Gotta admit, €2.49 is a goddamn steal! Very impressive! This game just keeps getting updates too, constantly having new content added.

I'm one of the first users of this STEAMing pile of crap and I intensely hate it. Well, there goes my story: Everything was fun and games until I decided to buy non-steam exclusive games from them.
After checking out all the suppliers here in Turkey I was unable to obtain a copy of Fallout 3. I was going to order it from eBay but then I decided I can't wait enough and bought it off Steam (yes, I OCCASIONALLY buy software that truly deserves my money, I admit ). Ok so, transaction complete, added to games list, downloading....downloading...DOWNLOADING!... Grr.. the thing is downloading at 120kb/s! This is ridiculous! After some hours the speed went up to 200kb/s lol. So anyways, after a day the game finally got installed but I couldn't play it. This time I wanted to grab the DLCs also. Checked steam, they weren't there. So I went into GFL (which is just another crap) to download them one by one. For that I had to go get some thousands of Live points off eBay and they also downloaded in slow motion. After that, the game had updates so hello slow-ass steam again... And guess what, 3 months later Game Of The Year edition comes out which has all the DLC packs and costs a FRACTION of what I originally paid. And the best part is, it is available as a DVD on every store around here. F*k you Bethesda, f*k you Valve, f* you Microsoft, f*k f*k f*k....
Another big mistake was actually paying for Empire: Total War. I bought it right off the shelf, came home and launched the installation." Do you have a steam account?" WTF?! Yes? What for? Ok, some slow-ass steam install script started on... wait... oh no..oh god no.. DOWNLOADING? 2%? 135kb/s? I have the actual physical DVD on my hands and you want me to download the game from steam? Noooooooo!.....

€54.99 ($81) from Steam, $64.95 (€44.07) from D2D. That's a price hike of $17 or €10.
If you compare it to the UK version on D2D, you end up paying the equivalent of £49.23, a price hike of £10.
Steam sucks ass. They just have random good deals. Direct2Drive doesn't hike the prices just because it feels like it. Why? Because they don't have a fat, greedy, cunt for a CEO. What you pay in GBP or EUR, is the equivalent of what it costs in USD. Currencies are converted properly, according to exchange rate.

I'll sometimes buy stuff from Steam (I really shouldn't... it just encourages Gabe to fuck us harder) but only when there's a deal on. I recently managed to get the Unreal Deal for a song!

well its all good, but the download hoses my internet connection when i hit download or continue...
it must be just busy and hammering a p2p like system to me, cause i can refresh thousands of servers in steam and i still keep my browser and msn irc working,, soon as i go download the fucking game it kills my internet lol..
Ports are open/forwarded and firewall has steam client accepted etc etc... crazy shit, ill let it run when i go bed... still its never done this with anyother game ive downloaded off steam...
also tried changing connection speeds in steam client, the speeds dont change it sits downloading at 125kbs while hosing my net lol.. weird shit..

Isn't this always the case with the Steam offers? TF2 gets from $20 to $2.5, that's gotta be annoying to people who bought it a day before too. Either learn to live with it or go offline.

I think they will refund the difference in extreme cases. At least I've heard of it in passing anyway - not sure whether it's true or not.
