It is indeed a last minute decision from Dildovision. If you go back some weeks before the announcement of cuts, the community manager said all is exactly the same as MW1. Suddenly everything changed. It is a clear that the decision was made (a good guess of the "possible" delay of the PC version was because they weren't sure how much work it will be to port the network infrastructure to the PC version). Their decision to do it is very clear - everything is controlled, cash for DLC, etc.

My guess is that the dude announcing the changes made a mistake. It was probably something that was not supposed to go public, and he spilled the beans by mistake. Now they are doing damage control by trying to convince gullibles that this is the best for them ("oh, yes, I played online one time and there was a cheater, so I see how this is the best ever!!!1111" and shit like that, which is complete bullshit).

You can also be right, everything is uncertain about the MP at this point.

The game still will sell like crazy though and it is a fact that this info, being true or being a stunt has just made the game hundreds of times more popular.

Many of those google searches can be for the console versions too, and also popularity does not mean it'll still sell like MW1 did and still does. This game has popularity sure, but it's negative popularity. It's popular to be negative about the game, I can't see how that is good. :/

The game as very positive reviews, everything negative being talked about it has to do with the recent announcements made by Activision.

Negative or not, it makes the game more popular and talked about online, which consequentially makes the game more searched for.

99% of the users who make a search for it won't go pass the first page on google, and what kind of results do you get on the first page?

Reviews, youtube trailers and gameplay vids, screenshots, etc.

Chances are that 99% of the casual searches for the game will just see "the good things"

And finally, what does sell the most?

Image, it's "image" that sells the most, and MW2 "image" is something out of this world.

Remember, users actively searching for negative things about the game are a minority, it may be a growing minority in the last few weeks, but still a minority, and there really isn't much negative to show about the game other than some Activision announcement which most users will not even bother to confirm it's veracity and assume it's only an internet rumor.

When all things are considered, most users who will actually purchase the game are being drawn into being more interessed in it due to all the online chatter in the last few weeks, and what they are seeing is a game with a superb gameplay, presentation and really intense action.

And that has only an effect of wanting to play this game.

Did they have that monthly search volume prior to their release, I seriously doubt it, plus, everyone has heard about those 2, even non-gamers which probably only heard about it on some TV show or whatever and search for it because they don't even know what it is.

Don't know where you've been living, perhaps under a rock, but the so called "image" has been generally negative from the PC crowd in the last few weeks. Perhaps there are some wild thorns, but on the majority it's been bad.
Perhaps you don't distinguish between console gamers drooling and PC gamers raging, and of course there are hell of a lot more bots drooling at this, for many reasons, but among PC gamers, the "image" has been very negative.

And just to make sure we're on the same page, I am talking about the high price and MP, not the SP campaign. I have little doubt the campaign will be good, in fact I believe it will be better than both MW and WaW. But for $60, I expect much much more.
