Characters are now able to use any weapon their class is trained for at full effect, meaning the player is no longer required to or able to invest in weapon skills
"Dr. Pepper" DLC details, affects some other games as well, odd but has happened before (Coke Zero bonus stuff and exclusive Avatar demo for example.).
Need to start my year shopping list
it's a quite some time I didn't buy any game{since Novmber, last one Was MW2},I might Start with this game, there is quite good games worth money this year that are going to be out,it might be the year I will spend some good cash.
I'm a bit out of course of things here, but heard/read somewhere you can import your main character with all talents developed from ME into ME2. Is it true? I mean i can continue playing the second part without the need of starting a new character and use my old one?
They will be erased, you can even redesign your old character if you want to (change appearance, class, etc). The only thing that will go to ME2 are the story choices. They said it was neccessary because of the radical redesign of the combat system.

Decisions confirmed to have an impact on the game include:
* The decision to save either Kaidan or Ashley.
* Whether or not the player kills Wrex on Virmire.
* Whether or not the player decides to save the Citadel Council at the end of Mass Effect.
* The player's choice of love interest.
* Whether the player spares or destroys the Rachni Queen at Peak 15.
* The player's treatment of Conrad Verner.
* Whether or not the player completed the UNC: Asari Diplomacy sidequest.
* Whether the player chose to allow the Alliance to conduct experiments on Nirali Bhatia's body.
Due to massive gameplay redesign, your level will not transfer over to Mass Effect 2 and you will start out with basic abilities. However, the game will acknowledge if you were a level 60 character and if you were a Renegade or Paragon and adapt it in ways that map across to the new system. Also, the physical appearance and class of imported characters can be changed at the start of the game, if desired.
Oh dear. Just finished reading that ME2 article and I must say; my desire for this game just plummeted about fifty percent. Looks like Bioware removed almost all the cool RPG elements, even the fact you no longer get any kind of loot or bonuses from fights, and instead it's now just a huge shoot'em'up with some story and "missions"
They probably reasoned with EA - they will be allowed to do a project they feel is great (even focus more on the PC version) - and then develop a streamlined Gears of War clone.

I am Sabin's extreme sad face
Who cares, DA series is for RPG elements. ME always been nice action game with great story, and a bit of roleplaying - talking to characters, making choices and whatnot. I don't see any of these elements missing in ME2, which is great. So I am quite happy, especially if they really removed loot. I don't think loot defines if game is RPG or not
wow. I had no idea they were crapping all over mass effect like this. I really hate all this mainstreaming thats going on. I went from being pretty damn excited that I'd get to play ME2 before the month was out, to really not giving two shits, in about five minutes.
jesus fucking christ, another dev i used to swear by, gone.
What the hell are you guys all mad about. The game looks amazing. Its a honor for it to be like Gears of war because gears is an amazing game it self. I personally cannot wait and am happy it has more shooter than rpg elements.

Good for you, I hope you enjoy it.
I will not, but would have if not for all the changes they had made.
I don't really care about the MEAGER RPG elements of the first game anyway. It was cool dialog/story and great characters with some easy combat action inbetween.

There you go, a prime example why they streamlined it.
Sad but true Gamers with brains just don't exist any more, not from this generation anyway. Ah well. Here's to games that actually required you to think;

Lets just wait and see for ourselves. The thing I care most for is the story anyway. The RPG elements will be missed for sure, but after the events of ME, Shepard and his crew should already have some pretty strong skills. There is no real need for them to begin at noob lvls anymore. Which could only be explained through some kind of accident and memory loss, that would have affected the whole crew. (Kinda like the beginning of Gothic 2) And thats unrealistic in a way. (I know its a scifi game)
I just hope the game is not too short and has a lot of room for exploration, better side-quests and a revamped control system for the Mako bug(gy).

Actually i like this decision. I just recently replayed ME1 to create a transfer save and boy i was annoyed by the enormous ammounts of useless loot that i had to plow through and convert to gel. Remember there were really only 4 weapons in ME1. ME2 is going to have 19 different weapons that can be upgraded at the Normandy.
It's better to have too much choice than no choice, IMO. Do you complain about Diablo? Or Borderlands? There's really only "four weapons" in those games too, just a million-odd variations.
Not to mention the complete gutting of the character progression and levelling
