I did the hostage ship after a few tries, solo, and - up until Lt Cmdr promotion - was the hardest space battle yet. Now EVERY battle is like that.

Woah, new patch is pretty massive. Just by logging on you can tell the game is more complete. AA is enabled again too.

Gotta say, the new redesigned interface is LOVELY.

.... oh and I found out from some helpful soul why I'm doing piss-poor damage in battle. It's because I now have TWO extra weapons, all firing at once, and it drains Weapon Energy VERY fast. I checked, and double-checked, and it turns out they're right; after a few seconds in battle, my Weapon Energy levels drop from 110 to 20-25. Worse is if I use my Beam Overload attack (SUPERMASSIVEAWESOMEWICKED DAMAGE!!!111) it completely drains Weapon Energy to ZERO.

Urgh.

Now I'm actually keeping a proper eye on my energy usage; RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPE Very Happy

Oh and scanning for anomalies actually WORKS now. Rather than just saying "There are three in this area" the scanning beams acts as a kind of compass and points towards them.

Sadly, they haven't fixed the Starbase 24 crash yet.

Fleet Action rewards are nice though.

I crashed once trying to enter that base, but the 2nd time I tried it - it worked fine.

what i want to know is, this is Cstudios on the last mmo/rpg thingy they released they did not bother to make payment options to span all areas and all types.. They left it to mainly cc's only.. which is fucking gay...

STO has this on the homepage;

Quote:

Q: What payment methods are accepted by Cryptic Studios?
A: Cryptic Studios is currently accepting Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal as payment methods worldwide. In addition, Discover Card is accepted in the United States. We continue to expand our payment options worldwide, stay tuned for more in the future!

After a few hours playing earlier, I'm HAPPY to say my initial beliefs have been shattered. I had no bugs (well, Resource Battles are still glitchy for me. I finished the same one twice and didn't get a completion award or reward), great performance, no crashes... this new patch really IS a wonder patch. My desire has increased again.

After heavy playing for a few days i wont be wasting my money on this , far too many reasons to list to be honest and i really wanted to like this game too. Then i read the monthly/yearly/lifetime subscriptions and i definately wont be buying it , a complete ripoff , such a shame, then again most will probably get fucked over when they decide to release a sequel ala l4d that or the company will go bust.

MMOs don't get sequels, they get expansion packs. And those are more than welcome. The monthly fee isn't any higher than every other MMO.

It's a MMO, what exactly did you expect in terms of subscription? Ripoff? Lol.

And in what world does releasing a sequel for a MMO make any sense? They would just draw same subscriber base from one game to another.

So go back to your shed.

i certainly would buy it without subscription and better single player, but it's no fun to pay every month for a not finished PVP experience ... really not worth it ...

yeah but big scale fleet pvp battles are awesome and the single player is just shoot em up or investigating boring stuff on boring planets nobody cares about

Agreed, but that could be different in six months or one year.
As it is now, i would play 3 or 4 hours a week and that's not worth the subscribtion but i've got the feeling that this game will improve a lot.

With Mass Effect 2 being such a let down I think I just found my new best friend with STO, I am enjoying it no end especially since the massive patch which improved things 100%....

Look for:

Harcourt Fenton Mudd of the USS Victory.

I pre-ordered on Steam and I've been trying it out for a couple of days and I must say I'm positively surprised. So far it's a lot of fun. I really like the space combat and I just hope PvP will be as intense as EVE online. Maybe, just maybe I've found a game to rival EVE Online for a bit. Although I doubt it I'm going to give it a shot.

I was wondering if anyone knows what the endgame content is going to be like ?

Also, I haven't been able to play the game for more than 4 or 5 hours but it looks like the levelling up is going to be pretty repetitive (go there, kill x ships, beam on station, kill y guys, scan some stuff and so on..); so my question is: does that change once you advance in levels ? (I'm only Lt grade 4 or 5 I think).

I like the game but it doesn't have the "thrill" like WoW had... But then again, maybe I didn't play enough.

Any advice ?

It basically stays the same, though there are some pretty huge quests that span multiple sectors once you hit Lt-Cmdr. Oh and Fleet Actions/Ground Wars too.
