fail. anaglyph (which spykidz & other crap is) works on anything. CRT is required for less popular 3D format that uses shutter glasses (as far as i know there's only a few movies available like Ghost House 3D or something like that dating back to 90's).

I've tried a few bluray movies in 3D on my LCD ...

Coraline (Bluray I bought came with 4 pairs of glasses)
My Bloody Valentine
Polar Express
Journey to the Center of the Earth.

gives me a headache after about 20 minutes so I usually don't bother.

Well the solutions for obtaining anaglyph (red-blue) glasses are:

- check the bargain bin @ the video store for a crappy movie with glasses in the box
- go to the kids books section and look for some Dinosaurs 3D book with glasses
- google it, some companies send the glasses for free with some advertisement products

Keep in mind that some companies tweak the colors a bit so that you buy a legit copy and use their supplied glasses with each movie. So if you get red & deep blue glasses and the movie uses light blue/cyan then the 3D effect may be different and the headache more severe.

wow... that MIGHT finally make that nvidia thingy worthwhile... for gaming, fuck no... sounds like pain and little more than a gimmick... also, given my screen is 60 refresh, that'd mean the games would be running at 30fps (if i understand the system correctly), and... well... fuck that, i cant play games at 30fps.

but for movies, that'll be perfect, obviously... yeah 3d nvidia movies... sweet. really.

it actually shouldn't be that hard to make a player that would take red/green films and turn them into flicker-goggle watchable ones
the colors would be off, but still better than getting the LSD effect

u should probably read up on it a bit - 120 refresh is required for 3d - not sure about 30fps? why 30 anyway?

well my understanding was that the system rendered out each frame twice (once for each eye).. my screen does 60fps, which would mean that the game would effectively be running at 30fps.

with the flicker glasses you need a refresh rate double that of desired, as every other frame is alternating for right and left eyes
which means 120Hz -> 60Hz for each eye -> 60fps max
so 60Hz monitor -> 30Hz per eye.. which is a ridiculous eyestrain
i get a headache from just 60Hz

also, rendering performance is halved as you need to render the scene for both eyes for that one frame
