I don't understand what the issue is here with being suspicious that this game might suck... Are we suddenly living in a world in which game publishers allow websites to post previews containing video from parts of the game that suck? Because, from what I've seen, the videos of the game do not look fun.
And what is this talk about this game supposedly being judged most innovative, etc.? The game is out, and has been reviewed by people -- and I see nothing to suggest that it's innovative or amazing. But yeah, that 29/40 Famitsu review says it's going to be funderful, right? I mean, Famitsu is well-known for being harsh on JRPGs that look like single-player MMOs *cough*FF12 40/40 review*cough*

You can't always use game footage as a barometer. You can definitely infer a lot (such as the mechanics of the game), but when it comes to the all important question of gameplay itself you can never be entirely certain. Unless you sit down and actually play it first hand you'll never know whether it would have gotten its hooks into you. I've made that mistake a number of times, and I'll continue to make that mistake - as will I imagine a lot of other people in this thread - so I would say whilst first impressions count, they aren't everything.

There is some confusion in this thread, the game a lot of these people are talking about is Demon Souls thanks to a derailment ( ). Famitsu also gave White Knight Chronicles a good rating all things considered, and they aren't the only place to have reviewed it either. You could check Eurogamer if you like, as they gave the Japanese imported version a very good 8/10. Then there is the reaction from other gamers which from what I've read has been mostly positive in a; 'hey this game is good, well worth playing' sort of response. Particularly I suppose if you enjoy this genre of games. |

All good points as usual Ispep.
I am partly to blame for the derailment by highlighting the fact that Spiderman once again derided a game he hadn't played, it helped create confusion, for that I apologize.
However, people must ask themselves why certain subscribers feel a need to constantly sow dissention (not viewpoints) purely for the sake of it.

Well, since I see that I was confused a bit by the derailment, I'll withdraw some of my criticism. However, I maintain that the video evidence, coupled with luke-warm reviews by Famitsu and RPGfan, is reason enough to suspect that White Knight Chronicles might turn out to be a backwards step by a once-amazing developer.
It's impossible to really pass judgment on the game at this stage, but things don't particularly look good for it.

It got an international release and has a sequel in the works. I'd say for a game that was done and dusted it's doing and done quite well.

Interesting..the average score is 8.5 from gamers who have the game and 7.5 from the press and remember that it was IGN who gave Star Ocean 4 an 8.......
The majority of hard core gamers who actually own the game gave it between 8.5 and 10.
Here is what someone wrote about the IGN review:
"In a nutshell, the review is trash. Rent this game, and develop your own opinion. Ryan Clements is an idiot. And this concludes one of my rare visits to this IGNorant site for another couple months. Good day."
I like this comment on the IGN review:
