Lately I've also been having a ton of read errors, which cause a game to crash to the dashboard. (Showing the 'clean disc with a cloth notice.') Can these be remedied by installing the game disc to the HDD?
Or is my 360 simply broken (AGAIN)?

I'm using the famously cheap Aritas right now... would switching to the expensive Verbatims really help?
Changing the burner could prove more difficult, I'm using the built-in burner of my MacBook.

| Strangely enough, yes! I was using mirror, had no problems for about 20-25 burns, then every disc started to fail all of a sudden. So naturally enough I think its the drives laser, but read on a forum that it might just be the media. So well, as im a cheap bastard I was like... hmmf, do I really have to buy these overpriced verbs; but well I did, and everyone worked flawlessly, so it was the media. Now I buy BenQ/Moser Baer, both made in India, it has the best success rate next to verbs. If your burn finish, it WILL WORK. But yeah, you might get failure with at least (but its rare) BenQ @ 50-51% (when it changes layer, but still much cheaper than verbs, so im happy Burned 130 games, 8 have failed. Not counting those stupid last Mirror DLs when I always got dirty disc error.

That cheapass attitude sounds familiar to me I'm getting the Verbs then. And the HDD too I guess

Well so much for the Verbatims then?

I burned it on a Verbatim Dual Layer and the disc doesn't even have a single scratch on it, yet, while installing the game, it says "cannot read the disc. The disc might be scratched, please clean it using a soft cloth'
WTF? |
Damn I was just about to order a stack of Verbs, but it seems I might just as well go for the cheaper Aritas?

Damn this primitive optical disc shit. Why can't you use a NO CD crack, like in the good old days of PC piracy.

You can, if you have a JTAG'ed machine running homebrew. There are already apps for installing to HDD completely, with no need for the DVD afterwards.

Basically only one requirement; you can't have updated your machine in, or since, June 2009. An update released then critically changed the boot loader, blocking the homebrew capabilities.

That's good news!
And the bad news about the good news is that it'll probably be very difficult to get working? So I'm off to do some further reading on this subject

Please forgive my tardy reply... I was having such a kickass time playing GTA4 off the HDD!
Man, it feels like a completely different game. The slow ass dvd drive made the game unplayable. Buildings and roads randomly popping in and out of sight; it was like a delirious bad trip from hell.
So I can confirm to all the other cheapskates without hard drives: get one now, and install your games.

Kudos to you, the Verbs have solved my read errors issue!
Previously I had to switch the Xbox on and off untill the Arita disc was accepted, which was really getting on my nerves. Especially when I also had to use the activation ISO, which would fail most of the time too.
I'm not getting any more of those cheap Aritas, those pink pieces of shit!
