Mackey-IW: Hi I'm Mackey McCandlish, I've been at IW since day 1 and have worked on CoD1, 2, 4, and MW2. I'm primarily responsible for single player scripting and design. Some of the missions I scripted were Burnville, Stalingrad, Demolition, One Shot One Kill (Ferris Wheel!) and more.
Ryan-IW: Hello everyone I'm Ryan Lastimosa. I'm an artist at Infinity Ward and I'm responsible for weapons.
Provolown: What are the main differences between Headquarters Pro in Modern Warfare 2 and Headquarters from Call of Duty 4?
Ryan-IW: HQ Pro utilizes a timer that kicks in right when the HQ appears, allowing players to set up a strategy to take the HQ before it comes online

Mackey-IW: To mon3ymak3r4812 Mon3ymak3r4812: After you use the 25 kill streak, the game ends.

samahh: If any, what are the differences between the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of this game?
Ryan-IW: To samahh The experiences on both platforms are AWESOME! So there isn't a difference between the PS3 or 360 versions.
bnogradi28: Can you go into more depth about the third-person mode and how you will be able to use it.
Mackey-IW: 3rd person is limited to a few playlists, and it's always enabled for all players when you're in such a playlist. It's a lot of fun when you want some variety. The look is similar to spectating a game. Note that not all the attachments and perks are as useful in 3rd person.
nkrull: Is the tactical nuke an immedeate win for your team as it is shown in one video?
ModernWarfare69: Where did you get the ideas for the weapons from?
Ryan-IW: To ModernWarfare69 We get most of our ideas from real weapons being fielded right now from multiple military and other operating sources. We strive to make each weapon look and feel as they would in real life.
Ryan-IW: Yes, the tactical nuke is a win. A BIG win! Lol

xxTex: Can explain how IW.net works for the PC platform?
Mackey-IW: PC has no common provider of matchmaking like on xbox360, so to have match making on the PC we had to create IW.Net, kind of similar to the match making networks created for RTS games on PC. This was not a trivial undertaking, although it's understandable that these days consumers may take match match making for granted.
LeachKing4: what new game modes will be introduced?
Ryan-IW: To LeachKing4 In MP, a new game mode we have is Demolition. I'd have to say its one of my personal favorites as one team's objective is to detonate two targets. It gets really heavy when one target is detonated and all the focus is shifted to one target, leading to all kinds of crazy moments you'd see in only in MW2
Mackey-IW: Currently the only classic map available in MW2 is Wasteland, which is based on the popular Call of Duty 1 map, Brecourt.
Mackey-IW: Which was one of my favorite CoD maps, personally.
Mackey-IW: MW2 supports games from 1v1 in Cagematch all the way up to 9v9 in the Ground War playlist.
Josh111: PC Question... What will the max amount of players per map be for PC multiplayer on IW.net
GeneralClean: With the new IW.net, how many players can it support at one time with each server set-up, 8 vs 8, 12 vs 12, 16 vs 16, and how much bandwidth are we talking about per player basis, Upload and Download?
Vince-IW: 9v9
Mackey-IW: The max number of players on all platforms are 1v1 through 9v9. This is the number of players we focused on when we were balancing map size, perks, classes, challenges, etc.
toxicinzanity: first id like to say thank you ohh gods of IW for giving me a reason to skip school. i would like to if there will be juggernaugt?
Ryan-IW: First of all toxicinzanity, you should'nt skip school. Trust us at IW, school is really important! In response to your question, we have a deathstreak called "painkiller" that gives you a few seconds of more health. It really helps when you're getting beat down and it gives you a fighting chance.
MW2Fan: If my computer can handle COD World at War, Can it handle MW2

pittboss: will the private multiplayer matches for the pc be run as a p2p connections or are they run via the IWnet?
Deaths_head: Is there any type of character customization in the multiplayer?
Ryan-IW: Your character is specific to the class that you decide to choose.
Mackey-IW: IWNet matches players together based on several factors including ping and skill. After players are matched, the most suitable host is determined. That player hosts until they quit, at which time hosting responsibilities will normally migrate to another player without interrupting the match.
Sickology: This has probably been asked before. But what's up with the pot leafs in the Callsigns?
Ryan-IW: Callsigns allow you to customize your MP experience with images and titles that best suit your personality.
xxTex: What are the types of features that IW.net offers for PC players?
Mackey-IW: The ability to quickly and easily find a good multiplayer game. We're also able to host your rank and create-a-class online so any PC you log in with will be ready for you.
homie_wanna_liv: On the subject of single player are there any levels that are time restrictive like "No Fighting in the War Room" or "Mile High Club"? (are they as intense as the ones stated)
Laugh: Is there a console in the PC version of the game, so we can change our field of view from the xbox's default 65 FOV to 80 also can we tweaks the weapon damage for each gun, removes perks, graphical debris, breathing sway, also thru console like we where able to before or is this all gone?
Vince-IW: We would like you to play the game the way we designed and balanced it.
Ryan-IW: If you liked "No Fighting in the War Room" and "Mile High Club", you're gonna love SpecOps. "SO" is full of timed and objective based scenarios that will give you hours and hours of gameplay. You can also play SpecOps cooperatively with a buddy so both of you can hop and pop as a team!
QCskater93: Will we be able to turn off in game music? And can we mute people in the lobby in MP now?
Mackey-IW: IW games have a common slider for all volume control. For muting, we now make it easy to mute players throughout the entire game (so they stay muted in the lobby).
TheNinthAxis: If you charge for PC dlc will it be released at the same time as the consoles.
Vince-IW: We honestly haven't put much thought into DLC for any platform yet, we have been working on getting the game done
LeachKing4: How many new weapons will be introduced in campaign? anything you can say about them?
zackattack300: Is iw.net laggy? Has it been tested in the sahara on dial-up while downloading 3gig files and running antivirus with less than 200 ping? Hope so, it'll need it.
Vince-IW: We did test it in the Sahara, but we were only downloading a 1GB file...
Ryan-IW: We have a A LOT of weapons in MW2.
Ryan-IW: There are a **bleep** ton of weapons in MW2.
maniac1969: How are PC gaming clans going to uphold their clan rules in the IW-net system? Are you going to give admin rights to gaming rooms so that admins can Kick or Ban players who refuse to follow clan rules? For example, {MRoA} servers prohibit racial comments from guest and/or clan members...
Saucy: Will the DLC for PC version cost anything?
Vince-IW: No idea yet.
MW2cody: What can we expect in campaign? and IW You Guys are Awesome for Making another Game of the year!
Vince-IW: The campaign is an amazing and emotional story, I love it (who would have guessed). And thank you for the kind words.
xxTex: Will IW.net require players to pay for downloadable content, updates or just to play the game?
Vince-IW: no
bnogradi28: Will third-person be in Spec Ops or Single Player? Is there any trailers out showcasing third-person gameplay in any way?
Mackey-IW: In response to the PC clan question: Private matches are a way for players to easily play with their friends and apply whatever House Rules they want. You can not kick players from Ranked matches. If language is a problem you can easily mute players.
Ryan-IW: Third person is a gametype in MP only.
Futurefighter: Im kind of skeptical on the use of sentry guns in the MP. Can you explain them and tell us how you plan to balance them out?
ulukai: Will it be possible to use "lean" in the pc version, can we chat like in cod4 and is there any x-fire system to join friends allready playing ?
Vince-IW: Since we use steam for the PC version you have access to your Steam friends list.
MW2Fan: Total, how long is the soundtrack in MW2?
Mackey-IW: I don't know the exact minutes, but I do know that Hans Zimmer went well above and beyond the call of duty, so to speak, and really just provided an incredible amount of music. This was his first game project and he really attacked it.
liltc64: is it only snow mobile raceing or can u have more cars to race with = )?
Vince-IW: Only snowmobiles currently, but fun!
toxicinzanity: is the knifeing any diffrent in this one?
Mackey-IW: Yes, you can knife faster with the Tactical Knife (takes a long time to get though!) and you can knife a lot farther with Commando perk.
The3rdNipple: Using steam (which I have been for years) if I were to reformat my computer and redownload the game will my online profile be stored with steam? For instance, if I was level 24 and had all my classes and perks set, would they be saved online and brought back once I redownloaded?
Vince-IW: Stored on Steam!
kaRMa: Regarding the PC version, will all games be hosted by players or just private matches? And will the host have a zero ping advantage?

Ryan-IW: Sentry guns are basically miniguns on a tripod that react to enemy movement. They are a killstreak or you can get them in a care package. We're big on balancing weapons in MW2, especially in MP. Although a tactically placed sentry can be devastating, it can be destroyed by the other team if attacked correctly. It is very balanced and a welcome addition to the MP experience.
Mackey-IW: We put a lot of work into making the game tolerant of latency. In my personal experience it is not obvious which player is host. The game plays well on broadband.
Stormbringer: If a game on IW.net is hosted by a player would that player not then have an unfair advantage in terms of network latency?

Josh111: For the PC.. You guys have said people will be matched by skill.. How is this skill determined? Is it by kill to death ratio or something else?

Mackey-IW: Well none of the programmers are in the chat today.. so let's just say it's crazy programmer magic. It's a lot more than just K/D though. The important thing is not that all players in a game are the exact same skill, but that the teams are balanced.
LeetGamer_Cobra: why are there so litle recoil in the weapons in mw, and is it the same in MW2? We have done a shooting test on most of the weapons used in MW and it is like even imposibel to hit a target with not using burst fire, and that also even with the small smg. with spraying 1 mag, it was like in 20 meters only from 1 to 2 shot that did hit and that was the 1 and 2 first bullets going out, rest was fare from hitting anything. So personaly, i feel like the weapons are mutch to easy to shoot with in MW.
TheNinthAxis: Is there lean in PC multiplayer.
Vince-IW: No.
Axen: Please explain how a 9v9 match is a multiplayer experience? I'd have more fun serving lunch at a local nursing home.
Vince-IW: Sounds like are a very compassionate and giving person. I hope the people at the nursing home appreciate you.
Trac_Vantro: Is Iw.net going to help keep clans together the way we are use to playing together as clans now.
Mackey-IW: You can use friendslists in steam to play together.
TRU-Jennifer: Are you considering dedicated servers for the PC gamer in the near future?
Mackey-IW: Our main focus right now is on making sure the game will work well when it is released (on all platforms).
Ryan-IW: With balancing weapons, we strive to make sure each weapon recoils close to how it would in the real world. A good amount of us here at IW go shoot regularly and have hours of range time. The recoil we have in game is reflective to that of real steel firearms.
Porschy: Will you guys ever rethink about making a possible dedicated server patch after the initial launch? BTW I LOVE U GUYS <3
Vince-IW: We feel the PC game is great in it's current form. We put a lot of work into IWnet in an effort to make the PC experience better for our users. If there is a need for somthing more in the future we will address as needed.

rnrmusic55: you said IWnet was created to help stop piracy, what do you say about the Xbox 360 version leaked and shared on torrent sites?
Vince-IW: IWnet was designed to make the MP experience on PC easier and more balanced.

Vince-IW: We'll leave that to you to figure out, let us know when you prestige! (and I know you will!)
Stringarray: Will IW ever consider developing games on the PC to support dedicated servers, be it MW2 patches or future endeavors? Just curious if dedicated servers are on the radar anymore.
Mackey-IW: Our goal is to provide the best experience for our users, so nothing is ever "off the table". We are always evaluating our options.
zackattack300: Has the sniping been changed at all? (mechanics and such I mean) Same engine?
Ryan-IW: If you're familiar with our sniper mechanics, then you'll be familiar with MW2's. We've refined our COD4 engine for MW2.
IW_has_failedus: Why did you make the game soo much easier for noobs by putting in death streaks and pro marty/jugger. Now people can't be good at the game because they will always be killed by the noobs with triple jugger or w.e. You guys have to go back to your roots. I realize that all you guys are after is money, but come on. What about the true fans.
Vince-IW: Just do me a favor and play the game first, we put a LOT of work into balance. We are big gamers here at IW and want a great experience just as much as you.
Mackey-IW: Also in response to IW_has_failedus, death streaks don't kick in until you've died several times, so you're not going to be tearing up the leaderboard with deathstreaks. They're just a great way to get out of a cold snap.
zach426: Will you create any multiplayer playlists for competitive play? ( I.E.. no perks, killstreaks, attachments etc.)
Ryan-IW: You'll be able to customize MP gametypes through Private Match.
Freeman06: Hello, are you considering ever patching in mod tools for the pc to make custom maps and such?
Mackey-IW: Right now we're focused on launching our game.

BillEdwardz: Are we gonna be able to customize our character in system link for the 360? Such as perks or callsign. Or maybe have it save our classes from live onto system link? Just asking because on CoD4 the system link options seemed pretty limited.
Mackey-IW: System link has create a class now.
JunkyNL: I like many others, have friends from all over the world and like to play games against each other. So with this new system we wont be able to play lag free against each other? And is there still a (Offline) LAN function?(there is no internet at that location) (the 402 site doesn't answers this question)
Vince-IW: You can party up with your friends and you will be placed in a game that works well for everyone.
gdogg: On the PC version is there going to be Hardcore Free for all?
Mackey-IW: Currently there are hardcore TDM and SD playlists, however as you witnessed with CoD4:MW, the playlists may change from time to time.
GunnZero: i play on all gaming machines, if it allows me to game, im on it. But will PC have Mod tools?
Vince-IW: We haven't made any decisions regarding this yet.
folf: Could the migration of hosting make my isp�s service agreement void since I am not supposed to host servers?
Vince-IW: No, this is not a permanent server that you are hosting.
Futurefighter: How do you plan to appeal to professional pc gaming leagues like CAL and CEVO with IW.net?
Vince-IW: I guess we'll have to talk to them and see what they would need. We would love to work something out.
Themouse: Hi,and sorry if it got asked ,or answered in the first 10mins, I had trouble connecting, I only actually want to know 1 thing, will you re-introduce dedicated server support, a yes or no will do? So I can enjoy the rest of the chat, or go off and do something more useful
thajuggaloz: Is there a possiblity IW will release Dedicated Servers in a future patch? I am in a large international COD clan and IWnet/9vs9 will be impossible for us as a group to play together.
Vince-IW: We can't predict the future... yet.

sportfan91: Why isn't there a multiplayer map of the Gulag from the Single Player Trailers?
Ryan-IW: We have many things in store for MW2, but right now we have to get you guys the game you've been waiting for.
h4msandwich: Has IWnet been tested in European settings? My clan plays european leagues and we got ppl from Eastern europe, UK and Sweden meeting in the same match. How is this going to play out considering siginificant differences in Bandwith and connection qualities between players. Will host player always have the ping advantage. Can a match be hosted by 'third' person, not taking part in the match?
Mackey-IW: Players do not control who hosts.
Codmw2fann: how will the ranks work (example: 1-55 then prestige till 10th)?
Mackey-IW: Now it is 1-70 with much prestiging, with prestigious prestige rewards.
DudezTY: Since we can not kick people in ranked matches, how will we stop hackers who get past VAC?
Mackey-IW: Our goal is to ban hackers from the game.
GeneralClean: So how can you justify 9 vs 9 at the most on PC when we had 32 vs 32 in COD4?

Mackey-IW: The CoD4 maps were not balanced for 32vs32. In MW2 the entire experience is carefully balanced for a smaller range of players.
frzg: Was the decision to create IWNet for PC a profit based decision or a 'genuine improvement of the game'?
Vince-IW: To improve the game, it actually cost us money to develop it so the there isn't a profit motive.

krm2014: Will the IWNET multiplayer system compensate for the undoubtly low ping that the host computer will have for the other players, or will the host have an advantage over the other players? Also, going back to clans...Is there a way to have more than 18 people in a server, because my clan has at least 100 members and we like to get 20-30 on our servers at the same time.
Mackey-IW: Games cap out at 9v9. The software has great latency tolerance. See above!
Torinir: How does IWNet plan to address serious griefing, such as intentional teamkilling, voice/chat spamming, and other unwanted behaviours in public matchmade games? This includes organized griefing from groups like myg0t.
Sno-dog: Is there a final decision placed on any modtools that you may or may not come up with later on? Not necessarily for Multiplayer, but possibly Singleplayer or Spec Ops? Also, im sure the SP will be an awsome spectical. Sadly, im worried about the Multiplayer, how do you guys feel the multiplayer will play out?
Vince-IW: Multiplayer is incredible, you should not be worried!
Mackey-IW: You can easily mute players, and hardcore (friendly fire enabled ) SD has "ricochet" which makes you hurt yourself instead.
Stormbringer: I can see how IW.net would be good for the individual; however, would you not agree that for clans with wide geographic dispersion this could cause severe problems in terms of ping?
Vince-IW: We have not found this to be a problem.
paintballrulzzz: Will there be a boot option if someone "team kills" you like in halo3? I find it really annoying trying to play a game of hard core search and destroy with out getting team killed. can you explain the kill streaks and all the new ones?
Ryan-IW: We have customizable killstreaks in MW2. There are too many to list at this time, but my favorite is the AC130 in MP. Reign fire from above!
Mackey-IW: Seems like everybody I play with on 360 is some guy in England that got the game early, and the game was very playable even with only 2 of 4 bars.

Reeses: Are you at all surprised in the number of people that pirated MW2 on the Xbox360? Will they all be banned?
Mackey-IW: The pirates will walk the plank.
grahamrimell: Will there be any Afro American characters to play as in this game?, i felt very insulted that there wasnt any included in the Original modern warfare. This is very important for racial awarness.
Vince-IW: We have a pretty wide array of nationalities represented in our game, in single and MP. So, yes.
zach426: What was your guy's logic behind removing the lean feature for PC, a feature that was a mainstay from all of your previous call of duty titles?
Mackey-IW: The game is not balanced for lean.
homie_wanna_liv: Can you dual wield SMG's with akimbo? Or just pistols?

Mackey-IW: And shottys if I'm not mistaken.
maniac1969: Vince, there are 178,000 voices that say you need dedicated servers for the PC. COD4 is the bigest online game in history! Why in the world would you take away dedicated servers and change the whole MP experience for us? And Mackey, the PC version with dedicated servers is already the best experience the way it is!
Vince-IW: All I can say is that we changed it to make it a better and easier experience. Also, not all of the names on that list are legit.
Mackey-IW: 402 signed it 4 times I heard.
kaRMa: Please give me a direct answer. On the PC version. Are all games hosted by players, and is there a 5 second delay when host migration is in effect?
Vince-IW: yes.
TRU-Jennifer: What are the current steps being taken in regard to active blocking measures that some major ISPs have taken regarding Peer 2 Peer connections, such as what Comcast does?
Mackey-IW: Only players capable of hosting will be host.
QCskater93: I noticed in COD4 that the sound was very confusing and whilst using a turtle beach, I couldn't figure out who was where when I would hear them. I'm assuming MW2 has improved on this?
Vince-IW: I haven't heard of any issue with COD4. Let us know if you have a problem with the new game.
The3rdNipple: Midnight on Nov 10th, are you guys prepared for the mass number of people that will be logging on? Do you think this launch could go without delays? Btw, last post I never got to say great job guys.
Vince-IW: I am scared for the onslaught... We have done everything we can to prepare and we have people ready to respond, but you can't test for everything to this scale.
JunkyNL: You say the Multiplayer is going to be incredible and I want to try this new IW.net system to see, but if it doesn�t exceeds my expectation I lost 60 dollars cause it cannot trade PC games. Unless IW is going to offer a money back guarantied
Mackey-IW: When one of your friends buys it, you can ask him if it's good, and then make an educated decision.
Ryan-IW: We understand your concern for the PC version as it is a very important topic. We keep our loyalties to making good games. Fun games that people can play worldwide and on multiple platforms. We feel that most or all of your questions will be answered on November 10. We had a blast developing this game for the last two years.
Freeman06: Is IW.net going to be available for midnight release, even tho if you orderd on steam it comes out 2 days later?
Vince-IW: yes.
N2DEEP: I run lan parties for PC, how will you be able to lan without internet access and no dedicated servers as you could with cod4?
Mackey-IW: We can play at work on our lan by doing private match and there is no lag.
JD8: Several members of my clan are in other countries, If your new system doesn't consider them a good match to play with us they may feel like an outsider in our clan community. How are we supposed to keep our clan base if we don't get to choose who is a good match?
Vince-IW: Party up!
GeneralClean: Have you tested IW.net with connecting with overseas players? And if so what were the results?

ulukai: I'm in a lan party association our last lan had 400 players, can we play lan with the pc version and is the game made for lan party competition and last question could you explain why there is no collector version on pc ?
Moriarte: Will there be a multiplayer PC demo shortly after release? The PC community is largely skeptical at best right now and with no ability to trade-in or rent, this is a real gamble for our wallets.
Vince-IW: No plans for a demo currently. We are still working on finishing the PC game right now (yes, I know... we need to get done!)
Mackey-IW: As long as you can connect to steam you can play the game fine.
ETPC: How come MW2 is delayed on Steam and when does the pre-load start (16gb is a bit big )? Also, will there be a DX10/10.1/11 renderer/option?
Vince-IW: We hate the delay as well, it is not up to IW.
Apex: Will there be a way to provide genuine feedback regarding IW.Net after the game is released? Seeing as the PC subforum at your site isn't very effective.
ViperVenom: What was the inspiration behind the AC-130, Throwing knives, 3rd person and such? Did looking at some of the Cod4 Mods influence any of these?
Mackey-IW: We wil be watching and listening of course.
Ryan-IW: The inspiration behind so many inclusions to MW2's MP was basically the fun factor. We'll look at something we did in the past and say "Wouldn't it be fun if we *insert blank here*". With MW2 we had the chance to do a lot of just that. We implemented things that at first were very experimental and unbalanced, but through time and hours and weeks of testing and balancing, we came out with something amazing.

Mackey-IW: Yes, we believe MW2 is better than CoD4:MW. The reason iw.net exists is to improve the gameplay for our users.
TrastX: You guys have made it easier for PC players to hope in a random game, but you made it harder for Clans to stay together and play in a community fashion like were used to. How will we be able to play with the same people on a regular basis without having 100s of people on our friends list, is there ever a way to join the same match rooms?
Vince-IW: Yes, you can party up with people and play with them.
Saucy: Will it be possible for more players to play in Special Ops? Like instead of two, maybe also three or four players later on? It would be more fun to be able to play with more friends in my opinion.
Ryan-IW: SpecOps is currently a two player cooperative mode

Vince-IW: no, not something we think is a good idea currently
CrusaderCon: Since you guys have not made any decisions on MW2 mod tools. I suggest taking a long thought about the past games and how many great ideas and things that came from mod tools. 1. Fantastic Maps! 2. Amazing Gametypes like ZombieX, The Vietnam Mod, The Rising Mod, The Open Warfare Mod, and The Extreme Mod! 3. Great Player Skins! 4. New Modified Weapons! You may think this would be a hassle to have mods and etc. But, all you need to do is open a mod and mapping section of the IW website

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.
LaGgY_42o: What kinds of pings did you get during your IWNet testing and what do you say is an acceptable ping?
Mackey-IW: I've been playing mainly with around 100ms ping and it was great.
Axen: Why the high price tag? I understand taking money from the console players, but as an avid PC gamer, my wallet is not so giving for a game that lacks so many features.
Mackey-IW: We don't set the price.
