Both got great games , if he plans to play online and his friends got a ps3 then get a ps3 if they got a xbox then get a xbox.
IMO both deliver great games and its only the exclusives thats in the way thats why I got both systems.

If he wants 360 exclusives get a 360, and if PS3 ones get a PS3. Pretty simple decision when there is no modding consideration.

And I think that most of his friends have a ps3... At least I'd assume that.
I'll tell him to get a ps3 then... I think the exclusives on that one are "more" exclusive :>

Hard to decide, but if it wasnt for Gears of wars. left for deads I wouldnt bother having a Xbox 360.

The only question is whether he'll flash it or not.
If he's planning on buying games, I'd go with a PS3 for the BR player.

Same as above, Would go for PS3. Bought 360 only because I couldn't afford ps3 + buying games.Would love ps3 because of the free online service and some awesome exclusives it has.

There is going to be a premium service for Playstation next year(EDIT: current online services will still be free). I also heard a rumour that games will be available to rent.. will be awesome if it's true.
To the OP question. I think it simply comes down to the exclusives on either console and which games he would prefer playing.

^^ wut? you can't rent PS3 games? sure I haven't been in a blockbuster for a good 4-5 years but that's pretty fucked.
Also, who really gives a fuck about exclusives. You should be able to find more than enough to play on either system.

On the other hand with a PS3 at least you wont be overwhelmed with massive amount of games which could be a good thing

the only thing they have to offer is a larger hard drive and you better check your ser# to verify it hasn't been on the shelf for years.....Personally i have a 60gig 360 and gave my 60gig PS3 release to my son and bought the 250gig PS3slim
