They weren't the police though, they were just a private investigator firm that specializes in internet investigations. So the police wasn't investigating it at all. | hired by IW

The guy got what he deserved... how can someone be so stupid to actually put that up for sale? He deserves a nice bright spot in the Hall of Stupid Fucking Idiot Wannabe Crooks.
He probably even thought it was the greatest idea since the invention of buttertoast.

it will be tricky to create a custom installer and sort out the problems with the missing files. not to say, almost impossible.

Trailer says it was supposed to be out on 11th of October, 09 ("11.10.09"). Why no leak/crack yet?

Modern Warfare 2 Shunned by Several Digital Distributors Due to Steam 'Trojan Horse' - Major digital distributors Direct2Drive, GamersGate and Impulse have refused to stock Infinity Ward's highly anticipated shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on PC due to its reliance upon Valve Software's rival distribution platform Steam. Modern Warfare 2 on PC will use Steam and Valve's Steamworks framework for DRM purposes as well auto-update, achievement and anti-cheat features, among others. Impulse will not be selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 either.
Thanks for your interest in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Direct2Drive.
At Direct2Drive, we believe strongly that when you buy a game from us, you shouldn't be forced to install and run a 3rd party software client to be able to play the game you purchased. Because COD MW 2 requires you, the consumer, to do that, we aren't able to offer the game via Direct2Drive at this time.
If you're interested in this game or future games being free of any additional software clients, please let us know by sending us an e-mail.
As a token of our appreciation, please find a code below that will allow you to receive $5 off select Activision titles on Direct2Drive.
We hope you will visit our partner, Amazon.com for your purchase of COD MW 2, and we hope you will continue to visit Direct2Drive for your digital game purchases.
Stardock's Impulse Service Refuses To Sell Modern Warfare 2, As Does Gamersgate
Nov 05, 2009 at 6:41 PM - Andrew Burnes - 32 Comments
Following our story about Direct2Drive refusing to sell Modern Warfare 2 because of forced Steam integration, I contacted Stardock to get their opinion, and to see whether their Impulse service would be selling this year's hottest title:
Impulse will not be selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 either. We share some of the same concerns as Direct2Drive over the bundling of the Steam client with the game. The most obvious issue is the forced inclusion of a competitor's store that blocks us from carrying the game.
Our issues with the game are solely with the Steamworks bundling. We enjoy a great relationship with Activision and would love to sell the title, but not with Steam.
Other digital distribution outlets have yet to reply to our request for comment, but a quick scout round shows that none are selling Modern Warfare 2 at this time.
Interestingly, this leads back to Randy Pitchford's statement about conflict of interest at Valve. On the one hand, Valve should really create a way for games to use all of Steamworks' features, DRM included, without forcing the use of Steam during installation. But on the other, this limitation funnels all digital distribution business through their service, creating a very lucrative monopoly.
Update: Gamersgate have confirmed that they're also refusing to sell Modern Warfare 2, for the exact same reasons.

What a load of crap about Steam and "trojan". Same digital distributes are happy to sell games with Securom crap, which is much more of a trojan horse than Steam. Hypocrisy hypocrisy...

+1. Piracy is supposedly about free distribution to the masses.
Once you start selling stuff you can't claim to be working under any lofty ideals and it crosses a moral line.
Anyone who gets done for flogging pirated games deserves it.
