Q. Why alter the movie?
A. This is such a great movie to only limit to those that can stomach over 160+
F-words. Removing the foul language allows me to enjoy the movie with my
spouse, friends and certain family members. I can play this at my normal
volume level without fear of my children hearing the language. I performed
this edit for my own personal use, but it turned out so good that I thought
others might enjoy it.
Q. So is it annoyingly muted, or poorly edited?
A. Simply put, I didn't just mute the entire audio stream, but only silenced
out the individual speaker/channel when needed. Most of the time you won't
even notice the language is gone. You will still ocasionally SEE people say
or yell the F-word, but you won't HEAR it.
Q. What about the subtitles?
A. This release also features four versions of the subtitles, defaulting with
the clean version of the forced subtitles (english). I additionally included
the unedited forced subs, the unedited full subs, and the clean full subs.
Note: this release fixes the subs that were included in the METiS & WiKi
releases, which had many problems. I manually created the forced versions.
Q. How was this edit performed (technically)?
A. 1. Downloaded METiS' 720p release & WiKi's 1080p release
2. Extracted DTS core from .MKV container to .DTS file using mkvextract
3. Transcoded .DTS file to 6 individual .WAV files, one for each track.
4. Edited each track individually using Adobe Soundbooth CS4.
Find bad word, select just before you start to hear it to just after it
is said.
Insert Silence over bad word, don't just CUT it (or you screw up
timeline & joined tracks won't match up).
Check each other channel for that instance of bad word & edit if needed.
5. Saved each file to .WAV or .AIF files - Uncompressed 48khz 24bit Mono
Note: Soundbooth's WAV export isn't compatible with SurCode for some
reason, but it's .AIF export is.
6. Encoded new DTS file using SurCode DVD-DTS.
7. Created new MKV with mkvmerge
8. Watched edited movie, find more bad words & log timestamps for needed
edits.
9. Repeated steps 4-8 several times until I got it just right...
Q. How much foul language was removed and how much was left?
A. There are over 200 total edits. I kept track of most of my edits, and my log
of F-words has over 160 instances. There was obviously more F-words in the
audio than were in the subtitles, which has 156 F-word derivitives.
There isn't really much left. I removed the offensive basics. But you can
watch this knowing that you won't hear any bad words.
