I still don't think the new Ubisoft method is "uncrackble" tough, basically,I think it's possible to emulate their servers, just like private Servers for MMOs and then, because most of the game is a single player,it would be easier to make it working....but it would still take a months to do it,tough.

well the problem here bunny is this system protection is intertwined with Uplay a new PC driver based service like M$Live that will be installed with the game and give you achievements with score that will buy stuff , unlock DLCs for Free and for other things

UPlay isn't PC-centric, it's built into the 360 version of AC2 as well.

yes i know , but as xbox360 Live is build into the OS , on PC games that came with it need it for profile making and savegames ...

so if it works the same way , then this is the protection , Uplay profile service with drm protection and save system ONLINE or offline ,,, so you have to hack the system to play the game

and now you even see this evolution in Ms Live on PC that will now have 15 activations for each game , like in Bioshock 2

this are already exist on MMO's as well... I think with emulated private Server will work here, but we might need someone to host it..

Lol, "we need someone to host the emulated private server" ?

Are your brain cells on strike ? Emulated servers can run locally.

Anyway, if they implement this carefully, it could prove difficult to crack, it's very bad when you're missing a piece of the puzzle.

Anyway, I'm guessing the first implementations of this are going to be kinda light.

I say bring it on, Ubisoft.

The harder you make it, the more incentive the crack groups will have to be the first to break it.

Developers only try to avoid piracy when the games are so bad that no one buy. I don't think (for example) Elder Scrolls 5 will need any protection at all, they can release it for free if they want, and put a donation website.

The.Elder.Scrolls.5-BETHESDA

Thanks for download this game, go to Bethesda.com/donation and donate.

They're right. And new DRMs won't solve the problem. What would? Probably nothing.
But (yeah for sounding like a broken record) higher quality games would probably mean more sales means less piracy etc. Of course there will always be people who pirate games and never buy them *shrug* can't keep them from doing it.
Oh, and maybe lower game prices Cool Face

Well the new DRM is indeed draconian and this is the first time that a game merits being pirated IMHO, regardless of the price, only for the reason that the pirated version wont relay on constant connection to any server (I assume), and paradoxically will offer a better service to the...ehm.."customer"...... (other DRMs that limits the number of games you can install/That require to connect to a server for the install are pain in the ass but I personally can live with it as long as you can reset the number of installs).
Mostly, I believe, that people pirate games because of their price Wink

more demo's + better games - not just (shitty half baked) console ports + no draconian drm - less piracy.

so UBI claim this is it and they are sticking to their guns _ CVG.co.uk article. they seem to not remember adopting-backlash-dumping Starforce a few years back.

they are quick to blame every little PC related business decision on piracy, yet fail to acknowledge that console piracy is nearly as rampant.

they'll adopt this new DRM, PC sales will tank, they'll phase out their PC games, & blame piracy. They'll continue to make shitty dumb downed games - that continue to encourage console piracy- yeah i look forward to the state of UBI in the next 5 years.

oh and

couldn't resist.

more demos

How could I have forgotten that. I've been bitching for years that demos get lesser and lesser and the demos you are most of the time way too short to give you a good look at the game.

Seems that UBI didnt take Avatar sales lightly. I'm sure this new play-protection will definatelly stop pc gamers from playing their console ports. Cool Face

IMO what UBI (and many others) are doing reminds me of the events that led to the 80s videogame crash, back then it was bad games and lack of gameplay, nowadays its shitty ports that depend on aging console hardware for its benchmark and Uber-retarded DRM which basically gives you no control over your legit or otherwise gaming Very Happy just imagine sneaking your way in conviction(like it would happen...just hoping)and getting through some tight security and suddenly your net connection is down and BAM!the game quits back to the menu and all progress is lost.
Why dont they just be like Bethesda and let gamers decide what's worth it or not?

Too bad, I am sure I would have bought Settlers 7.

Isn't it a violation of your privacy if they know exatly when and for how long you playing the damn game offline? Its on your PC going over your net connection.

I'm curious even if they put it in their terms of agreement, wheter that's legal.
