Not usually, but yesterday was especially bad. Mostly on ground missions (which seem bugged to fuckries) as it's just my ship that beams down, or me without my away team. Some of the missions are damned near impossible without your away team.

I had to do the Starbase 24 ground mission. And I sit there without my away team, without a team, without anything. So I abandoned the mission got myself a group and managed to get it done with them Very Happy

I was doing the Ferengi theft mission (can't remember the exact name, but it was one where Ferengi had stolen a shitload of explosive compound from a research center) The space battles were fine, piss easy in fact, but beaming down to the station to grab the explosives back? GOD DAMN THAT WAS FUCKING HARD.

When I'd been killed (by mobs that were +5 levels on me) for the umpteenth time, I quit, closed the game, raged a bit, then went back in and LO!! my away team beamed in with me and we waltzed through the mission.

Yeah, usually when I see my ship on the ground, after a while I become myself but no team, and no call reinforcement button. I think all this can be more or less tied to server malfunction/slowliness. When everything is smooth and fast (in the Italy morning), the bugs never shows up.

I'm quite hoping about the server upgrade they're supposed to be doing...

So I can solo ground missions fairly easy now with both my engineering and science officers kitted out as medics (The shield recharge for engineer and Medical Tricorder for science).

Almost Lt. 8, not far til I get my real ship now.

Oh, and yes, the loading as ship on ground and vice versa is because the servers are very busy. Early in the day the game works without a single problem, but later on when all the americans log in, things turn pretty bad.

it's really annoying you have to wait for a PVP in a queue and after the battle ended you have to wait AGAIN until you can warp out

Server just went down, so hopefully they'll be integrating the new server or applying patches to fix some of the INSANELY broken shit in the game.

.... oh and whatever you do; do NOT mention the bugs in the chat channel. You'll be flamed to hell and back by the hardcore Cryptic fanboys. Cryptic will DEFINITELY fix every known bug in the remaining ten days before they start taking your money, honest!

I love my Tribble, it's helped me LOADS during the numerous times I've beamed in without my away team (read: almost every single fucking ground battle so far!) -- it's hilarious when bridge officers use them too, as they GROW in size each time.

I *think* I just encountered my first hacker Laughing A bunch of us were doing some grinding for SP in the open-instance battles, and some dude came in with his Light Cruiser (the starting ship) and started taking out full Flagships, Battleships and Cruisers in about 3-4s. No torps or mines, just two cannon blasts. We were EXTREMELY impressed, so we asked him what weapons he was using; he showed us a pair of Mark 1 Dual Heavy Cannons (153DPS with 45 degree arc)

.... there's no way in hell those puny weapons could EVER do that much damage to ships of this class and size. I mean, a whole bunch of us were firing away at these Battleships, launching Quantum torpedoes and Quantum mines, firing our own phasers and disruptors (beams or cannons, take your pick) and doing NOWHERE near as much damage as this dude.

When we kept asking him how he does it, he eventually just laughed and said "I chose starship combat traits at the start" and then jumped out. Call me nuts, but it's just not possible with those class of weapons on that class of ship -- so he was definitely doing something nefarious.

It has to do with the order in which you pick skills (I believe). Cryptic is aware of it - will they fix it before release? Who the fuck knows.

I've played a bit more, and I love the IP and concept behind the game and am still very iffy on the follow through. I refuse to play anymore before release, I really don't want to bore myself of it in beta.

Yeah, I've been playing for days and I love the idea and the setting... it's just the execution that needs drastic work. Will this be ready in two weeks for the launch? Not a fucking chance Laughing

Every time that happened to me, wating an extra minute or so made my officers load in with me.

Mine never load in that game session, not even with the command "/FillPetTeamlist" as said by a dev. If I don't get away team, I have to beam out and try again. Repeatedly.

Think I'm going with a science vessel. Highest shields sounds pretty nice. Targeting sub-systems should also be pretty cool.

Why "E"? If it's your second ship called Ragnarok, then it should be "A". Smile

Yea I have that one right now. Its fairly cool with all those new abilities, the problem is they take your eyes away from the shields so you often end up with some shields completely gone. Very Happy

+1

I cannot actually believe that the graphics are so dated while everything else has been implemented so well.
Its like going back 8 years and playing the most amazing game ever.

Aw c'mon, the graphics are not that bad, especially considering it's an MMO. I feel everyones pain about the bugged away missions though. It's especially harsh when you have just fought your way through 6 fucking cruisers to get to a planet without your team, and if you beam straight out to fix the planet bug you have to do the fight again. It's not as if you get much XP for them at lvl 15 either. And as for the 'request reinforcements' button, it's nearly always absent.

As the game stands now, I'll be giving it six months before I even consider parting with any money. I want to see if it's still as popular and they have fixed the game-breakers, plus added the content they originally announced. Do you think six months is a bit optimistic...?

Somewhat - its a game that needs a lot of work still. It depends on how much of the money they make they want to pay developers. If they keep the full staff around and extend contracts, you could see dramatic improvements in 6 months. This is part of the reason I bought the game. I really do want to enjoy it, so I'll play and invest my money and time in hopes of it becoming better. We wont see another Star Trek MMO for a long time, so I'm hoping this one does well long term.

I hope it does well too. I'm a bit of a closet Trekkie and love the game, flawed as it is (understanding it's still beta, naturally). I respect you putting your money in now and see why, the more they get in at release the more resources they can throw at the game to make it better.

Having said that, there are rumblings about the developers, specifically their lack of concern/support for that 'other' MMO they are running, hence my reticence. Considering however that STO has had just short of 210,000 beta downloads from Fileplanet alone it's probably safe to assume it's going to do well. Let's hope the dev's live up to the expectations of such a huge crowd.

No pressure guys!

personal log:

I happened to agree with the comments on avoiding a bugged launch product but concluded that I'll be monitoring events closely in the hope that in the very near future a stable, bug-free game will evolve.

Order to galley: no more venusian sprouts to be served in the Officers Mess, the resulting gasses have incapacitated the entire bridge crew, Ohuru may never recover.

end transmission.

So it seems this game has memory leaks in ground combat. I've noticed quite a bit of stuttering while playing it, but it wasn't bad until now. It crashed with the Cryptic error reporter. Then I noticed the yellow exclamation mark in my taskbar, telling me that my virtual memory is low. Now, there's no way this game requires more than 6 GB of RAM and a 6 GB Pagefile.

Aye, same thing happens to me all the time lately Sad I've had the CrypticError tool come up WAY too much for comfort, and it often fails on sending the minidump file - so instead tries to send the full memory dump; all FOUR GIGABYTES of it.

*growls*

Personally? Make ground combat entirely optional. The space combat is more than enough to sell the game to me =)
