I know I'm kind of late posting this, should just go to show you how often I use my PS3.

I only own 2 games (Uncharted and Motorstorm - the latter having never made it in to my system) and about 6 blu rays. Bought in March 2008. Purchased Casino Royal in June 09, put it in and just after the trailers finished and the movie started it reverted back to the main menu. After that point it refused to read another blu ray/dvd/cd. I can still download demos and play movies from USB though.

Sony offered to help out for $150 and guaranteed their work for 90 whole days. I haven't taken them up on their offer given that I can buy new and get a whole years warranty for less than $300, and I could also purchase a Squaretrade 3 yr warranty for another $20 after coupon.

Just wondering what the experts in here would suggest doing. Is this a common issue that people can resolve easily? Or should I sell my console as is and buy a new machine? How about the $150 repair? I'd spring for that if there was some way to warranty the console for longer than 90 days...

well if the lens is dead the only thing u can do is change it, if u can purchase it separately and do the work yourself, then it will probably be cheaper and faster

Looked at a video last night on youtube on how to replace the lens. It doesn't look that difficult tbh. The part costs about £50 to buy though.
