It is indeed a mystery. As the reviewer says, many of the things that are broken this time around, worked flawlessly in the first game. How they managed to chuff that up truly baffles me.

Im pretty sure they've recieved the final product by now, it's out in stores in just a few days, the final must have been finished for a month or so.

It would be very stupid to review a game and not telling the readers it's not the final product, they will lose credibility. He states in the preview "I can say that what I have seen so far has me excited to play the finished product."

Another game you'll have to wait for a patch or two to get the best experience it seems Sad

SecuRom v7? Is it just me, or did they skip v6?

Anyhoot, as long as it doesn't fuck up my computer like SF, I couldn't care less. I'll have a shiny new game in my hands on Friday, v7 or not Smile

I will never ever buy a game which was primarily designed for a shitty console.

Amen brother, amen. I don't care for what platform it was designed primarily, gameplay is what matters for me most. And I'm a SW fan so this game is sth that I've been waiting for since KOTOR.

Another good cross platform game i've discovered is "The Suffering". Great, Great game. The graphics werent touched up for the PC at all, but it still looks pretty good with AA/AF cranked up. The controls are nice to, and its an overall great game.

Morrowind was created for the PC and later dumbed down and ported to console. The PC Version is unaffected by this and doesn't suffer from 'console sickness'.

Thief 3: If you think this was great then you should have played Thief 1+2. Too many compromises have been made to make T3 work on the console. Sure, it has a good story and the fact that you can move freely around the city instead of playing linear missions is nice too, but almost every other aspect of the game is a step backwards from Thief 2.
This could have been so much better if it would heve been designed for PC alone.

KOTOR 1 had a great story but , just like Thief 3 suffered from compromises to the console. The graphics were sub-standard for the PC and the interface was not optimized for the mouse. Yes, it worked, but it could have been so much more confortable if they'd trashed the console interface and built a completely new one for the mouse.
Klicking on tiny arows to scroll through force powers and special attacks is certainly the worst possible way to do it with a mouse.
Why not a bar with all powers at the bottom of the screen? You'd simply click the one you want, then kilck the target. Why not hotkeys?
- Because it doesn't work on a console.

KOTOR 2 will have the same problems as KOTOR 1.
I will surely play this game because I expect it to have a great story, but only a pirated version. I would never ever considder buying it.
I'll never support a multiplatform game with my money (unless it is created primarily for PC and then dumbed down for console like morrowind).

I applaud your efforts man, and agree with that philosophy 100%. However, the market on console kiddies is so large, that publishers port n dumb down whenever possible to rake in the cash Sad

Bottom line: PC Games were undoubtedly better off before the porting landslide began, however its already done the damage, and there is no turning back.

Don't get me wrong, if console is your thing...have fun, but DO NOT FUCK WITH PC TITLES. I wouldn't mind the porting, if PC had priority of console, as its the only thing that makes sense. This simultaneous development shit.....bah. Ruined a great many title: Thief 3, Deus Ex 2 among the top ones.

Ideal Process:
1. PC Game Developed and Released -----> Game ported to console x months later with the necessary strippage in order for it to run decently and be feasable to play.

Today's Process:
1. Console Game and PC Game developed simultaneously, the PC version getting shit cut that the console version cant handle. The result, a fucked title.

or, the #1 Solution:
1. PC Game Developed and Launched PC Only
2. Console game developed and Launched Console Only.

Thats the best way. It prevents the console devs. from corrupting the minds of some of the greats the pc gaming industry has.

VIVA LA Non Portage! Very Happy

I have played Thief1 and 2 and i dont agree at all that they're better. Some of the missions really sucks and they were far to linear for my taste, but sure they were fun (period), and at that time they were groundbreaking. I enjoyed every mission of Thief3, the different themes of the missions were totaly brilliant and the AI is fun and the lockpicking is better/more engaging than T1-T2.. Better in every way if you ask me.

The question isnt if a game is better if its PC only (of course it will be better!). The question is, which will get the largest sales: a PC-only game or a multiplatform game? To develop/publish a game you must make sure that it will bring in enough money, if not, the game wont even see the light of day. The problem is we're not buying enough PC-only games I guess. Not buying games like KOTOR2 becuase it's multiplatform will just make the publisher even more confident that PC games doesnt sell enough, i dont think the message "we will not support multiplatform games!" will get through..

another solution would be to have a small keyboard and mouse for a console ? also an output for a monitor/lcd, expandable memory modules, interchangeable video card.... yeah the solution is quite simple : consoles are doomed.

Since everyone needs internet, a word processor and a printer today, i wonder why they still sell console at all? I mean dont bullshit about controls, I have 4 gamepads to play sports game, I have 1 wheel for race games, I have a pedal and yoke for flight sims, and, for the first time of my life I have the same cpu (2.4ghz) for over 2 years which still works fine (added some memory and changed video card tho...) but still, Im an hardcore gamer can someone explain me the reason why buying a console? Games on consoles sucks! Graphically at least, and I dont see what can be a better argument than graphs!

Dont want to spend money upgrading? Are you still using your nintendo 64? No hes probably hiding in your closet or something.. while i've sold my old pentium 1.5 2 years ago... While you're at it, instead of buying the new PS3, buy a p4 2.0 with an onboard video card and lower the graphics, you'll get more for your money and have same or even better results

Theres 4 places near I live here in Quebec where I can rent computer games...

OS such as windows XP are very stable and almost everyone can use it.

Piracy is a big problem for console too...

basically, a console is a computer with limitations... choice is yours now.

With the cheap price for a very decent computer today and all the use you can make out of it, i really dont see what's the point in having a console... I say it : console are going down ; its a matter of years. Everyone will benefit from it.

Via expanding the console market you are tripilling, perhaps even quadrupeling your profits.

Publishers see these as two viable options:

1. Make a GREAT title, rake in x amount of profit.
2. Make a OK title, multiplatform it, all in the same time (or less) it took to develop the GREAT title, and make 4x amount of proift of the first choice.

That's a no brainer choice right there, exactly why multiplatforming is all the rage. The publishers see those figures, and they crap themselves. Its all about the money now (as is everything).

In regards to the not buying games like KotOR2 making the publisher even less supporitive of pc, you know what? Fuck them.
I'll support a developer/publisher combo that gives PC games the respect they deserve, not whoring it all out in the name of max profit. The rest can burn in hell.
Ionstorm/Eidos took this route with Deus Ex 2, Thief 3, looks like they're not doing so hot now eh? Exactly what they deserved. Enough said.
