In a move that drew significant criticism, Bono went on to suggest that the feasibility of tracking down file-sharers had already been proven.
"We know from America's noble effort to stop child pornography, not to mention China's ignoble effort to suppress online dissent, that it's perfectly possible to track content," he said.
Several commentators assailed both the logic of net monitoring and the economic arguments of the essay, pointing out that U2 topped 2009's list of top-grossing live acts.
"Bono has missed that even a totalitarian government...can't effectively control net-content," tweeted Cory Doctorow, a blogger and journalist noted for his study of file-sharing policy.
"If only greed and ignorance could sequester carbon, Bono could FINALLY save the planet," he added. |

when you buy a cd and you read that it can't be played in a PC and in a list of CD players and consoles and then it lists the desired Player brands i said FUCK THIS SHIT
then came MP3 DRM shit that you could only listen on desired MP3 player brands and listen to it only 50-60 times after that you need to renew a certificate ... FUCK THIS SHIT

i always knew bono was an idiot. But cheering for the chinese in a year where the movie industry has a record high in sales??? Not to mention that they make money from every movie at least in four different markets (cinema, tv, video rental, dvd), not to mention "colateral" earnings from merchandise, soundtrack-sales and similar...
bono, please die. The sooner the better...
edit: i forgot to mention the uwe boll system, where you also earn from movies that are made to fail at the box office

I agree that he doesn't understand the situation beyond the RIAA's attempts to prosecute people randomly, and he should have kept his mouth shut on the issue. His suggestion of tracking down file sharers is a complete circle back to the RIAA's nonsense, which shows his ignorance on the topic, however:

This is true and applies to all illegally downloaded content, and precisely the reason why the RIAA and others should be embracing technology, not policing it.

thanks for sharing that dude. it's long but something everyone who loves music should read. i didn't know how badly the labels screwed the artists until i read nikki sixx's heroin diaries. they really do steal from the artist. i'll be sure to pass this along to as many people as possible.
