Ok thanks, are you using something like this in order to use your ps3 pad on BT under Windows ? I just found out about that since I got a ps3 for christmas... It looks like a LOT of work to install... 'gonna try that if it's worth it, like you say.

@EwarWoo1 : yup I was using both in GTAIV times, pad for car handling/walking and mouse/keys for shooting sequences, depending on the context. I'll probably end up doing the same here.

@Citrone : hopefully devs of Saboteur will release unofficial patches like the devs of Vampire Bloodlines did (hopefully) Very Happy

OK guys, what car do you use to win the "street race". The one that you talk to the fat guy near the hideout, and then run by the Arc De Triumph (or whatever it's name is). He says that if you can finish in time, you can race in the country with his friends.

I've tried both racers that I have, and the best I can do (without hitting anything, and driving like a moron), is 2:00. So, what car do you use, and do you actually follow the "yellow path" to the end, or is there a shortcut or something that I'm missing?

This is the only thing left to do on my map, and I'd like to finish it.

Thanks!

Silver Arrow or what it's name was might work due to it's speed, needs to be stolen from a place first however, there's a map of collectible car locations posted a page or two back.

Otherwise infiltrate "Saarbrucken" or what it's name was and head to the race track and steal the "Altair" car, this can be problematic due to the heavily German military presence and checkpoint however but it's the best non-unlockable race car available.
(You'll also unlock a race car by finishing this trial run and two others by completing the other races first but that doesn't help here.)
(EDIT: Unless you have the two perk unlocking purchases still available.)

Silver Arrow is my car of choice lol. Especially since you have to steal it from the Nazi's Villa lulz (nice place to live haha).

silver dart handles like shit.
i used the altair that you get for collecting 5 civilian vehicles just fine in the street race.
you can also try to use the german bikes, as they are pretty fast, or any of the saarbruecken race cars, esp the beta romero 12c.

Do you follow the normal route, or do you take shortcuts? (By normal route, I mean the route laid out by the pseudo-GPS).

I used the Altair and finished first time following the yellow route. It helps using a 360 pad for proper controls of the car.

Just finished the main story and it was awesome. Saw some bugs here and there but nothing fatal or game breaking. The Saboteur just did most of the things right that annoyed me to hell in GTA4. IMHO much underrated. Too sad we wont see any more patches for this little gem. If you like free roam action adventures and did not try this one yet: GO! 85% from me. Hats off Pandemic!

btw a mod that replaces the nazi symbol with he EA logo would be nice Wink

Clocked some hours on it with reloaded rlz of last patch and the game has no strange behaviour whatsoever.. And oh boy, what a GREAT game it is!

If some of you havent tried this yet, plz do, its a real gem, one kind of mix of mafia+gta+ add some of the commandos ww2 atmosphere and great car racing around. Just great.

We need more of these.

(the mature content helps the atmosphere too) Very Happy

I just started playing after some comments saying it was pretty good, have to agree so far. Good game that was really over looked last year. Reminds me a lot of Mafia.

I would love them to maybe fix up Mercenaries 2 for a GOG release as the EA version was pretty much abandonware from day 1.

I don't want to spoil the party, but I'm pretty sure it was a while ago, and the game is still in incredibly rough shape with regards to getting it running on modern systems at the proper resolutions/no mouse acceleration etc.

I have the Origin version, and messed around with it a few years back - never could quite get it running properly. First it was a resolution issue where 1920x1080 wouldn't play nice, then it was an issue with mouse acceleration, and finally I just gave up.

Take a look at the GOG forums here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/the_saboteur#1659282581

Doesn't look liike the GOG one is in much better shape, unfortunately. Sad

Edit: Looks like somebody wrote a nice guide here, not sure if it's still valid though - https://www.gog.com/forum/the_saboteur/tutorial_how_to_run_saboteur_on_modern_multicore_systems_2021

The whole point of a GOG release of older classics, IMO, is that THEY put in the legwork to make it play nice with modern OS', saving the end user the hassle. They did a good job of that with Leisure Suit Larry 7, for example.

I don't think I really had any issues getting it to work last time I wanted to play it.

I played this in 2016 and I recall it ran fine and didn't need a lot of tinkering. (PCGW is your friend) The controls are a bit of a bitch to set up but it plays better with Mouse+KB because there is a lot of aiming and shooting.
When it came out the performance was horrible and even with a high end CPU of that time you got like 40-50fps at most. I never got far past the prologue and had it shelved for almost 7 years.
It's a nice 7/10 game, unique style, large world, plays well and story is interesting. Typical UE3 look but good visuals for its time.
Bit of a grind if you want to 100% everything because there is so much to destroy and collect.

Did they do anything to make it run nice on modern hardware or is it just a dump of the original?

Zero effort made to ensure this works on modern systems. Basically the same state it was in way back when - which is a shame. Also, no cloud saving to boot, despite the fact that some EA games that were added back had it. The one good thing is it's no longer bound to the EA App / Origin / 30th fucking name change of our platform here - runs natively through Steam. Very Happy
