Yes, of course, the pbp+the updater folder are useless after the actual updating.
EDIT: The Pandora battery options in the vsh menu are disabled/non-working, if anyone cares about that.

Yeah, I put it, seems to work fine of course, no huge problems, I've mentioned some minor problems earlier.
Also, it flashes your flash0, so all settings etc are lost. So vshmenu is disabled and you have to go in recovery and enable M33 or Sony, enable vshmenu, do the overclock and maybe usb charge option blah blah ... most noobs get pwned because they think their games stopped working, and even if they wanna check the vshmenu it's disabled 
Others try to update from B1 -> semibrick (GEN-FAIL)
Others have custom theme and afterwards the psp can't load, gets stuck, lol (noob-FAIL)
Others choose the second option in the updater and install the original firmware 5.50 -> MAINSTREAM'D
About cards I don't know, I use a cheap-ass fake sony 8gb from ebay. But it's a coin toss, I got another which was not working !

i do not see any advantage for upgrading. my 5.00 M33-5 is running everything and the gen fw has less features.

With M33 you have to run decrypted games, you can't run the normal isos, even then a few games don't work. Also, games with anti-CFW checks like Full Metal Alchemist and a few others don't work. GEN-D automatically patches them when detected.
But anyway, that's a few games that don't work on M33 one way or another, so you don't *need* to upgrade yet.
Most ppl miss the MS speedup option from M33, don't know how much difference that makes, maybe when running cso games, but anyway that will be included as well in GEN from what they say. What other features are missing ? 1.50 kernel addon ? The best emulators don't need it.

While it is abit of hassle to upgrade the whole time, it´s nice to see them continuing working and putting stuff out there.

I just updated to GEN-D2, works as advertized. Lame white screen replaced by lame red screen (only when the decrypter is needed)
And it is not a full firmware update, it's very quick, but resets settings (doesn't flash flash0)

Just updated! Its great! Now I can play Tekken6 unpatched! But coolest feature is now I click on 'network update' icon and it connects to the hacked servers for an updated! No more Sony PSP updates. Yeepee! Good job Team Gen!

Do you have phat psp ?
Also, I'm through defending team GEN, the guys have a lot of fail genes in their DNA, but if you wanna play as many games as possible (the new ones) then you have to get it. M33 is getting more and more outdated.
Make sure you flash the third release, that has "final" in the filename, they managed to fail twice in a matter of hours, their second failure resulted in me not seeing games on the xmb. At least they fixed it.

I have the PHAT PSP-1001 MOBO :TA081. The original
I had to re-flash the final version. Apparantely I installed the beta#2 version. It now says 5.50 GEN D-3 in system info (not FULL).
This is the final version file needed - xgen-550gen-d3-final_126099212
If you want to play the latest games, you need to upgrade. I never had any issues with any firmware released be it MM3 or GEN. So Im happy!

Too much shit with homebrew (yes yes, I know you claim to the contrary.. but I've seen it with my own eyes. Both on my own and a friend's PSP) but the most important thing is that their shit is fundamentally broken, necessitating a bunch of rapid and constant updates.
