Originaly the all in one update for sacred fails badly, its best to incremently update, spykes will also be able to agree im sure lol Very Happy

I bought a cheap key some time ago for the original Sacred 2 and used the full update 2.40 to update my vanilla version and then patched to 2.43. No issues.
Haven't re-installed the game on Win7 yet though.

Yup, clean install and Sacred2-UK-INT-2_40_0_0.exe works fine here too. Maybe it's your end if you can't get it to work.

What's the HDD space required by this game again?
And did anyone tried to keep their savegames while changing from xp to win7 (or from win7 to xp) without them getting corrupted ?

Its cute (read: ridiculous) how he keeps looking to the sides like Britney Spears used to do in her old music videos to give an impression of being slightly uninterested in whoever is watching, as well as his hand gestures to give another impression of being hip and in the know about whatever he's speaking about.

For anyone who initially disliked this game, I did too but ....

I recently got the Ice & Blood expansion and decided to reinstall the whole thing. I had given up on the original, as it was just boring and tedious. I don't mind respawning but my gosh it was terrible. Not to mention, rats, champion rats, mutant rats, rats... rats... rats...

Anyway, I'm currently playing Ice and Blood which is patched to 2.43, and the game is MUCH better in terms of playability, no. of enemies, and respawning. It's reasonable now, perhaps easier.

I don't know if this occurred in an earlier patch, as I gave up long ago, or if it happened with Ice and Blood.

Also, I was a little disappointed only 1 new class in the expansion, the dragon mage, and imho, he's not that great so far, or maybe I just suck at playing him.

Your mileage may vary.

Is there any news about another big patch? Or is this as final as it gets? I might give it another go in the upcoming vacation weeks.

Ascaron got laid off before the expansion had even shipped, a small core team was left and managed to do the update for it though more could certainly be done but they're not around anymore either so this is as good as it gets as far as I know at least. Smile

Haven't had any real problems with the game after the last patch however, still has a few minor bugs but nothing serious that I've noticed.

Does anyone have problems with missing text? I have no text at all in menus. I tried compatibility mode (using Win7) and I checked if the "locale" folder corresponds with the register values like suggested on the official forum. I tried it with a clean and original Sacred 2 install btw, so it's not a crack problem.

I'd suggest uninstalling (be sure to remove options.txt manually) (also remove ANYthing left in the program files directory pertaining to sacred.

Be sure to revoke your key!!!!!!

Clean your registry of anything related to ascaron or sacred.

Move your saved characters out of the save directory (in my documents) and delete the folder.

Re-install the game from scratch.

My first install was a clean install, so that's not the problem. It was suggested to check the register values and the locale folder, both are en_UK. So that's not the problem either.

we are talking about sacred 2 here........

the fact that you did a "clean" install doesn't really matter

thus, I would reinstall

All you need to do is install the game, expansion and then that update, there's a .2 patch out but it's only for multiplayer and only has a single fix.
(There's also the "Elite" texture pack at a DVD9 size which provides most textures for the original game at twice the default resolution though from a zoomed out perspective you won't notice much of a difference.)

i think there was comparison on some german site. difference is very minimal and only when zoomed all the way in but you dont play game this way. in other words its not worth another 8gigs or whatever

I bought my copy legit and the difference is negligible at best. You have to be playing fully zoomed in to notice anything significant, and even then you don't really notice during gameplay anyway.

Definitely NOT worth the extra 9GB of space and the, often severe, performance hit.

The problem is mainly that the game has a hardcoded cache of around 300 MB or so and that "addon" exceeds this and makes the game quite unstable unless modified (Killing the cache completely, very stable but a lot of smaller stuttering instead.)

I remember installing that extra texture pack because I wanted the very best experience... but ended up with the very worst. Framerate dropped from 60fps locked to a stuttery mess of 15-25fps, sometimes peaking at 30, and constant CTDs for no reason.

I didn't know about the hardcoded cache though :\ Still, that experience was enough to convince me never to try that again.

Oh and that was on my comp with 4GB of system RAM and 1GB of video.
