Hi all,
well, pretty much what topic says. Is 4Gb of system ram enough to justify the 64bits version of windows? With 32 I'm using 3.5Gb already, right? What do you think?

Thanks!
Fabio

if u need more ram than 3 gig get x64, simple as that, no justification needed Laughing

Frankly, there is almost nothing to not justify a 64-bit OS. Unless you have some really old or rare hardware, chances are there are already 64-bit drivers for Vista or 7, so there is really nothing to keep you away. In fact, using 64-bit versions of applications, like for instance WinRAR and Photoshop, gives you performance gains over the 32-bit counterparts. My best advice is to dual boot a 64-bit version of your OS in order to assure hardware compatibility, and then get rid of the 32-bit OS.

agree'd with everyone else. I especially dig it cause of superfetch Very Happy

64bit is snappier, the programs that actually use the extra beef like winrar etc are just that much snappier.

I'll never go back. Can't imagine this 128bit OS MS is talking about Neutral

They haven't really gotten everyone push onto 64bit yet tho I see 7 is doing a decent job of that, I dunno anyone who uses 32bit 7 cept myself on my laptop as it's only got a core duo in it ( x64 was stripped from it )

Well, I'd assume the 128-bit will initially be for HPC (high performance computing) mainly for precision purposes and algorithmic capabilities, not for the extra memory availability. Laughing

128-bit won't see any use in desktop computing for a looooooooooooooooooooong time Wink

Like everyone said f.papa, there is absolutely no reason NOT to go x64 unless you have really crappy old hardware that you HAVE to use Wink

I dunno, with enough cpu power, enough monitors and enough memory, you could run as many games on 1 desktop as you could possibly want, then make a software app that allows seperate use of gamepads and mouse/keyboarad combinations.

yes...that is my useless vision

there's still no sandboxing solution for x64 yet
that's the only thing keeping me in 32bit
tried 64bit w7 for a week and really liked it but i just can't live without a sandbox :/

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll look into W7 upgrade for my 32 bits vista, then.
