false alarm, it worked after some tips I saw on the official forums =)
thanks anyway.

its really fantastic game, the graphics doesnt matter much really. I mean, its a rpg, imo atmosphere, story and gameplay is always more important in rpg's.

Well, I just finished my first play through of KotOR 2, and am posting my thoughts. I'll keep this SPOILER FREE apart from the one gripe I have listed as 4. on the bottom. I put big letters and everything to let ya know Razz

I finished in approximately 45 hours (give or take). I did most all the sidequests, though I missed 2 or 3 I think.

This game beats the original in every way except for two categories: bugs, and the ending (at least the one I saw). More on that later.

The story in this game is absolutley phenomenal. I was engrossed the whole way through, start to finish. Those writers deserve to win a fuckin award.

Character story is a mixed bag in a respect: If you don't play with certain characters, you actually learn very little about them. The ones you do adventure with however are very well fleshed out as far as background/belief/morales go. You really feel like you KNOW them after a while.

The romance subplots (while they didn't go as far as I felt they could have), were well incorporated. I developed a real respect for my bitche....err women. (Hey, they bow to me...I can call em what I wish Razz )

Now, my two major gripes.

1. The goddamn motherfuckin fast dialogue bug. For some reason, at certain points (random), the dialogue would enter hyper fast mode. As in it would scroll by in a tenth of a second, leaving you with no idea as what the fuck was just said. The ONLY remedy to this was to quickload, or if this didn't work, exit the program and come back. VERY distracting, and happened to me at least 20 times during the course of my adventure. Anyone been able to isolate/fix this?
2. Some cutscenes wouldn't have sound. It was only 3 short ones, but they were totally mute. Its as if they forgot to include the sound files for the movie cutscene. Anyone experience this or just me?
3. Had 3 CTD's in 50 hours. Not horrid, but still fucked me over once. 3 is 3 too many.

4. This is a biggy. It involves the ending, and my opinion of it, but I will not go into detail save for its flaw (Dark Side Ending).

*POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING* *NO SPECIFIC DETAILS MENTIONED, BUT STILL MAY NOT WANT TO READ (ending flaw mentioned)* Highlight to be able to read easier.

All I will say is that I was extremely disappointed with the ending. Its as if they totally rushed it. It just stops, with no resolution, nothing. Its like a slap in the face after ~50 hours of playing, expecting to be rewarded by at LEAST a cool cutscene, or some final dialogue with your friends or SOMETHING. Nope. NOTHING.
Whoever was responsible for bringing about an ending such as this one needs to be castrated and exterminated. Purged from the gene pool. A big FUCK YOU to you my friend. May you rot in hell. It just totally marred what was otherwise a phenomenal game. I almost cried.

*END SPOILER*

However, I have hope (albeit slim), that the Lightside ending may be more.....full/rewarding. Going in for my second play through now. Goodbye another 3-4 days of my life.

Overall though, I'd give my left arm to be able to forget the past 3 days, and be able to play it through from the beggining with no recollection of the story.
Those were 3 days of total bliss, and some of the best moments in gaming (from an rpg prespective), I have ever experienced.

In my opinion, what makes this series work is first and FOREMOST the STORY. Gameplay and graphics remain much unchanged, but a new plot is all that is needed. They delivered in this department.

9/10
-.5 for BUGS
-.5 for that shitty ending.

Holy shit you FINISHED it?!

Jeezus man...well good review nevertheless, I'll try to enjoy the game itself instead of rushing towards the end of it to see what happens if the ending sucks.

I've noticed that skipping dialogue bug, it happens fairly often too, what a horrible bug to leave in a RPG, espiecially one that puts dialogue above all else.

You can go into your dialogue log to check whats said I think, I havnt tried this because I'm only a few hours in and I've never missed anything important, but I'm pretty sure it logs everything.

You know what's sad?

Here is one of the fixes listed in the 1.02 patch for KotOR 1:
"Fixed a problem which would cause dialogue to skip through without playing any VO. "

And they didn't fix it in the sequel.

Man.. This still is The Game to play. Must buy for me.
I wish they would make more games like these..

Have a story - BOOM! You have a seller
Have great graphics - BOOM! You have a seller
Have a good gameplay - BOOM! You have a seller

Combine 1 thru 3 and you have a MegaBuck.
This game does 1. and 3.
I only hope ppl will buy this.. For PC that is.

Technically the game is a big disappointment! I can't believe how obsidian could screw this up. I can't remember a single crash from Kotor 1, but Kotor 2 seems to be a beta. Even old bugs wich have been fixed in patches are back. How could they actually produce more bugs in a stable engine. The game crashes from time to time, party members disappear after the game loads a new area, sometimes party memebers are "teleported" out of the game and stand in the air, other times you can't walk forward because there is something like an invisible wall in front of you.

Obsidian, you folks should take some programming lessons, i recommend the book C++ for dummies and computers for dummies, lesson 1: How to turn on your computer... geez Evil or Very Mad

ATI FIX

If the performance of the game is really bad just unpack and copy files to the main directory of KOTOR II - it's opengl driver from catalyst 4.2. For me works great. It's not main solution. THX for that patch!!!!!!

Hm, i havent had much bugs at all actually, just the ocassional invisible wall, partymembers disappearing and such. Nothing mayor though and not at all common. I beat the game yesterday and biggest complaint is the story and difficulty. The story seemed nice to start with but weakens alot around the middle of the game and, without spoiling it for anyone, the end isnt all that fabolous, no big surprises like with Revan in kotor1. And as i said the difficulty is a joke, i played as a dark side jedi guardian at Difficult difficulty and if you know where to put your points from kotor1.. well, it gets silly. Carving through everything, oneshotting most enemies and pretty much not taking a scratch. The various bosses start a dialogue in style with "Bwahaha i am the ultimate sith lords evah! You have no chance weakling". Then you kill them in two-three combat rounds. Totally removes the intensity and fear for bosses, no strategy needed. In kotor1 i most times had to use a couple of adrenals, battle stimulants etc before i went in to a big battle but in kotor2 its totally unnecessary. Excluding the first 3-4 hours of the game i never had to use one medpac until the last mission, where you are solo. Feels very silly. Probably going to replay it as light side jedi just to see the different story, seriously considering doing it all solo or with just one partymember. Another flaw is, as with kotor1, that once you have (again, dont want to spoil) the jedi/sith partymembers to choose from the non-jedi ones becomes pretty much obsolete. While i am at it i think the random item generator is really tacky. Sure its nice when u get a few nifty items from some random mob but i didnt get one short lightsaber until the last level, much good that did. I also only got one (except the first one you make yourself) normal lightsaber. I did get like 6 doublebladed though. Thanks alot. Not very funny when you know for a fact that dualwielding is superior to two-handed.

Nice thing is that as a dark jedi, opposed to the first game, you really feel you have some power and you are driven to continue being bad. But honestly, as most other rpgs the main catalyst to keep playing is more items. Sad but true. You dont really care what happens as much as you did in kotor1.

Oh well, i still hope lucasarts comes out with a patch for all you people having problems, it IS a great game, just has its problems.

This is a good game but with some bad bugs. Turned off all overclocking made this one run better. Still got that 1fps bug on Dantooine from KOTOR 1 (!) Got to say that I don't find this gripping - the 1st one was better ;-(

WOW..just wow, perhaps I'm the only thinking so, but K2 is better than K1 in most aspects (except technical part...). Story is so intriguing, rich dialogues when unveiling the history of your crew, awesome gameplay. Totally adictive! Can't wait for K3 now Smile

Combat is to easy Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad, think you need to screw up your stats and play without teammates to get killed once in a while.
This game realy needed more beta testing, donno what they did since the x-box release, probably spending their profits at some tropical island. Releases like this makes piracy a deed of the light side.

Beta testing on KotOR 2 was non fucking existant. If you check out the obsidianent.com forums, you'll see tons of people (especially ATI users), have an unplayable game for various reasons.
Its been almost a week now, and not even a fuckin peep out of O.E.

Kinda off topic question:
Why the fuck didn't Bioware get development rights to KotOR 2 and NWN 2?

I dunno who the fuck thought it was a bright idea to give the series to these amature fucks, but it sure doesn't speak well of the future.
Bioware has proven that they are capable of fan/tech support (hell, the first KotOR 1 patch was released in what, like two days? to address unplayability issues). Been over a week now and O.E has yet to get off their fat fuckin asses.

Hey, what's this, they released a small patch. What's it do?
Why of course!!! It fixes the corrupted .pdf game manual for Euro versions of the game. Just what the fuck everyone wanted. Cause damn, we all know this is a title that you have to read every page of the manaul to succeed =)

Normally I wouldn't bitch...but I bought this title (original was very good, so figured a show of support would be worth it), and feel as though myself, among other people have been left high n dry.

Fuck these amatures, give the series back to Bioware.

Bioware is doing Dragon Age and finishing up Jade Empire, they are plenty busy developing their own games with no license restrictions, let these other companies have the games controlled by corp giants.
