The optimizer pack will ask four questions and install a launcher which will load a .dll file with the choices you've made (Dual-Core supported better, shadow distance range chooser or something like that, autosave and autosave frequency if I remember correctly.) and the fix-pack will install a modified keybinds.ini which loads a number of .lua files in the game engine with a keypress, can be used for debug purposes (Not enabled by default, "//" commented.) or to fix specific glitches and issues that might appear but apparently 1.02 shouldn't bug that much if I understood the post properly.

You ran those files with no probs? My antivirus was acting up when I tried running em.

They're clean but can be identified as trojans due to how they work.
(Similar to certain trainers and especially keygens.)

After 6 pages I still didn't get if the game itself (technical issues not withstanding) is any good... IF my machine manages to run it, is it worth checking out?

Common consensus is that it's fun and pretty good, so yes worth the try.

How do I open locked chests? I found half the moonblade and am in the copper mines now. I had those two guys demonstrate how to open locked doors (in the house where you find the moonblade) but I can't open any locked chests. When I click to open locked chests, it just says "locked" and she shrugs her shoulders.

You have to wait till u reach venetia; cant say more cause i will spoil somethings. leave them from now.
Also beyond optimization, this is a pretty decent action rpg, feels nice to play, loads of secondary quests and some nice touches. definetely worth a try.

From what I've read you'll get the skill later on (Might need to be trained or something first and then put points into.), probably you will need to return and open those chests then and they're not related to the story.

Hey I am about to go to venitia or whatever that town across bridge is. When do you find/get spears? I am saving all my upgrade points because I want to use spears instead of sword, but I want to know when I can get them and if they are good vs using swords.

u have shield with spears and you can block almost anything, but they are slow and do not do much damage. imo it's best to use hq sword with combos.
Spoiler: | anyone got the location for the blue ring to enhance my moonblade? |

Talk about broken f*cking game. I was fighting the first boss, the leader of the dervish assassins (the woman undead). In human form she was a joke. Then in the dream world or whatever it is called, I sliced off two of her tentacles. THen no matter what I hit, when, or where, she takes absolutely NO DAMAGE. I try to hit her tentacles, nothing. Her head when she lowers it, nothing. LIke she is completely invulnerable no matter what I hit and no matter from what angle/direction, etc. WTF? and yes I am using the moonblade.

God damn it.. the performance in this game is appalling :\ It's the first game since Crysis/GTA4 where I've had to turn DOWN the detail settings in order to get it playable (my version of playable, not you "14fps is smooth!! lololol" noobs )
In buildings it's locked at 75, but outside it's well spastic! Performance all over the place, facing certain directions gives full 75, facing others causes the framerate to plummet to low 20s. I had to turn detail from V.High to High just to get the framerate above 30 in situations like that. WTF? No AA, 1280x1024, and it still has shitty performance? Why? Christ, CRYSIS runs better
(oh and as to those saying "runs flawlessly on NVIDIA! LULZ!" I call BS. PCGamehardware has benches up of the game running horridly, even on high-end hardware)
... the game itself looks pretty fun so far though. Bit clunky, definitely needs polish (Deck 13, speaks for itself really) but fun!

The game engine is a bit unoptimized (It's called Ogre3D and seems a bit rough though very adjustable.) and with the 1.02 patch adding all these shader effects the performance is a bit variable and for some reason ATI cards take quite a hit with AA active, needs it's own profile hopefully ATI can work one out for 10.2 or something like that, runs OK without AA as far as I can say (Above 30 FPS though I guess 60 stable would be preferred for most people.) though I still use 2xAA to get some aliasing reduction. (Edge Detect and Adaptive AA also hit quite hard but looks a bit better, unsure how SSAA for the ATI 5000 series works but probably also suffers bad framerate despite how powerful those cards are.)

Perhaps you needed a weapon out and equipped instead of that little fire poker.
(Easy to look down on a simple weapon like that, until you stick it up the enemys rear that is.)
Or it might only be when in combat so you can dodge the current enemy?
(I'm not really that far in the game, been busy with other titles so I've only explored the area outside the starting village a bit, about to enter the mines and then the pass to the city of Venice.)

Could be the fire-poker thing, I dunno.

So does anyone know what is up with that woman assassin boss on the way to venice? Anyone defeated her in her twilight form? I could only chop off two of her tentacles and then she becomes invincible or the game broke, some bug.

Ya,I defeated her easily. You just hack off the tentacles one by one when they curl up.

Spoiler: | there is a short time where the tentacles are in a relaxed state after they attacked |
