But 4D isn't new to Koreans. The nation's leading multiplex chain, CJ-CGV, began 4D shows last year in one 88-seat theater, with"Journey to the Center of the Earth."
But with the success of "Avatar," CJ-CGV opened three more "4D plexes."
Ten films have been shown with 4D effects designed by CJ-CGV's 4D programmer over the last year.
"There is no 4D theater like ours around the world. CGV's 4D plex is the first in the world that fully offers five-sense experiences with a movie title," says Kim Daehee, publicity manager of CJ-CGV.
Exhib has more 4D titles on tap, including the upcoming "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief."
Hoping to cash in, animation and VFX shingle Wonderworld Studio has announced that it has launched a unit specializing in the 4D experience. A Korea-U.S. joint venture with the L.A.-based Animation Picture Co., company plans to complete 10 4D ride films this year.
