The point is, they can ban you for simply "thinking" you did something wrong.. no point in looking for a reason there. You can ask them, and they either give one, or they dont.
Since i know nothing about the circumstances, i will not start speculating about what happened and why. I merely wanted to point out, that there seems to be no point in threatening them with a lawsuit as they pretty much have their asses covered with that section of the TOS

Makes you wonder though how long until snoopware becomes a part of copy protection schemes... Some allready don't allow YASU and Daemon Tools to run or exist on the same system as the copy protection, not a long step to take to having a EULA with "You agree that we run a complete system check on your computer to look for illegal software".
With the various laws passed in Europe recently, I wouldn't be suprised to see something like that again... last time it all got kicked out the window, but that was in the 90's.

mm I just logged onto STEAM myself to see if anything was up... And I was greeted with;
BUY CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2 FOR 59.99(US) AND PLAY IT ON STEEEEM! ( Deep Monster Truck Voice )
All Large caps big huge picture of the game. Account is in good standing. Using Skidrow Release. Perhaps some dodgy cunt flap using a stolen CC, not you per se, but the other guy you bought a gift from. That Does happen... Who knows.

That's the news update for today's EU launch of the game, everyone who has notifications enabled will get it.
(I get a lot of those things.)

It really sucks that they can suspend your account with any number of games bought on it and not even have to give you a reason.
No matter that you agreed to that EULA, I'm not too sure that it would be enforceable in court. Legally, them telling you the reason, you saying it sucks and them saying they don't care, that would be perfectly fair. But not saying the reason, that's BS right there! That's actually guaranteed by the 6th Amendment of the US Constitution

I have steam and it's open and running right now. I tried to see if skidrow worked mp and it just said I needed steam to be activate.
Nor going to try mp now...any chance you did that? You know, tried mp through steam?
If so...dumb idea.

If you live in the US take them to small claims court. You don't really need to know the law just the facts and the judge will provide the law for you. Because valve is not going to give your account back. However you could get your money back by taking them to court. You don't even need a lawyer.

Take cover, Steam is scanning the area for winrarz!
Probably has something to do with that "stolen credit card" bit... I've heard of people that have had their accounts banned because they were gifted games using dodgy credit cards.

I've had a similar experience with Valve in the past. However this was on Steam forums when steam was rather new. I made a post that was against steam (remember the concept was both new and steam was horrible back then) basically expressing my worries and discontent with the program. In it I even predicted that they would commercialize it and start selling other developers games far before ever such plans were revealed. I was 100% civil with the post and many users responded and agreed with what I had to say and voiced other concerns.
My account was banned from both the forum and from steam itself. Lets not not forget that the person who exposed and started a uproar on the pricing issue with the Euro was also banned when he did no wrong as well. While Valve makes quality games they surely do act like a dictator that cannot stand any form of criticism even constructive.
You were likely banned for your comment which somehow got to the ears of Valve. As scanning your computer beyond the normal operations of the program (in this case steam) is illegal. They wouldn't do this act. They also unlikely would have banned your account for someone gifting you a game in a improper manner. Perhaps if it was a empty account except for L4D2 but that is not the case and would have no logical reason to blame you. It is also a unlikely scenario to begin with.
So what can you do about this? Nothing at all Valve has the right to deny and pull service for you for any reason or even with out a reason at all. Consumer rights simply do not exist in these cases and you further screw you over you accept a EULA every time you install any software that makes you agree to this in a form of a contract. They use this as a nice little way of removing people they do not wish around for whatever reason while keeping the vast majority unaffected and thus simply not care. You were a sheep in a flock of millions and the wolf took you and most do not notice and few if any care.
