Apple didn't buy P.A. Semiconductor for nothing. And now the fruits of that buyout are appearing: The Apple iPad uses a 1GHz "A4" chip that can decode HD video for up to 10 hours on a single charge.
The iPad is packing a 9.7-inch IPS display, which is a type of TFT LCD that according to Stevesy has a "great angle of view." It's a full capacitive multitouch screen, like the iPhone, and also like its little (yet older) brother, it's got 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+, an accelerometer, compass, speaker, and mic, as well as the standard 30-pin connector. It's rated at 10 hours of battery life, which is absolutely nuts (and much better than we expected) for a device with a near-10-inch LCD, although who knows what the battery life actually is.

Every iPad is unlocked and comes with a GSM micro-SIM, so you can use it abroad, but there aren't any international deals in place right now -- Steve says they'll be back "this summer" with news on that front.
It starts at $499 for 16GB, 32GB for $599, and $699 64GB. Adding 3G costs a $130 per model, so the most expensive model (64GB / 3G) is $829. The WiFi-only model will ship in 60 days, and the 3G models will come in 90. |

No camera = fail.
Separate 3G data plan from iPhone plan = fail.
iPhone OS = fail. (would have liked something closer to MacOS, hopes for dual booting gone).
The rest is pretty slick though, was pretty excited for it but looks like I won't be getting into it after all.

The lack of camera sucks tbh, about the seperate data plan I would just sync my iPhone to the device through bluetooth and tether the shit out of my plan, the iPhone OS is heavily modified and I guess its okay since you gain slicker hardware and more battery life. I'm a huge comic book fan and would love to use the iPad for that!

I think I'm going to throw up at that video...
It does seem cool, but the cool factor is quickly overridden by the price for me.
I'll be interested to see how the e-books take off though, I've always wanted an e-reader (and yes, I know about the difference in displays between iPad and e-readers) and with added functionality like browsing the web, playing videos and games and so on it's got the recipe for success.

Thanks for bursting my bubble. There are many valid points in here. I was so excited about the ipad until i read this.
Many of the points brought up are deal breakers for me. To bad really, but i will wait for a tablet netbook with 3G.
Sry Apple, but this seems more like a gimmick than a useful product.
