He's not the only one. I LOVED the voice acting in FFX, with the possible exception of Tidus - who was a whining little bitch with a horrid voice. The Ronso sounded great, Auron sounded great, Yuna sounded great, Rikku sounded great, Wakka sounded great (mainly because I love Bender Very Happy) Hell... the voice acting was awesome in that game.

... I just wish Tidus has have been someone else, or perhaps less of a whiner due to the script.

FFX is one of my all time favorite games - but I last replayed it early this year, and that reminded me that the voices really are so-so. Especially the Tidus/Yuna conversations, ugh..

Some are decent though.

I do not think they where that bad either. Except Tidus, he sounds bad...reminds me of that "laughing" scene, it made me cring. But other then that I think they voices where ok..I haven't heard the japanese ones though

Is there any information if the original japanese dub will stay?

that'S one of the main reasons I nearly didn'T play any JRPGs anymore. Englishdubs are so horrible (Star Ocean 4 for example; it gives me shivers!)

http://www.allgamesbeta.info/2010/01/chinese-game-magazine-gives-final.html

Scenario: 2.0 — "An epic tear jerker"

System: 1.0 — "Such a crude system barely warrants being called an RPG at all."

Graphics: 9.0 — "Full marks here."

Sound: 7.0 — "Mostly quality."

Enthusiasm: 1.10 "As if you could play this for 100 hours! I could put up with 8."

Overall: 4.0 — "You think its bad enough? It'll get worse!"

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/12/final-fantasy-xiii-preview-2/

The fact that the game is neatly divided into two-hour chapters should strike Final Fantasy fans as odd. It is. XIII isn’t a big, open, explorable world. It’s a series of discrete maps that you run through and forget about entirely, once you’re the hell out of there.

...

You can have up to three characters in your party, but only when the game says so. And here’s the real kicker: You only control one of them during battle, and you don’t even get to pick who that is. At least for the first 17 hours, you only control whoever the game tells you to, and the computer picks up the slack on the rest.

...

With precious few exceptions, the first 17 hours go like this: battle, movie, repeat. There are almost no towns, nonplayable characters to chat up, extra side missions, hidden sequences, fancy equipment to save up for and buy, or reasons to run around and grind enemies for extra level-ups. Heck, there’s no need to even wonder what to do next.

...

When I referred to previous Final Fantasy games as being “linear,” I was at least speaking metaphorically. Final Fantasy XIII is a straight line. Every level is one long Hallway of Death, and you run down its interminable length, never moving left or right, always running forward. There is always only one thing to do next, and it is always either fight a short battle or watch a long movie.

I hope its not as bas as that review made out.

But then since it became Square-Enix they havent made a good FF game anyways.

FF-X was the last decent game, X-2 was crap, XII was fucking terrible and the spin offs have all been poor.

what nailbiter posted: it's probably from a (western) guy who grew up with bioware (or similar western) rpgs.
famitsu: declared bayonetta as one of the best games ever made. Laughing

nuff said. both are written from two extremely different, if not biased viewing angles.

Well that's cured me of any desire for Final Fantasy XIII now. I won't even pirate it for the 360. Squaresoft is truly dead, Enix reign supreme.

very interesting and well written article. is it really such a bad thing to excessively streamline a game and force the player down a narrow path? after all, it's the most efficient way to achieve an engrossing cinematic gameplay experience. and as long as the gameplay holds up too, i'm happy. let's just wait and see how the end result will turn out. worst case scenario? a square enix movie where you have to press buttons sometimes Laughing

That's not the point mate. This is Final Fantasy, a bloody ROLE PLAYING GAME. What the hell is Final Fantasy *without* RPG elements? Nothing but a long story interspersed with some interactive fights that yield no reward.

it's not like they removed the rpg elements altogether, they just shifted the focus. i'm not trying to defend the dev team's decisions here - i'm actually quite anxious about how it will turn out and just try to look at the bright side of a (hopefully not too atrocious) game design experiment. Wink

Well my personal hype for the game is now lower than before - but I will still play through the game and give it a fair chance.

Update: that review you guys are getting so hard about was written by a NON GAMER, never played a game in his life let alone a rpg, a guy who actually HATES games.
The individual who translated the piece left the disclaimer out for some reason, you will have to decide for yourselves why he did as the disclaimer was obvious.

MGS4 just needs the difficulty turning up and the player to show restraint and make the decision for themselves not to kill anyone. In the past it was too difficult mechanically to play it like an action game - but now you have the freedom and choice. Funnily enough people picked the easy route and relied uponn their guns to get them in and out of tricky situations where stealth in previous games would have been the predominant method. MGS4 still has that layer of gameplay, it's just tempting to ignore it (or in the case of some people completely miss it!)
