I'm recently experiencing some somewhat strange things with my sleep/sleeping patterns.
Let me start with this - my GF wakes me every morning at 7:30 (she gets up about 25 mins before me), I get up about 5 mins after that. I go to bed at around 11-11:30, but no matter how tired and willing to sleep I am, I usually never fall asleep directly, it's mostly within 20-30 minutes, approximately (I can't be checking the clock all the time, but let's say it's somewhere around 15-30 minutes).
Now, the weird part is this - I wake up 1 to 2, sometimes, although rarely, 3 times during the night. Just wake up, it's like my current dream ends, and like a TV being turned off after a show, I wake up. Im aware that it's in the middle of the night/early early morning, and that I just wanna go to sleep again. Wich I do, eventually. But I can't help but think that this makes me a bit more tired over the day, cause I feel like I could be more alert and awake most of the time during a normal week.
And, say I go to bed at 12, fall asleep at around 12:30, I'm incredibly tired atleast up until lunch the day after. And then I'm just generally tired the rest of the day - one would think I'd fall asleep in like 30 seconds as soon as I go to bed. But no, it can take 20 minutes easily even then.
I'm not anxious or nervous, I'm not really that worried about anything, so I don't think it's that.
I do however have very vivid dreams. I don't necessarily remember all of them in detail when I wake up, but when I do wake up, it's like I've just watched an uninteresting movie, kind of. I know I've watched it, I can recall things I've seen.. It's almost like the moment I go to sleep, I don't REALLY fall asleep, I just "put on a movie". Kinda like i'm always aware, if i'm awake, I know I am, and I'm aware of my surrounding, and if I'm asleep, I'm aware of the dream environment and surroundings.. Hard to explain really :/
Actually, I'd like to sleep and NOT dream at all, for a whole week, just to see if it makes any difference, but I can't choose that, now can I. And I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night either, I want to go to sleep, then wake up when I'm actually about to get up.

Oh, and let me add - I use no tobacco product, I don't drink alcohol, I don't drink coffee or anything with caffeine in it, I don't take any pills or drug of any kind.

Sleeps a weird thing indeed...One year during summer break I started going to sleep later and later every night, until I reached about 6 am, at which point I think I made a full circle and simply couldn't go to sleep anymore, and had to wait until evening, even though I was awake for over 20 hours.
I suggest experimenting, try laying off caffeine, going to sleep earlier/later, maybe take a nap.

hhmm, interesting m8. Your lucky tho, 25 - 30 mins to fall asleep. I can goto bed at 11, and still be awake at 1.30 am, so thats over 2 hours trying to get to sleep, and when i do sleep, im awake within 2 hours, and this happens every night, and it takes another 30 mins to get sleep again. Im exact the same, i have vivid dreams, about 4 times a week. Some i can remember, most i cant, and it just fucks my head up for the rest of the day, especially if there bad dreams!!
im on 30mb mirtazapine, 100mg amitriptyline and 20mg stilnoct, and my sleeping is even worse!!! fuck knows how to make my sleeping better, im kinda giving up now!!

Well I'm glad I don't have to deal with that! But those pills, why do you need them? Could you do without?

What do you do during the day, the week ? Is it just up and go to school, study, read, hang out. Or do you also do some physical exercise, running, sports, whatever ?
I can relate to what you are going through, atm I also dream as good as every night, and its annoying me alot atm. Since I think that it would somehow sleep better without doing it all the time, maybe just wishfull thinking from my side

Sounds like you got your hands full already
It was just mostly some advice for _SiN_ since I thought we were around the same age, for you I would advice hitting the booze more often

Try 'power napping'. Around 2 pm, if you can spare that time try deep relaxation for 20 minutes. Basically you go to sleep but only for 20 minutes exact. You even have this program which generates soothing sounds which you can listen while you're napping (I forgot the name). Of course you can choose your time for napping, when it's best for you. It can help you sleep better at night...

i could sleep in the day, but i cant, cause im at work, lol  |
Yeah it's pretty hard at first, but once you find the time, and if you stick with it it can really benefit you.
The more you nap - if you routinely keep having naps for longer period of time - the more relaxed you get, so I guess you have to make a plan and stick with it

oh yeah know this state its lack of B-12 vitamin in your body mainly in your liver, if your body doesn't have enough of it your liver will replace it vitamin C and this makes you feel sleepy , feel tired all the time like your on zombie mode even if you had 12h of healthy sleep
the only cure for this is one pill a day of vitamin b-12 mixed with four pills of Cod liver oil that have vitamin A and D
and a diet of Red Meat (cooked but not grilled) mixed with Fish products (pastes , raw fish or other) with rice
this will help you get back your body to order

Generally speaking I think you should try to add some kind of exercise, doesn't have to be the gym or anything. I go for a 30-40 min run 3 times per week, it keeps me somewhat in shape, concentrate better and I fall asleep without any problems. When you're working 8-5 I think it's important to have some kind of exercise for relaxation and just "cooling down". I know people say playing games and stuff like that relaxes you but I don't really agree, I feel a lot better after some exercise. You should try it out, even if the problem is the Vitamin B12 deficiency which Spiderman wrote about.

Tiring your body before going to sleep is teh most simple answer, but it doesn't work for everybody and let's be real, no one wants to do it every freakin' day.
Are you eating prior to sleeping? A couple of hours before? If yes, your stomach will be digesting and that'll cause a lack of sleep. Any lights on in your room? That can disturb the sleep pattern, even very faint lights can be bad for some sensitive people.
Try not to think about shit, even mundane things can keep you awake. Concentrate on one meaningless thing, try to keep ererything else out. Most sleeping problems are caused by an overactive brain, the brain just can't 'hibernate' for example.
As for dreams, everybody dreams, you can't switch it off. Some people don't remember their dreams, but that doesn't mean they don't have dreams.

Yeah, as I already said in the thread, I'm at work then, and I don't think that would be very popular

We eat dinner at around 6:30 to 7 PM.. So it's not that close to bedtime, is it? And no lights on whatsoever, 'cause as you say, I hate even the tiniest little light, pitch black is absolutely preferred.
But the "try not to think about shit"-part is more or less impossible. I always think about shit, doesn't matter if im at work, trying to sleep, writing this - it's always something. It can be anything, ideas, memories, trying to plan things in advance - like I said, anything. I can only avoid it for a short period of time, and then I have to concentrate on it, wich only makes me concentrate on the fact that im concentrating not to think about stuff, wich ofcourse results in me thinking about shit..

Waking up repeatedly during the night, what was that again... apnea perhaps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea Apnea usually occurs if you are very fat and a bit older, but that might not be the case.
I've been thoroughly examined by neurologists and sleep experts to determine the cause of my unusual sleepiness, so I've read quite a bit about sleeping disorders.
If it's bothering you, I would discuss the matter with your doctor. In any case, physical exercise will always help. Taking a 30 minute hike will always help improve the quality of your sleep and mood too.
Good to read you are not doing drugs or any other caffeinated junk food by the way, because sooner or later those will deprive you of a healthy sleep. I believe sleeping pills (diazepam etc.) too aren't a long term solution, because they're addictive will affect your mood negatively.
