RTS usually have more gameplay than fps
I mean you were immersed in the game! You can invade a whole western map in AOE and not even know the whole day passed you by. I hate the addictiveness these games provide but it feels so good to know that you, with limited resources, were able to take down the enemy.
It's just more fun But addictive and for me, just me, a large crash collection
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

This game should not be allowed to wear the title of "Settlers". Theres almost no connection to buildings, like in the old Settlers you have to connect numerous buildings to make one building work, this isnt the Settlers, its just a bad Settlers game. If you like medieval RTS, its fun

Well i got it ... and the game realy looks great and whit the nice music
and sound from the people ... and the differend wheaters.
It's a bit like the old one ... but i do miss that there are no borders
anymore ... the upgrades are nice but i do miss a lot of things from the older
versions.

microbi wrote: | well after "fixing" my comp I got this running smooth but - now as I have played more..this ain't "Settlers" more like Age of Wonders +"any gather resoursies RTS game". Seen so many of these type of games already - nice game but NOTHING new here.. |
no, any other rpg has a goal, superweapons, late tech tree units, SOMETHIGN!! This settlers has Nothing!, the most spectacular you can build are broadswordsmen ^^. and not even many either.
And no, there IS no connection between buildings other than the idiots that need a place to sleep and eat. It's just a normal tech tree (gotta build a clay mine and research that to get a brickworks).
They dont even do anything, just numbers popping up every sec for how much resources u get, they dont carry the stuff anywhere, they dont need tools, they dont need food, they dont need iron coal or whatever, they dont need any god damn thing, lol sry i hate this game so much, dont listen to me if u like it cuz then u'll just flame the shit out of me..
And it's like, the combat is so silly, fuck the bad RTS, it i'm going back to Rise of Nations and Starcraft!!
I can HIGHLY recommend Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic (empire builder) if u like a great long lasting game, played it since it came out myself. I hope u didnt mean that one, cuz that game is sickly good.

Well, I've played through mission 4 on the campaign thusfar, here's my take. Please keep in mind that this is from someone who played Settlers 2 very briefly (I agree, the resource ferrying was a very cool feature), but nothing since then (I missed 3, 4).
Music: The game's music is simply beautiful. It fits the feel and era of the game very well. Probably the game's strongest point that I've experienced thusfar. A+
Voiceacting: Well, the narrator is done well, however other npc's/characters range from decent to downright god awful. You can tell they used a cast of 4 actors max. B-
Graphics: Ehrm, not great, they get the job done however. I don't like the way they implemented the camera rotation technique (hold down ins. or del. and when you let go it pans back), its a pain in the ass and not very useful at all. B-
Gameplay: Confused on what to think here. On one hand, the pace and gameplay is very laidback and forgiving thusfar. You won't be rushing to crank out units to defend etc. This is the point where the old cool features of Settlers I think were meant to kick in. When everything is up and running smoothly, you've got nothing left till do till the event timer ticks down but look at static stuff. Would much rather watch the little guys go about their lives.
RTS wise its your basic tech build up, but very much simplified. No tactics here.
Overall it is enjoyable though ( for a certain amount of time). The non-hardcore gameplay/tactics just lets you kinda lay back and play without your adreneline rushes. Good game to relieve stress B.
Presentation: Again, I'm not sure what to think in this department. The ingame graphics are very serious / downtrodden looking. But the voice acting borders on the edge of child like appealing. The movies are presented in a 'ye olde medieval storybook fashion', and thus looks like they were either A. too lazy for some real effects or B. appealing to a younger audience.
To be quite honest I'm not sure what Bluebyte was aiming for in terms of market appeal on this one. You have one serious, one not so serious, and one childlike factor.
All in all though, I don't like the feel projected from this mix. C+.
Overall: This is your average RTS, minus the adreneline pump factor. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for.
For me, its enjoyable to play maybe a mission a day, but after that it becomes somewhat dull.
Thus, its not a GREAT game, its not a BAD game, merely AVERAGE in my opinion. They lost out with the "Warcraftication" of the title however. It seems as if they were scared of the present day gaming market, and decided to take the safe way out by doing what everyone else has done. No points for you there Bluebyte.
Ergo, final score: B-.
