I got a question about the first game. I'm playing it again, and the Mako is driving me crazy. Traversing the terrain is sometimes such a bitch. Isn't there a way to get those thrusters working longer than two seconds?

Sadly no. I've not even seen a mod or trainer for it The only Mako-related cheat is for infinite health.
If you want to collect everything the maps have tho, you could just check the resource etc. locations online and save you the hassle of trying to find them by driving around.
Most of the time they aren't that hard to reach if you know where they are.
Screw OXM. I've just read an indepth preview in my favorite mag. Shortly, it's going to be darker, almost all the complaints for ME1 have been heard and the RPG elements have been tweaked. Bioware has also heavily tweaked the UE engine, shortening loading times and upping the framerates. They do point out it's leaning more towards the shooter side now though.
Yeah I read both and I enjoyed them. I liked the first one better mostly because it was about Anderson and as such had a stronger connection to the game, and I always wondered what the history between saren and anderson was exactly. it's explained in detail in the book.
The second one was also pretty good but there weren't any characters from mass effect.
It has several connections to mass effect 2, such as the Omega station and Cerberus, which will both play a large role in ME2 I guess.
I'm sure there are better scifi books out there but if you're interested in the mass effect universe then those 2 are definitely worth checking out.
Likot Mosuskekim, Woodcutter cancels Sleep: Interrupted by Elephant.
I found Oblivion boring and feel betrayed because Morrowind was the reason I flunked out of Computer Engineering, stealing 2 years of my life. Oblivion didn't even hold me up for 2 weeks and did absolutely nothing towards my Computer Science transcript. lol
I laugh at the folks saying the game is "ruined" for them (without having played it), and they want nothing to do with it. Yea right. You'll download it, play it for an hour, hop on the forums, complain that it meets exactly the disappointment you went in knowing it would, and proceed to finish the game so that you can effectively argue the games low points when asked to do so.
Mass Effect 1 was about as much a roleplaying game as KoToR and Darksiders is - which is to say not much. It was an action game with a refined character development system. That alone does not make a role playing game. It has role playing elements; shoe horning it into "Oh man its an RPG" and then complaining when the game is streamlined further away from this RPG idea, is ludicrous. And yes, I am well aware the game designers are touting it as an rps experience. Of course they are - why wouldn't they. Better to label it with as many genre/niche tags as you can to entice consumers who would be otherwise uninterested in the game.
I personally, am looking forward to ME2, as ME1 was a quick breezy, non-groundbreaking, exercise in sci-fi fantasy with a cheesy story, cheesy characters, and a cheesy conclusion: just like how I like my sci-fi.
Where can u read the novels? Or do one need to buy em?
I bought the first one when it came out and downloaded the audiobook of the 2nd.
But I also got the pdf of the first one so anyone PM me if interested.
Don't expect any hard sci-fi from them, you get an ok to good action story and some background info on the Mass Effect universe, so hardcore fans won't want to miss it.
And like Surray stated; from the 2nd novel you get some info about Omega, Cerberus/Illusive Man and most importantly the Quarian Migrant Fleet.
And to WHEATTHlNS the story of ME1 is not cheesy, in fact the with the Prothean AI Vigil was one of the best moments in recent video game history only surpassed by the finale of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The PC Gamer review of ME2 is out already it got 90% but so far I couldnt find any scans.
would be thankful if someone posted them here kthx
"you no longer have an inventory. its been replaced by a more abstract system, similar to a pure action game. Instead of loot drops abd containers full of equipable gear, you find technology pickups that can be researched on your ship to unlock new weapons."
"Also gone are equipment mods, replaced by castable abilities.... The miserably clunky inventory system of ME1 is no longer a problem, although the new weapon load-out and research interfaces aren't great either."
"character development(skills) has also been culled down to six or seven upgradeable skills for shepard and just four for companions. Has ME2 been dumbed down? Yeah abit, but these changes don't make it a worse game than its predecessor; it just haas some different priorities this time around,"
"Where Mass Effect 2 completely won me over was in the amazing climacitc mission, easily one of the best game endings i've played in recent years.
" The charm and intimidation skills that unlocked special conversation options in the first game have been melded into the Paragon/Renegade system, which now unlocks options based on how much of a swell guy or jerk you've been. "
" The way Paragon and Renegade points are handed out could have been better, however. Often you're dealing with an issue so ambiguous that either path could be seen as good or bad, and when I'm trying to be a good guy it awards me Renegade points without telling me what it was that I did to earn them. "
" The levels are attractive, but a bit blocky and workman like. Some have inexplicable waist-high barriers that pop out of the ground when combat begins to provide cover. It's so contrived it feels like an in-joke for cover-based shooter players. "
" But each has two character specific missions : one to recruit them and one optional personal that exposes their backstory and unlocks a special skill and new outfit. "
"you must make difficult command decisions that put the lives of your crew on the line, knowing that the game is totally willing to kill them off at any time if you make a wrong move. it ends on a high note that leaves us exactly where bioware want us: primed and ready to import our characters into ME3."
"Unless you're really rushing through, the majority of time is spent chatting and calling the shots, helping shepard talk his way out of a lot of dangerous situations and into a several pairs of sexy, form-fitting pants. this is where bioware really excel. (the pants? - prod ed.) the writing is sharp, fleshing-out the universe established in the first game by letting us explore the complex web of tense inter-species relations"
"its almost too many, given the way the game all but forces you to swap them in and out, and it comes dangerously close to making them feel disposable. but each has two character specific missions: one to recruit them and one optional personal mission that exposes their backstory and unlocks a special skill and new outfit. their characterisation makes you feel attached to at least some of them."
"While bioware have done a wonderful job in tying up the story between both games, there are a few holes in the continuing story that shepard could drive a fist through: there's virtually no mention of the spectres, the agency that governed shepard's actions in the first story. no active spectres show up, and shepard may or may not be a valid member of the inter-stellar superagent club himself this time round. its also strange that the alliance government that dominated the galaxy in the first game plays such a small role in the second, and makes no effort to stop Cerberus or capture the illusive man. but i'd still rank ME2 as better written, better acted and better looking than all but the very best of the past decade of science fiction television and film."
"you no longer have an inventory"

Don't wanna judge a game before I play it but the abovementioned compels me to say:
"Go fuck yourself Bioware."

So do I - and it sure as hell isn't me =)
I've wanted this game ever since the end of the first one. I STILL want it and I'll STILL buy it. The only difference is now my desire has tapered off significantly due to the "streamlining" bullshit that EAWare are doing, merely to appeal to the braindead masses that want another Gears of Bore.

This. But be careful what you say mate, sadly the moronic GeoW crowd far outnumber us and they'll swarm all over you with their butthurt bullshit
In ME3 Shepard will have gained 200lbs and ME's journey towards the Darkside will be complete. Rise, Lord Shepard Fenix.
I already bought it, because personally, I thought the first game was lackluster. It didn't know what it was trying to be and failed in that regard. Plus I was feeling a bit depressed and I tend to waste money when I get depressed. >___>
All in all, I believe I'll enjoy it more than the first game, since my expectations are of a space opera game. As in the cinematic conversations and the like. Hopefully the combat isn't as boring as Gears of War. Ugh.
just pre order my copy from Steam yesterday {Normal edition,the special edition is not interesting}
first Bioware game I ever paid for, finally going to play Bioware game since MDK2.
