Oblivion (3 years old game) looks much better than Rage. Animations are lacking, but otherwise I think I'd prefer that.

I think nobody cares about DX10 But DX11 is where it all is now lol.
But yeah, way to shoot yourself in the leg with a bazooka, supporting only 5 year old crap.

I agree with Leo, cue the future of gaming video
I'm quite annoyed with the direction some companies are moving today, theres just too big an audience on the 360, so we'll have to get used to dx9 until after Microsoft releases their next console.

any new's about the release date?
shame that there are many "forbiden" or none complete projects that makes the audience exite, and after a while, no word about it:(
i think we shou'ld sue this developers
(i am not saying that this is the case with rage, but i think that developer that respect himself should drop every now and then info about he's game process, a specialy when a new year begin and the game been announce year+ ago;)

Those screenshots must be from the console version...Not that I'm saying that they look ugly, but they don't exactly impress like Id games used to do.

They use this "Mega texture" tech for the world which makes it look quite unique (Texture isn't repeated or such I think it was.) but it's very high-res (Similar to what Quake Wars used one really large landscape texture.) which probably means the rest of the game is very optimized and ID is targeting consoles first and foremost (As is Epic and many other studios now.) so texture resolution in general is a bit low-res.
(Next-gen consoles should really have 1GB RAM plus another 1GB or so for system RAM in general, current stuff is like 256 MB plus 4 extra and 256 MB for RAM for X360 and 512MB for PS3 shared between the system and GPU or something like that.)
This can be seen in pretty much any title along with other optimizations to tweak more important visuals, low level of detail and draw distance in UE3, heavy streaming (Useful but some titles overdo it with very aggressive culling or what it's called.) lower resolution textures for misc objects and we're still mostly stuck with DX9.
(Not that it's bad and developers are very familiar with it now and can get a lot out of it but DX10 and 11 does bring many interesting optimizations and additions, if nothing else this would optimize memory usage and improve performance when extras like tesselation isn't used.)

Only cutscenes or prerendered stuff imo, no real gameplay yet. The history repeats itself, cuz there was no gameplay videos before Doom3 release either=bad gameplay.

# Graphics that have to be seen to be believed – Powered by id’s cutting-edge new id Tech 5 engine, new Megatexture technology brings the vast wasteland to life in never-before- possible detail with action running at an astounding 60 frames per second.
Spoiler: | |
I'm fairly certain they're 360-screenshots though (due to the low res texturing).

Not just by the sentence. The entire game is clouded by fail. Game is released in 2011, and is supposed to be a showcase for a new engine by id, yet the engine only supports DX9? Or the fact that models look bad - as in Doom 3 plastic bad? 2011 game for fuck sake.

Well, to be honest, even 2005 games have managed to render models without the plastic shine. UE3 is from 2006, and it looks very dated these days, yet models look a lot better than this. We'll see - maybe they'll fix their shaders by the release in 2011.
