Sorry I am completely confused with all the different input here; could someone please explain exactly what you need to do in order to have a bootable game?

Step one, download and burn the Boot loader disc for Wave 4
Step two, download either the pre-patched version of MW2 off Torren/Usenet
Step three, if you get the un-patched version, you download the DMI, PFI and SS files and patch them using the appropriate tab in ABGX
Step four, You may also want to extract the video partition from a different wave 4 game and import that into the MW2 ISO,

I would bet by the end of today EST, there will be a full and complete rip of the Retail disc, as many people are getting early copies today. I'm sure there will be a pre-patched posted on newsgroups in the next 6 hours but the CRC from the pre-patched one is identical to the Bad rip patched with the SS, DMI and PFI files

I'm not sure about that, but if you run it through AGBX and there is no Red, then it's pre-patched. If there is red lettering saying Missing or not found, then you still need to patch the files

all i want it to play the game on my xbox360.
can i just download the game, burn it, and play?
or fo i need something else? or a specific version?

In order to make it work you have to make sure it's patched with the DMI, PFI and SS files. If you get the pre-patched ISO then all you need is either 1.61 firmware or another firmware with the Wave 4 Boot disc. If you get the crap ISO, then you manually patch then It will work with 1.61 or the boot disc.
Either way, your XBOX wont recognize it or play it without the patched files

So, long story short for this - if one has an XBOX that's only able to play Wave 2 disks (i.e. been using the Wave3 to Wave2 downgrader), we're shit out of luck?

No No, you can patch the DMI, PFI, SS files, then downgrade to wave 3 then to wave 2...Or I think there's a program that will do direct to wave 2. Sorry I didn't consider that option if you're not worried about being banned like you said. Then no boot disc is required

Yeah that's what made it Wave 4 is that they included that update on the Video partition now that was originally designed for that video that plays when you try to put an xbox game into a DVD player.

i just know i downloaded the game (CODMW2.RF.36o files).

im on 1.4 and did mine - but to be honest if you're if any way unsure about it bearing in mind all the info and details of whats been posted previously, then its much better to save your blank discs and wait a few hours for a release with the files already patched - then you can just apply the ppf patcher as normal.
(naturally this assumes you're like me and dont use live so arent bothered by a ban)
but i have to say - stunned by the game so far. graphics....wow.

for those that dont yet have the game and dont feel comfortable with manual patching of DMI SS etc there's a pre-patched one going up on the newsgroups now (have a look on the newsgroup search sites)...hour or so it should be complete.

Make sure you extract the files correct.
Maybe on a different partition of your PC.
