I read that the film is 'supposed' to be seen in Imax 3D so I'd venture to guess that the trailer doesn't look as good as it would unless you have the 3d specs.

i just dont get it. ive watched the teaser a number of times and im just not seeing the same thing the rest of you are...
theres just no way this looks shit. if you want to hate on it because its heavily using cgi, or doesnt look like YOUR definition of 'real', then fine, but its definitely not shit.
im still hyped as fuck about this movie.

Even shitty movies don't deserve to be watched on CAM

read this script review from the 90's script
http://jamescameron.blogspot.com/2007/02/avatar-scriptment-summary-review-and.html
well , the story is completely there from what i can tell , 2 characters are renamed (Josh to Jake Skully and Zuleika to Neytiri) , Michelle Rodriguez's character isnt mentioned (could be that the character isnt there or it's a small part).
script isnt an ZOMGF TEH GR8ST MOOVIE SINCE TEH LULZ , nope it's alright i guess , expected something better and R-ish tho .
bud basically it's the same of story of humans = bad , but not that graphic like District 9.
at 150+ minutes this is going to be a long one ..

im still hyped as fuck about this movie. | Well, some of the video renders do look very CGI'ish. The reason why some people do not like this movie is because it is not what Cameron fans have been waiting for - a sci fi movie like Aliens, but Avatar seems to be more targeted at kids.
And i think there is no big difference between 3d and 2d, sure 3d adds a little, but one can watch a very low quality cam movie, but still enjoy it.

to be honest i think thats just dumb (not what you said, but that way of thinking).i still think it looks amazing... like hes gone for something out-there, high fantasy type, mixed with real-world live action, so i think it'll have a grounding effect to it. either way, i dont think it looks childish or 'toonish' it all.
anyway, a proper trailer (either proper, or early release) leaked online.... did some hunting and found it, and im uploading it to rapidshare.. if anyone wants to grab it and upload it elsewhere to keep it alive, or whatever, then fine... if not, then whatever. i still think it looks fucking fantastic, and im hyped as hell for it. ill post back when the upload is done. the quality isnt great, but its still clear enough to see... plus theres actually dialog and plot info and whatever. its also flv, not that itll be a problem. in the meantime, heres some hd pics i found while looking for the trailer
Spoiler: | |
ok here it is. 10 downloads if someone could reupload then great, if not then i guess the proper trailer will be out in a couple days? i dunno. hopefully someone can keep it alive.

Avatar reminds me of the recently released Surrogates w/ Bruce Willes (humans take control of machines in the comfort of their home and let the machine do the active living for them). In Avatar, humans control creatures meant to "mingle in" with the indigenous inhabitants of a feral world which oddly have a striking resemblance to these guys in Warhammer40,000.

I honestly don't see any physical resemblance. Those look like fucking birds or something.

Thou shalt not be enthusiastic about anything in this day and age. Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

The last thing I was excited about and actually turned out to be good (or better than what I expected) was The Dark Knight (games and movies). Films like There Will Be Blood and Perfume The Story of a Murderer I knew nothing about and were a HUGE surprise. Better to be surprised once in a while than to be disappointed most of the time.

meh batmans become a disappointment to me. the game was good, but the movies were meh... yeah ok the first one wasnt bad, but the second one was quite forgettable. i dont get hyped about much anymore because im aware that most things ultimately turn out shit.. coraline was the last movie i looked forward too and i wasnt disappointed.
regardless, im a huge cameron fan, and i like the trailers.. if it turns out shit, then oh well, but nothings going to stop me being excited about this film, and look forward too it. i dunno how a james cameron film can be something NOT worth looking forward too...

If anything, Avatar reminds of Surrogates which reminds me of..
Still.. its Cameron and its sci-fi.. it has to be decent.
