I have a fat psp-1000 + a sony memory stick pro-HG duo 16gb,that I just upgraded to 2.8 and in the process of downgrading it to 1.5 and unlock the sucker, hooked up to a windows 7 ultimate X86 ,updated with the latest updates, machine on a p35-ds3r motherboard al drivers are up to date..
Now, I just upgraded the thing to 2.8, formatted the memory stick. restored the default settings, hooked it up to my machine using a usb cable (tried different ports as well as a different usb cable) but it will always ask to format the thing before I can use it!! my machine will not recognize the drive, thus cant run the downgrader.. If I remove the memory stick and hook it up directy to memory reader, it'll show up fine under windows as a 16gb memory stick. BUT if the memory is inserted in the psp, and hook it up through usb, it'll have to be formatted, said fu** it and formatted the thing, it'll only show 3GB memory stick and stuff, after formatting it in NTFS, WTF!! .. ran the downgrader, BUT now when browsing in the XMB to launch HEN280, it says that the thing needs formatting and crap, da hell with this thing man??
I'm gonna try something else, any input is appreciated..
EDIT: huh, it works now fine in 1.5 firmware, windows recognizes it fine
I just had to move the downgrader files to the MSpro through a memory reader and launch it that way, was worried something will go wrong, but it worked, hahaha
A question though, do I need to upgrade it to a newer firmware inorder to play newer games and stuff? or no need? 3.1?

Yes. The latest custom firmware release is 5.50 Gen-d3. You'll need this firmware to play most if not all newer games. You can also patch each game if you wish, taking out the firmware restrictions, but i think you still need at least firmware 5.00 to play those games.
